Life had thus far been pretty peaceful. There was the occasional rogue predator trying to sneak their way into the land, but it was nothing a group of large, capable guards couldn’t handle. it was also a duty that Lika enjoyed quite a lot. She had started to get a bit of a reputation for her antics, which many would consider dangerous. She couldn’t help it, she just didn’t see the things she did as wrong. Lika couldn’t help but tease and taunt, though it was not usually intentional. However her quick hooves had so far kept the claws away from her hide. This time however was different. She was out of the lands, though it was still within view in the distance, and had company. “Hurry up. It’s going to take us all day to find those stragglers at this rate!”

Said company could quite possibly be considered more of a babysitter. Lehtia didn’t quite trust Lika’s brash nature, and was sure that one day it would be the younger females downfall. One day Lika’s dumb luck and quick hooves would fail her, though it was certainly not something she hoped would happen, but it was something she could not help but consider.

The black female sighed at her younger companion’s words. “Relax. I am sure they have not gone too far, not on their own.” They were in search for a pair of healers who had fallen behind a groups, one that had already returned, who had been looking for new herb roots to bring back. It had not been too long though, so Lehtia was sure the pair were just somewhere close by, perhaps having found some interesting plant or something.

"Come on Deimos! We gotta get back to Ares as quickly as possible!" She had spent so much time trying to find the other snake and so much of that time was spent staring at a track that had ended up being him that Phobos had paid no or little attention to her surroundings. It was definitely going to be a pain getting home. Home was relative though. They didn't really have a home and hopefully Ares hadn't moved on without them.

Deimos grumbled as he followed after the white snake. "Coming, coming." He was still in the process of warming his body back up from a chilling night, but a night well spent regardless. Maybe it was a stupid idea to have traveled so far without knowing where he was going. Though that was the point of leaving right? Going somewhere he had never been before not caring to know that way back. "I'm sure we'll find our way back and I'm sure Ares wouldn't have just left us, not without looking for us at least." Though two snakes in the tall grass would definitely be a challenge for the lioness to try and locate.

Lika nodded. “Hopefully they are in one piece though.” She said it not out of pessimism, but simply because it was the first thought that came to her mind. She thought nothing of the statement. Lika quickened her pace as they came to a small patch of ground that appeared to be dug it. Thre were hoof prints around it, a sure sign that the group had at least been here before. “He seem to be on the right track at least.” She hopped over the hole, trotting quickly in the direction the tracks led.

Lehtia paused momentarily at Lika’s comment. Another soft sigh escaped her as she started moving again. “I certainly hope we find them in one piece, and alive at that.” She called ahead. Lika had moved further away from her, and a good bit of distance was starting to form. Tracks were found, as well as signs the healers and at least been here. That was a good sign at least. “Wait up, not so fast!” She cried, leaping over the hole. In her haste she nearly did not notice the pair of snake on the ground, and at the last minute she managed to shift her footing, hooves missing the snakes before she continued her momentum forward, both startled and relieved to have missed them.

The pair stared horrified as charging bodies ran headlong towards the two snakes that were frozen from fear. Deimos reacted how most of them kind would have: in a hissing fit that lasted all of a few seconds as the waterbuck moved her body to miss the pair. Phobos on the otherhand saw this event as a good sign. There was life, that meant Ares might be around.

"Hey! Hey you!" The white snake called out towards the pair. "Wait, can you help us?" It was a longshot asking a prey beast to help a pair of venomous snakes, but it was a chance she was willing to take. The two larger beasts had the ability to already trample them, so all in all, they were not threats to one another.

Deimos on the otherhand was dumbfounded by his female counterpart was asking a waterbuck for aid. Of all the things to ask for help from, a prey beast? For all they knew, Ares had killed it's mother, brother, father or even cousin. "Phobos, quit it. It's no use. They have no reason to help us. Come on. Lets keep going. We've got to find Ares before she leaves without us."

Lika was first to turn, curious about the pair of snakes. She had never really conversed with snakes before, so it was something quite new. However she was also the braver of the two, mostly for the fact she had not found reason to fear certain things. So she trotted closer, staring curiously down at the snakes. “Hi there!” He spoke, glancing between the black and white snakes. “You need help with something?”

