There was one member of Famine so far who Lan had met and had left a rather good impression on. The one at the woods who’s been so kind as to intoduce himself and was just a rather pleasant individual. Salbei was it? Yes. She had no real reason to seek him out, but she’d been kind, and Lan was sorely lacking in companionship. Oh she did her tasks and helped where she was needed, but once her roll was filled what was left to do? Sit like a pampered princess? Well technically she could, but sooner or later she started to feel guilty about that. It was rather hard to enjoy doing nothing when everyone else was doing everything and she could watch them do it. So she would at the very least spend her free time, (as little as it was), with company. She was admittedly, curious how famine was doing. They were one of, if not the most, resourceful of the four clans. Surely this was not so much a time of hardship? Aside from the emotional burden at least. Arriving at the famine area was… confusing to say the least and very quickly, she found herself wondering if she had just gotten herself lost in another clan’s area.

On any given day Salbei would be seen out and about, helping his clans members find this or the other thing, perhaps even sitting down and listening to woes. On the rare occasion he could be spotted (by someone other than his life long friend, who knew him too well) taking a well deserved nap in a high, sunlight place. Yet as the Noble from Conquest entered and subsequently got lost in the current Famine area, the Sage was doing none of those things. Today, specifically those last few hours, were part of the even rarer-than-naps occurance where Salbei was doing something obviously for himself.
Today he sat alone with his back to some dirty moss-covered rocks, his legs folded in front of him with some strange pieces of wood and string rested on his lap. It looked like it used to be an instrument that had seen much better days, and more importantly it looked like he was trying to fix it. His efforts were so far in vain, and as he took a break he spotted something...a little too colourful to belong properly in his precious Famine. A little too colourful, and a little too regal.
Hm.
His first thought was one of the Nobles he had met in the Woods, the one who had first started using her pets to do the work she should have been doing with her own hands. She had been nice enough and had gone out of her way to compliment him, and thus endeared herself to him; if this truly was Lan, what was she doing here, of all places?
Well, he just had to find out! His project was set aside and he got to his boney feet, his various little trinkets clinking together softly as he moved closer. "I spy a lost little filly~" He teased quietly as he approached her, his red eyes narrowing in a pleased smile. "Doing a little sight seeing, my dear?"

If she was still a filly, the voice of the older male would have sent her hiding behind her mother's skirts. Thankfully, she was in her own mind a grown mare who could take care of herself! Somewhat. She was still getting a hang of the whole 'last member of a dying race' deal. Still, the voice mildl;y startled her and she spin around, the tassels of her headdress fluttering around her for a moment. "Ah, yes and no. I was looking a bit for you in a way I'll admit but also-" her gaze went over to what was a rather well built den dug halfway into the earth, "-I was curious to see how those of famine were doing in comparison to my own clan. I am afraid while I am knowledgeable of my own people I am not as... familiar with the others." Her shoulders slumped just slightly. "It was not my place to know such things."

Sal's head canted to one side as she spun around to face him, looking as pleasant as ever; well, as pleasant as a heavily robed, bloody and emaciated Horseman could be. When she stated her intentions however, his pale brows raised in surprise, happily narrowed eyes widened just a little more. "Me?" He repeated, briefly pointing at himself. "Whatever would you do that for?" This time he couldn't help but tease, but at least it was out of joy; nobody had actively sought him out since they lost their homes. Busy was busy and he understood, but it was still somewhat sad. The rest of her intentions were laid out to him, and instead of looking at his surroundings and comment on how there was very little to see, he merely continued to keep eye contact where he could and smiled the whole way through.
A Noble taking intiative? Now that was rare. Salbei was actually surprised to hear her be so honest about it, but there was no point in hiding how proud he was. The Conquest Nobles tended to confuse him, but it was merely a conflict of cultures; they were lazy and wasteful, and Famine was the complete opposite.
"Ah, I see~ Better late than never, I suppose." Sal mused out loud, taking a few small steps to close the distance between them. "Regardless, I applaud your intiative~" He actually did; he was quite proud of her! "Would you like a tour, then? Or perhaps a little chat? I would offer to play you the music of my people-" The Horseman chuckled despite his pretty lame joke. "-but unfortunately my instrument is ah, smashed, to put it lightly." There was an unmistakable sigh at this; his fingers were just itching to pluck some strings, but like many things lately that was being denied to him, he could not.
"Whatever you would like to do, sweetling -" Sal turned just the slightest bit, offering out a pale, tattooed arm. "- all you have to do is ask~"

Blood had long stopped bothering Lan. Humans had so much of it and when you were tasked with a lair and harvesting well... You got over it rather quickly. If it was going to upset her, it would have to be her own. Probably staining a dress too. Sal's appearance didn't bother her where as a member of conquest wearing commoner's clothing? Now THAT was something to be shocked and bothered about. "Better late- Oh do give me some credit. My role was to harvest fear, oversee others and one day be a good wife. This whole.. change is a bit hard to process still. Roles have simply changed and we're all trying to...fit into what we ere and now, what we must become. It's difficult when you were used to having others work for you, not along side you. It's been an eye opener to say the least." She knew how to fight, how to harvest fear, how to craft, she knew, yet she was not a master. Her role had been to lead and to simply BE. Now it was to DO. Lan was still adjusting. The arm was looked at and tenitive, she placed her hand on the horseman's skin. "A tour would be nice and... if it's any consolation, if your instrument was of the more well known variety, their might be an artisan who could repair it. They often work fixing what was broken in transition. If we can preserve what we have it will be a start will it not?" She blushed at being called sweetling. "Please, lead."

