The sight of war was never pretty. At least that was Lan’s thought. Occasionally a rather well mannered or behaved individual would crop up but otherwise? War was war, and it was brutal and savage. Conquest was decisive. The pair just… she was not fond of them really. Conquest and War simply did not mesh. They could harvest FEAR, they could bring the humans to their rightful places but working as one?

Perish such thoughts, they had no place in Lan’s view.
Still, she envied them.

They could see the work from a different view, and they had things she had not even touched. Not to mention, they did things that with reluctance, Lan would admit to herself she was curious about. Their way of showing off, their battle prowess. Her love once joked if he had been built like one of the men of war, he would have never needed to court her. But now her love was dead, and the joke was a painful mockery of that loss. Still, sitting under an elm, she wondered what it must be like to live so freely. To like without strict traditions and daily routines hammered into since birth. Oh she was sure they had their training and gripes but…
One couldn’t help but wonder.

Generally, Jay didn’t like conquest very much. She could certainly admire their emphasis on honor and tradition, but sometimes they took it a smidge too far, or maybe she couldn’t understand their ways as a whole. They conducted themselves in a polite manner, perhaps too polite. They had strict routines and protocols that only confusingly swirled in her brain. They valued hard work and perseverance, but they also valued blood heritage, which baffled the horsewoman. She didn’t understand horsemen from conquest, but it wouldn’t stop her from working with them when the need arose.

While Lan found herself under the elm, Jay seated herself in the elm. She nestled herself in an array of branches high up in the tree. Jay held out a hand to stare at the leaf patterns splayed across her skin. Her head lolled to the side, she sighed softly and leaned back against the tree trunk. What to do now? Jay leaned over to see if someone was beneath, and indeed there was. She hummed curiously and softly fell to a lower branch. The clothes were long, flowing, and colorful. Perhaps the horseman hailed from conquest.

Smiling, she dropped to the lowest branch and swung from it. “Hi!”

Lan tried to be polite as possible at all times, but, sometimes it was just impossible. You could only put up with some things so much before you snapped. Thankfully, that was not what was going through her head as the war horsewoman came into view. While started, bringing her hand up to strike it was lower with a sigh.
"My apologies, you started me."

Looking at the war horsewoman, she smiled at her wings are the various feathers adorning her. She was pretty, if in that rugged war sense of fashion. "Do you drop in on other often or am I just one of the lucky few?" A small bow. "I am Lan of Conquest." She was a member of the conquest Clan, she always would be.

The raised hand did not escape Jay, but lowering it only made the curious horsewoman of war smile at Lan. “That was the point.” She giggled as she hung upside down. It was beginning to get a bit dizzy, but it was nothing Jay couldn’t handle. She toughed it out like a war horseman would.

“I don’t know. Do I? I don’t keep track of these things.” That was probably code for “Yeah, you’re one of the lucky few!” She smiled, slowly swaying back and forth as she hung from the branch. “Jay from War!” Casually, she reached out to try and grasp the ornaments in Lan’s hair. “Hey, you’ve got pretty things in your hair, can I look at it?”

Why would you even do that? Baffled, Lan fought to not let it show on her face, the smallest hint in the way her lip twitched. There was no point in scaring someone who couldn't generate FEAR after all. Calming down Lan looked to how the horsewoman was positioned, sighing. Was this some think of thing she'd have to be wary about now?

"No, we have not met. Otherwise there would have been no point in introducing myself." Ducking she tried to keep her headress from the girl's hands. "If you don't mind, I'd like to keep it on?" Another duck.
"And it's a headdress. You can look perfectly fine from where you are, no touching needed."

Why would she do that? Why, that was an easy question. Because it was funfunfunFUNFUN. The expression on Lan’s face didn’t change much, which was pretty boring in Jay’s opinion. Oh, but she sighed. Maybe Lan was one of those uptight horsemen. She rubbed her chin thoughtfully. “Oh, well, I suppose that’s true. Okay then.”

She dropped from the tree and landed softly. Her attempts to reach for the headdress refused to cease until Lan’s request fully registered in Jay’s brain, which took another few moments. “Oh. Okay. But it’s pretty! Pretty things should be touched. Besides.” She wiggled her fingers. “I am a touchy person. I learn things by doing and touching things.”

Then something dawned to her and she clapped her hands together. “Wait! You’re from Conquest. You can tell me Conquest things!” She smiled.

The horsewoman was strange, but so far, all the horsemen she'd met from War were either odd, or, assholes. She's take slightly nuts over a*****e though, it was much.. easier in some ways. Plus the girl was not trying to steal so much as touch. She was also not trying to fight, thank the lords. Lan was very tired of that aspect of War.

Leaning back from the horsewoman's hands, Lan was still not about to just give up he headdress. "Pretty yes, thank you. But because it is pretty it needs to be touched? I think not. You don't need to touch it." Jay's sudden enthusiasm for her being a conquest horsewoman didn't go unnoticed. Bow a bit, (mindful to keep the headdress out of reach), Lan replied. "Yes, I can teach you some things, depending on what you'd like to know."

