Calder was picking vegetables, and had a small basket by his side as he moved through the woods, picking up a few mushrooms on his way away from his private garden. He had almost forgotten about it in lieu of recent events, and had only remembered when he was had a terrible hankering for carrots. To think he could forget, and luckily no critters had come by to eat this stash. Happily holding a basket of assorted vegetables (though mainly all carrots), he pushed through the brush.
It was then that he heard a rustle and paused, paranoid and worried. It couldn't be - no. Not hunters. He always worried, and being here alone without telling anyone where he was only made him panic.
Still, he was compelled to speak. "Hello?"

Senga hadn't ridden in awhile.
The elk was familiar to him, a manifestation of his own Fear, and it had been awhile since he'd used the mount for anything; in fact, it was most likely the first time he'd summoned it outside of the War Isle. The woods were quiet, barren of any brethren that might have been around on any other day. The pounding of hooves stirred up leaves and undergrowth, and Senga bent forward, avoiding low hanging branches and shrubbery that might have caught on his pelt. The skulls strewn threw the elk's antlers rattled together, the only sound apart from the steady beat of hooves that gave away his presence. He was slowly attuning himself to the sounds of the forest itself, but when the sounds of something living echoed out, Senga blinked and pulled the elk to a walk, guiding his mount forward through the forest towards the sound.
"Hello?"
Why was that such a common greeting?
Senga frowned, wings fluttering in contemplation. He pressed the elk to move closer until he found the source of the noise; a student, by the looks of it. At least I hope so, Senga thought, eyes hooded beneath the white pelt. "Hello." He echoed, the word hollow in his throat. He wasn't used to greetings with words, even though it seemed to be the favored approach for most other Clans and students as well. How... strange. Senga tilted his head to the side, eyeing Calder curiously.
"Who are you?"

Kupuritama No problems! No rushing. No stressing. RL comes first after all. OuO Calder froze when he saw - a very big deer? He turned his head, as it was strangley decorated, but then he saw it had a rider. One that, by the looks of it, was somewhat canine in nature. His ears went back naturally, never liking the smell of wolf, but tired not to place any bias on the boil.
A boil riding a deer.
"My name is Calder. I'm a student."
He looked at the deer again.
"Are you....." He'd already met a few. "...a horsemen?"

Senga peered down at the... horse student thing in mild bemusement, hot gold eyes hooded beneath the shadows his hood cast. It was strange to come across one of these in the forest -- or maybe not so strange at all, considering he'd probably traveled further towards the school than he'd intended to. Giving a gentle tug at the reins, Senga guided his mount closer, the skulls rattling together as he circled Calder, taking in the odd sight.
"Oh."
Senga blinked at the words, ever so eloquent in his ability with words.
Or absolutely terrible, either way.
"Senga." He tilted his head, sliding a hand absently over the fur of the elk. "Why are you out here?"
His wings fluffed at the question, curling closer to his figure. The tawny wings stood out against the dark color of the elk's hide. "Yes - I am - ah - " Was he supposed to say formerly? Did these students believe the horsemen had all unified themselves under that title - the lost clan? "from War. Do you know other horsemen already?"
The little wolf bent forward, pressing his fingers against the fur of the elk to closer examine Calder. He wasn't intent on getting closer on foot though. Not just yet.

Circling around anyone was not smart, but Calder saw it, in his culture, as an insult and a form of intimation. Ears back and nostrils flaring, he took the boil's actions personally, and turned to keep him facing the boil as he moved around him, and tapped the ground with a hoof to tell the boil's to watch it.
The horsemen stopped, and Calder stopped turning, facing him. "I was out picking some things from my garden." Carrots specifically.
His tail flicked, and when the boil's leaned in, he tapped his hoof again the ground and snorted through his nostrils. "I have met other horsemen." He glanced at the elk and back at the boil. "Your mount I suppose." The deer didn't respond, just like the other mount he met. Then again, it wasn't an actual animal, but a Fear extension.
"What are you doing out here?" He tried to remain friendly, but it was hard when the boil was pushing him in this way, and he stayed his ground, ears back.

