There was the strangest music coming from right outside the reaper dorms come twilight time. It was pretty, but there was something slightly... different about it. The punk boil with the guitar had been waiting for a while for a certain reaper to come out and had decided that it was time to entertain himself while he waited. Although thinking logically, he probably should have chosen the common rooms--then again, he wasn't WANTING every reaper to hear this, so it was probably for the best, after all. That and the guy he was looking for was someone he actually didn't know.

She was feeling a little peckish, and while she would normally stay inside when it was getting dark due to dropping temperatures, she figured that grabbing a quick bite would not take too long; scargs come out more often when it's dark, anyway!
Slithering down the hallway, and then the stairs, she soon stopped near the entrance of the reaper dorms; she could hear music coming from outside, but what really caught her attention was the vibrations. Where most musical instruments were concerned, she would always find herself too distracted by the vibrations in the air to really listen... Which was a shame, really. People always seem to enjoy music.
She then continued on her way, out of the dorms, and past the reaper who was playing outside, only pausing briefly to politely smile - as much as snakes could - at the boil.

The music stopped. He crouched down so he was closer to the snake, his guitar disappearing. "Jackdamn you're a pretty one!" he said, having never seen a snake this big in his life.
"I'm thinkin' you're a familiar, right?" Roch wasn't apt to beat around the bush. "Otherwise you're... I dunno, like that giant fish that destroyed the floresctival, but I doubt that you'd be comin' out of the reaper dorms if that was the case."

Since there was a reaper sort of in her way, she stopped, pulling the rest of her body into coils as she hissed softly, almost bashfully, at the boil's compliment, "Why, thank you, darling! And yesss I am! If I were a minipet, I wouldn't be talking to you right now either."
She tilted her head, forked tongue flicking out curiously at him, taking in his scent; it was strangely familiar, although she couldn't quite put her finger - if she had one - on where they could have met, "My name isss Bisssskoto, it'ssss a pleasssure to meet you, darling! Do you often play musssssic here?"

"Well not here, usually," he admitted, dropping down onto his butt so he was sitting in front of her. "I got a booth in my room that's soundproof, so I usually do it there. But today I was lookin' for someone, and I don't know his name, so I figure he's got to come or go sooner or later. My name's Roch Scythe. I'm a hob grim reaper," he added.
He would have held out his hand to shake, but it was sort of a non issue when your conversation partner had no hands. "Nice to meet you, Biskoto. Hey, I haven't met many familiars, but there's this one that I jackin' LOVE. He's a kangaroo named Ben. You met him yet?"

"Roch sssseemsss like a terribly fitting name for you," She nodded sagely, hissing at the reaper as she blinked, head remaining tilted as she processed his comment, "Looking for sssssomeone? Perhapssss I could help? Doesss thissss reaper have any dissstinguisssshing featuresss?"
At the mention of a kangeroo, she hissed excitedly, head bobbing up and down as she nodded, "I have heard of him, but no, I hadn't met him yet... A friend of mine told me about him though, sssssome time back!"

"Ben is AWESOME," Roch enthused, stuck on one of his favorite familiars for a moment. "He's a good fighter, and he can jump really far, and he's got GREAT hair--he's got a mohawk sort of like mine," he said, grinning widely. "I mean, you're an awesome familiar, too, but Ben and me, we're bros. Although yeah, I haven't seen him lately, either," he admitted, frowning slightly. "Really should call the guy..."
Which, seriously, he hadn't even mentioned the reaper that owned the familiar...
"But the guy I'm lookin' for... do you know a ghoul named Amphi? Cute lil mermaid ghoul with blue and purple bangs and long black hair? This guy's reeeall close to her. Think she calls him... Thana?"

She listened with a wide-eyed expression, clearly picking up on Roch's enthusiasm and excitement, "A kangaroo with a mohawk?!" Endzela didn't tell her about that! She had assumed that the owl was referring to a regular kangaroo and not one with a mohawk, which clearly made him all the more special. She patted Roch's shoe with the end of her tail, "I'm sssure that he'ssss alright!"
When the name 'Amphi' was mentioned, she started to nod, although the name 'Thana' caused her to pause; how many mermaid ghouls with blue and purple bangs and long black hair were there in the school, and out of these, how many of them had the name 'Amphi', and knew a 'Thana'?
One.
"Hissss name is Thanatossss," She eventually snapped out of her thoughts long enough to remember that she owned the boil a reply, sounding almost sheepish as she continued, "And he issss my reaper, actually!"