Salbei stayed quiet as she gave him a what-for, listening attentively and even appearing like she had his full attention. He was fond of letting people talk after all, even if it was an attempt to put him and his thoughtless remarks in their place. When she was done he was still smiling, though there was a hint of amusement in everything he did.
"You are right of course, our worlds and roles were much different in the...past." The word hurt to use, but it seemed important to him to use these words since they were quite true. "I do apologize sweet Lan, but there were no worlds more different than ours." He always had a hard time understanding Conquest; there had been several occasions where he went to visit and just...had to leave shortly after. They were too different, polar opposites in nearly everything but their core goals. "I am still pleased you are reaching out now, sometimes it is easy to slip back into old ways." At least with Famine, it wasn't that hard to slip back into old habits, especially since it was to work.
"That would be very helpful, thank you! I've been trying to fix it on my own, but seeing an artisan may be more beneficial..." If he couldn't put it together he was going to visit Conquest anyway for that very reason; plus he wanted to see if some of his old contacts had survived or not. Salbei's free hand moved to rest on top of Lan's as she placed it on his arm, keeping it there as he started to lead her towards the 'hub' of the Famine.
"As you can see, like everyone else, we are rebuilding as best as we can." He started, almost like a tour guide; but since there was nothing really impressive to point out just yet, he instead turned his red eyes down to view her thoughtfully. "If I may ask...did some lucky Stallion make you his bride?" It was an odd way to phrase the question for sure, but he couldn't help it, it was just more fun for him to say it that way.

Age allowed ignorance, but only for so long. Lan was an 'adult' by some measure, and ignorance was not tolerated. Not by her at least. The hardest standards to meet were often your own, and the saying was true for her. She'd calmed down a bit from her ramblings, and the memory of their land lost drew a sad smile to her face. "Our world is lost but we will have it again. Famine will choke the life of our enemies, War fight and annihilate their forces, Conquest to have their surrender, and Death will end their insignificant lives. this is just temporary. It will not last forever after all. We are the Four Clans, Lost or not, we will not be as such forever." She might be dead before she saw her homeland again, but he refused to think that they had been beaten so deeply. The Famine camp was in someways, much like Conquest, in the midst of building and generally improving the living conditions. "There are quite a few artisans still about, so it shouldn't be hard to find one. I could look at it even, though it is not my specialty." She might be able to help him a little bit. It couldn't hurt at least. As they walked however, she paused briefly at the mention of a stallion and being a bride. "I..No. He was lost to us along with the land." Shaking her head Lan tried to dismiss it. "But, he would not want me to weep so long for him. To linger in the past prevents movement into the future after all."

"You have a lovely way with words, my Lady. I have goosebumps~" Salbei was serious, but in the goosebumps tone he was coming up a little short; he could feel the chill, but it didn't reach his dry flesh.
"Perhaps after the tour? I would appreciate you taking a look at it; I have done all I can so far. The more the merrier, they say!" Though he did suppose they didn't mean fixing things, generally, you wanted as few people as possible vying for the work. In his little world, even the most mundane tasks should be shared with people, and the fixing of objects should be a group effort; perhaps that was the hive of his upbringing speaking, though.
"My sincere condolences." There was a distinct seriousness to his voice that spoke volumes; they all lost someone, some more than others of course. Loss was their life, now. The Horseman peered down, giving the hand on his arm a gentle squeeze as though trying to be reassuring. "True, but never forget him, or anyone else you may have lost. They are in part responsible for the remarkable young woman you are now~" Salbei was no real judge of age, but he knew he was getting up there himself; Lan looked younger than himself, so he merely assumed.
"Well now, this is our central hub of sorts~" He introduced her to something that looked...pretty damn unremarkable, but it was clearly the milling centre of the new Famine. Salbei came to a sudden pause, leaning down enough to come to her eye level, able to point at a barren piece of land nearby. "And that land, over there? I have my eye on it, I wish to build there." This time pride caught on his voice as he gestured to an empty plot of land, the only distinguishing features being, well, large rocks.

She chuckled at his compliment. "Well, I am a descendant of our late-late emperor, so it should be no surprise I have a talent for orating." Lan really did think it to be true. She was of high birth, thus she was just born with her skills. With the nod that she might help him with his instrument, she took in the sight of the Famine camp. The whole communal thing was utterly foreign to her, and when he bent down to her she smiled. "Will you build a house? Or a workshop?" She was guessing workshop from the whole way Famine seemed to live. Community and all that compared to the machine like workings of Conquest. While the thoughts of her now dead fiance came and went she brushed them to the back. It was not proper to publicly mourn. To show weakness with tears and sadness.