The horseman had meant little insult, though it seemed his specialty at times to be completely oblivious to others emotions. His wings ruffled, skulls clicking hollowly together at the response he got. Senga had seen this sort of action before in animals before they charged, but this was a student, not a beast from the Isles. He wouldn't charge him, would he...?
"Garden?" Senga glanced down at Calder, a brow raised in faint interest. His own kin had kept small plots of land for herbs; at least those not well-versed in fighting. But to see it here only made this place even stranger to him.
"Yes, my mount. A red elk." Senga blinked and shook his head, allowing the hood to fall back and reveal the tawny locks striped through with darker strands. Swinging a leg over, Senga settled on the ground, peering at Calder with a hand placed against the mount's flank. He wasn't about to allow it to disappear just yet; he wasn't sure he trusted this odd horse just yet. His eyes, however, drew in curiosity to the others hooves. Tilting his head, Senga glanced back up at Calder, wings unfurling slightly. "What are you?" He inquired curiously, oblivious to whether the question might have come away as rude or not.
The next question caught Senga for a moment; what was he doing out here? "Hmm." Tilting his head, Senga looked around for a long while, trying to figure out a proper answer. "Ah, wandering, I suppose." He decided finally, turning back to Calder, skulls clicking together in hollow procession. Whether or not that was a satisfactory answer for Calder... well, who knew.

"A elk....?" He looked over to the deer, knowing it was different but not how. So this was an elk? He...he wanted to touch it, smell it, see how it paired up to a deer, but he stayed where he was. Something else caught his attention. A smell of something more canine in nature, and he was on alert because of it.
"I'm a kelpie." He told him. "...and you shouldn't wander around. What if something happened to you? You're loved ones would be sad." They had lost enough people already. Shouldn't the horsemen know to be more careful. "These woods are still dangerous if you don't know where you are going, especially if you are alone." Of course, he neglected to point out that he too was alone in the woods.
He wanted to cover his nose. "Are you....somewhat .....wolf like?" He pointed out.

"Yes." Senga returned with a grunt, the pads of his fingers resting in the flank of the creature. His eyes flickered back and forth between the two for a long moment before he stepped away from his mount and allowed it to step forward, closer as if to say to Calder, you can inspect this, I don't mind. His wings flexed upwards, skulls clicking hollowly together as he turned his head, examining the forest around them before returning it to Calder when he spoke again.
A kelpie? The word rung a bell, but not one that had anything worth telling in his own head. "Ah." He rumbled quietly, taking a tentative step forward into the others space to peer down at the interesting appendages. He grunted at the words though, lifting his head to stare at Calder passively. "I'm fine on my own." He flicked a wing as if to flick away the concern, "I didn't mean to come so far out though. And my loved ones are dead." It was a blunt truth - or close to one at least. Iyari and Jay might have been considered surviving ones, but they probably didn't look too deeply into his absences, and if they did, it was only because he had duties to attend to, or they wished to ask him for a spar, or for something to do.
Calder might have neglected to point it out, but Senga did instead. "You're alone here too." He folded his arms and glanced up at the knot and tangle of branches above. "I am in your company for now though," He said, looking back down, "so technically I am not alone."
He shrugged a shoulder, and the question only raised a brow. "Wolf?" He reiterated, glancing down at himself. "No. Well - not really." Horsemen were horsemen after all; they did not sprout tails or grow odd ears. He'd seen Conquest Nobles with horns, and his own kin bore wings, but as far as he was aware, there was not much else but that. Gently though, Senga patted his pelt. "Does this bother you?" He questioned with mute curiosity. "It's a pelt of a wolf that once roamed the isles." He explained simply. "It's as close to a wolf as I can be."
Because that really made so much sense.