Lehtia on the other hand was more wary. She knew snakes could be dangerous, even if they were much smaller than the waterbucks. Who knew just how poisonous these two were. Maybe this was some sort of a trap, though she had never known of snakes to attempt to strike a conversation to attack a waterbuck. In fact she had never really heard of snakes attacking waterbucks, simply that they could be a danger. She trotted more slowly up behind Lika, glancing around the brown female at the pair. “Maybe you shouldn’t get so close.” She whispered, ears flicking back and forth nervously. They could be dangerous, sure, but she was genuinely curious as to what they might want, assuming this wasn’t some strange trap.

Deimos opened his mouth, about to start speaking when Phobos chimed in instead. "We're looking for a lioness. She's red in color with black tribal markings on her back. She has a tribal-esque sun marking around her neck as well, goes by Ares. We got separated from her and we can't find her anywhere." Though truthfully they hadn't been looking for more then a day at most.

The black serpent looked over to his companion with a glare. She had cut him off! How rude. "Hmph." Deimos' attention turned back to the waterbucks. "She's about your size. Her claws are always out. Maybe someone in your herd has seen here?" That was assuming the pair were part of a herd at least. Though what waterbuck wasn't in a herd? That'd be just weird if they weren't.

“A red lioness.” Lika repeated, looking up towards the sky as she searched her memories for anyone who may have fit their description. She didn’t recall seeing a lioness recently, at least not one that looked as the lioness they were searching for did. "I don't think so." She started, before her ears perked forward as she remembered. "I think I heard a bird before we left mentioning a lioness around here. It may be the one you are looking for, though I can't be sure. I didn't catch a description from them before Lehtia and I departed. We were in a hurry, and it didn't seem important at the time."

Lehtia’s ears perked forward. How curious, a pair of snakes looking for a lioness? It even sounded as if they might have been travelling with her. This was certainly new for her. Then her curiosity changed to wariness. A lioness. If they were looking for her here then she may have been nearby. Instinctively Lehtia raised her head up high, ears swiveling back and forth as she listened, and green eyes searched the area around them. She forced her gaze back to Lika for but a moment, glaring slightly. "You heard of a lion nearby and didn't think that was important information?" She huffed. Of course Lika didn't think it important, there was only a large predator roaming about with them separated form the herd. Nothing to worry about at all!

The pair looked between themselves and then back to the prey beasts. They were obviously worrying, well the black one was anyways, probably because their mistress hunted their kind, though over the time they had known her, not once had she hunted their kind. Deimos decided it was wise to bring it up to ease the minds of the two, "Our mistress does not hunt your kind. She prefers the taste of gazelle and zebra and is very particular about what she eats. You have little to fear from her if the lion you speak of is indeed her."

Phobos nodded in agreed though, looking over the two. If the lioness was her, they needed to get going if they wanted to have any hope of finding her before Ares moved on and looked elsewhere for the pair. "Thank you for the information though. If you see the bird again, be sure to thank him for us."

Lika nodded at the snakes. “Good luck finding your lioness!” She said, smiling broadly. She was always glad to help someone, and was even excited to go tell some of the young ones she had just talked to a pair of snakes. “I will be sure to tell the bird.”

“Yes, good finding this lioness.” Lehtia said, though a bit more flatly. She just hoped it was the snakes that found the lioness, and not them. While they said she didn’t hunt her kind it did not ease her worry much. “We must be going now.” She said to the snakes, before turning her attention to Lika. “Come now, we still have to find those healers. Not wanting to be rude she looked back at the snakes. “Farewell.” She spoke before turning to continue following the hoof tracks they had found.

“Oh, right!” Lika said, having nearly forgotten why they were even out here. “Bye!” She called to the snakes as she turned to bound after Lehtia.

"Farewell." Phobos nodded her thanks before putting herself back onto the ground, fully on her belly as she began her movement again, continuing on her trail, hoping to find Ares along the way back to where they had started at with this whole mess.

Deimos on the otherhand was much more enthusiastic about her goodbyes as he hurried after his companion. "Bye!" He called back, waving the tip of his tail with his lack of anything else to really wave before turning back and filling the gap between him and Phobos. They would find her, even if it took weeks. The pair had never really given up before and they weren't going to start now.