"Yeah? Then you can probably answer my questions, right?" the punk said. "The two are close, right? Like... I dunno, where they could probably start dating and stuff, right?" he said. He needed some sort of answer, although... no, actually, he probably didn't, but he was going to get one.

"Closssse?" The snake frowned, tilting her head; ah, of course, Roch only knew of Amphi's point of view... Then again, there was that whole incident where he basically claimed her or something; it was all very new - and shocking - to her though, "I sssuppossssed you could call it that, darling, but dating hasss nothing to do with anything?"
She paused, worry evident in her eyes, "Did ssssomething bad happen to Amphi?" Why else would he ask such strange questions? Was he looking for someone to help the ghoul?

"Yeah," he said dryly, "she decided she wanted to be my friend," he finished. That was definitely something bad in his mind. It usually wasn't, he was good with friends! It was just... "So... uh..." a strange frown pulled at his lips. "Close but not dating type close? So like, best friends?" he asked.
Okay, now he was just curious. "I've got a best friend that's a ghoul," he added. "Do they hang out? Go to parties, have each others back in a fight, that sort of close? But not makin' out, or claiming the other as 'their ghoul' or 'their boil'? I guess I mean... is anyone possessive?" he finished.

"Amphi is a lovely ghoul," She nodded, the edges of her mouth curling up in a fond smile; she did not see making friends as a bad thing. In fact, she saw it as being a rather pleasant thing. His question caused the familiar to shake her head, hissing softly, although there was something about the way she looked that made her appear rather sheepish, "I wouldn't call them besssst friendsssss... And..."
She paused briefly, tilting her head as she looked up at the reaper with dark brown eyes, "Do you often asssssk people if they have possssesssive friendssss? It issss a rather sssspecific quesssstion to assssk... Will you be assssking all of Amphi'ssss friendssss the ssssame question?" She was genuinely curious, seeing how she had never been approached by anyone with the question before.

He tilted his head slightly, thinking about it. "Well, yeah, probably," he said after a moment. "If I thought they knew. You ever met Freya and Herryk? Me and Freya were pals when she first showed up, she likes to sing, she's the sister of a friend of mine, and she's pretty fun to hang around with. But then some... stuff happened, and when I offered to help her with somethin' Herryk--who wasn't even datin' her at the time, got all up in my face about how she was HIS. And next thing you know they're joined at the hip--and I'm the bad guy for tryin' to help her out. Then there was Kettil and Lark, and--"
He shook his head. "All around it seems to me the best thing to do in a case like that is say jack it and walk away. Make sense? I don't get WHY ghouls go for having a possessive jacker as their boilfriend, but I ain't a ghoul."

"I do know Freya! And her ssssissster too! Oh, and Kettil," She nodded at the familiar names, wondering if everyone around these parts knew each other, because that seemed to be the case with most of the people they she had ran into. However, she had no idea what Roch was trying to say until he got to the end.
"It doessss not make ssssenssse to walk away from a friend jusssst becausssse one of their friendssss are possssesssive," She frowned, looking worried, "Essspecially if you value friendsssshipsss... If ssssso, then that friend would be... Very lonely." And that saddened her to think, "Mossssst boilssss are posssessssive about their ghoulfriend, I would think! Ssssome people might even get upsssset if ssssomeone got too closssse to their crussssh..."

"Well, yeah, but I'm thinkin' your definition and my definition of friendship is a bit different," Roch said after a moment of thinking. "There's only a few months, maybe a year--probably not, though, until I graduate. School is all of three years at most, long. I've already done my first two, I'm a hob," he told her.
"Out of that short period of time I've met a LOT of people. But when I get out of here, there's only this smalllll handful of them that will look me up, or who I'll look up in return. So what's the point in gettin' dragged into dramatics when A, you barely know the ghoul, B, you're too busy tryin' not to get killed on field trips, caught by hunters, or put in detention by everybody else, and C, likely to never see them again once you've left this place behind?"
It seemed like the most cold-blooded evaluation ever, especially from a guy that seemed rather playful and friendly, but his eyes were straightforward and met hers straight on, saying he believed every word of it.