Calder would have moved closer to pet the elk, but Senga was near him and for that he didn't want to move just yet. He lingered nearby, and listened to every word he said. "I suppose we're safe in numbers, but you shouldn't wander if you get lost. There is a trail over there." He pointed, hoping to offer the horsemen at least one safe and marked path in case he felt like talking a walk again in the woods. Calder knew that he couldn't keep himself cooped up in his room either, and had been wanting to check his garden before it became overgrown and the plants rotted. That's when they started to mutate and dig themselves out and then chasing them was just a hassle.
While Senga showed interest in his legs and ears, Calder looked down and lifted a hoof. "I...can change into a horse. That and a dark stallion....when I can." He hadn't mastered his last form yet. Still, he was trying to explain why he had horse legs, though they were normal to him to have. He slightly turned to show off his tail too, just to get the point across.
"And...I don't like the smell of wolves. No offense. It just...puts me on edge." Especially when he was alone in the woods.
Answered now, Calder sidestepped and slowly moved to the elk, holding out his hand to let it smell it if it needed that (considering it wasn't a real animal but a summoned creature), and then went to pet it's neck. It was very beautiful. "How fast does your elk run?"

"I suppose." Senga responded simply, blinking at the idea of following a trail. How... strange. The forests back home had been untouched apart from markers to tell the way sometimes, or warn of dangers that might be found deep within the labyrinth of trees. "Hmm." Nodding simply in return, the horseman ruffled his wings, considering a flight to explore the paved path sooner or later. It was strange and fascinating that these Halloweentown citizens insisted on such unpleasant sights to the eye in order to find their ways around, but Senga didn't care to linger on the idea long, considering this wasn't his home, and he needn't concern himself with it at all.
"A horse?" Despite his best efforts, the executioner could not hold back the curiosity in his tone. He'd heard of only a small number of horsemen being able to change their shape; those being limited to the heirs of the past. His lips quirked slightly at the sight of a tail, and he fluffed his wings in mild admiration. "Is it difficult?" He inquired thoughtlessly, taking a step forward with leisure. "Do you like this form better?"
He shook his head at the words; at least this one only verbally expressed his distaste. Senga remembered the wolf from before - King, - and his response, and found this one mild at best compared. "I apologize." He rumbled quietly, "it's commonplace where I - where my Clan is from." The skulls clicked hollowly together as Senga shifted, his eyes drifting before he was pulled back to Calder by the question no one had ever asked.
"Very fast." He rumbled quietly, rubbing an affectionate hand over the Elk's flank. It was just a projection of his fear, but he still admired the form nonetheless. Even taunted as a child for having a prey animal as his mount, Senga still took pleasure in the strange uniqueness of the beast in contrast to the predator mounts his family seemed to keep. Turning his eyes to Calder, Senga smiled vaguely, and the Elk turned its head as well, blinking at the kelpie. "Would you like to find out yourself?" It was an offer he didn't necessarily mean to make, but here in the darkness, he found himself rather bored, and this company was the only thing keeping the static and the voices away.

Calder waved off his appology. "It's okay. I like questions. I do like this form for some things, but I'm more comfortable in my other. I feel like there are things I want to convey that I can't get accross with hand gestures and words. Sad this is, even if I was in my other form, not many people would understand the messages. It's very strange being in a school and around others who just don't pick up on those things naturally." He said with a shrug and a smile. Being surronded by other kelpies, a simple turn of the ears and stomp of a hoof could say many things. Here, it gave mixed signals, and the threat of miscommunication was too high for him to try just being in his natural form all the time.
"Also makes it hard going to class or through the hallway when you're rather big." He gave a light laugh, which was a mix of a whinny and a chuckle, before looking back at the Elk.
"Oh, I...well. Um." How did he explain this. "Riding is...not something I'm all that used to unless it's my parents. It sorta...means a lot of things. I guess since it's not living that...it's okay just..." He bite his lip as he looked to the Elk. "I don't know." With kelpies, their skin naturally created a suction that kept their rider in place. He doubted the Elk provided such security. "How will I stay on?"