Oh, Jay wouldn’t go so far as to steal (usually). She knew the woes of having one’s possessions potentially pilfered. It was one of the few things she absolutely could not stand. Her things were hers and she was not going to allow people to take them unless she said so! But touching was okay (sort of). Jay loved to fight, but luckily she loved to play more. However, if Lan ever wanted a spar, Jay certainly wouldn’t say no!

She leaned back a bit at the refusals. The bottom of her lip jutted out just a bit before she sighed and relented. “Okay.” There was a tiny “oooh” when the other horsewoman did a tiny bow. How very Conquest-like! “Why do you bow so much? Why are all of your clothes so fancy fancy? Does it make fighting hard? How do you guys fight? What kind of stuff do you make? What’s your job?” How lucky of Lan that Jay hadn’t run her words together this time.

If Jay had chosen to steal, she'd have a very pissed off pony on her hands. The fact that Jay was backing down from the whole steal all the things was nice, it was letting Lan relax a little more. She didn't try for the headdress, Lan and Jay would be on good terms.

Maybe.

At least until the questions started flowing like water. "Ahh... its' to show mutual respect, who has a higher authority and rank than you. The small bow I did was to show that I will treat you with respect.' For now, she added mentally. "My clothes are traditional for a noblewoman, and no, with proper training, it is not hard to fight in them at all. We fight with bows and spears, and in strategies." God this filly had far to many questions.

"What we make would be better asked to our artisans and my job is whatever it needs be." She sighed. "Any other questions?"

Jay crossed her legs and scooted back until she could feel her back pressed against the tree. She leaned forward a bit while she twisted her neck to look at Lan while the conquest horsewoman diligently answered her questions.

She cocked her head, the flowers on her head dangling while Jay digested every word Lan said. Respect. The conquest clan seemed to place a particular emphasis on this respect business, but respect was good! “Are you sure?” The warrior didn’t look too convinced at Lan’s reassurance. She reached out to loosely pick up one of her sleeves before dropping it. “It looks like you’d trip on them a lot.” Jay grinned as she recalled a certain conquest horseman who had tripped on his way-too-long sleeves all over in the forest. She hummed thoughtfully. “I see.” She nodded her head. Bows and spears were good, though she definitely preferred her bladed weapons. Strategies she could also understand. War was not mindless (not always, at least).

“I see I see~” she repeated as she rocked her head back and forth. “Do you know any artisans I can ask then? Oh! And you said you’re a noblewoman, right? What do noble people do?”

Lan giggled at that. "Its simply is a thing that takes practice. Like wielding a weapon, we ladies train in how to carry ourselves. tripping would be.. shameful to say the least." Lifting a sleeve she wrapped it once, twice, around her arm. "A simple thing, we can also hold them up from the inside, small tricks you learn."

At the question of artisans she nodded. "I know of Lifen, and I believe there are a few others. As we nobles... politics mostly. Deciding when to move, where, how, and the best way to gather our FEAR. We set the plans, herd our people. We dabble in other things, but mostly, we are the rules. That is what we are born to do."

What she was quite sure she'd been born to do at least.

“What about the ah, ah…gentlemen?” Jay crossed her arms, a hand cupping her chin as she processed the new information. “If not tripping takes practice then I think I can think of a Conquest horseman that needs lots of practice.” Maybe she would poke Zhi about it the next time she saw him (assuming she remembered). Eyes widened and she leaned forward to garner a closer view of Lan’s sleeves, her hands pressed against the grass. “Tricks! I see. Yes, yes tricks are very useful.”

“Lifen?” The name received little reaction from the warrior. Jay didn’t know a “Lifen.” She made a look of disgust at the word “politics.” Unsurprisingly, the horsewoman was inclined to shy away from politics and skilled word play. She just wanted to hit things, okay. The warrior was ready to flop onto the ground as Lan continued to list the various duties of a nobleperson. “Sounds boring,” she stated curtly before rolling around on the grass. Dying of boredom? Maybe. “But thank you for the answers. Answers are good and useful. Very useful.”

Gentlemen? If she meant Mengyao... "The males should be as the females. Refined, trained. I am not sure if you mean specifics, but then, I was not taught their way. They still shouldn't be tripping over themselves, they bring dishonor on their houses by doing such." She hoped it was Mengyao who tripped. That would be perfect.

The war horsewoman's antics got a smile. "Politics are what we are born to do. Not all can be skilled in it. Some are better suited for battle. I am better suited for banter." She hardly found it to be boring. "It is no problem to provide answers. That is part of the role I play. The questions and grievances brought to me I must answer to."

Dishonor on the famiry!!! Jay had never known this until now. “WhatbutbutbutZh—my friend totally trippedeventhoughIknowhe’sinConquestbutactuallyIlikehimthisway I MUST KNOW WHY HE TRIPPED.” It was suddenly apparent to the warrior that there was now another reason for Zhi’s tripping other than his ridiculously-long sleeves.

She began to nod impatiently as Lan continued. “Okay! Thank you for the answersIreallylikeanswers but now I must know why my friend tripped,” she stated with wide eyes. “So I shall be going now. Yes? Yes. Yes!”

Lan chuckled. Zhi then? She’d told him about his sleeves but, apparently, it could not be helped. “Good luck Jay, may fortune smile upon you.” The noble just hoped she might calm down. Jay calm seemed a bit.. impossible thus far however. Lan would just do well to hope.
