Akiko awoke with a start. Lately her dreams had become more vivid, more real to her. Almost as if she were reliving her past. Why was it that she was having these dreams? Why now? The pixie hadn't the faintest idea what had triggered the nightmares but they continued to come back to her nightly; ghostly images of her past coming back to haunt her present. The mare lifted her head a moment, listening to the area around her as she surveyed her surroundings. Just a few feet from her she could see the faint shimmer of the prison that held her where she was. If she dared to try to walk through the wall of electricity that surrounded her she’d be stunned by an awful shock. The wall wasn’t electrocuted enough to kill her, at least not as long as she didn’t touch it very long, but the pain she felt when she touched it was certainly enough to keep her away.

With a sigh the mare lay her head down once more. There wasn’t nearly enough light in the room to suggest it were day just yet. Until day broke she might as well try to get a few more hours of sleep. Besides, it wasn’t as if there was anything else for her to do. It was hours still until Morsmordre would even begin to pay any attention her. Until then she was simply stuck right where she was. Slowly the mare closed her eyes and allowed the nightmares to return once more.

Darkness fell. Or perhaps it had been dark all along. It was difficult to tell at first. Akiko tried to stand and found her head hit against something. There wasn’t any pain as her head bumped the object; in fact it even gave a little. Curious, she moved her head again and this time she pushed up with a bit more force. As she pushed she could feel the object above her start to lift and as it lifted a bright sliver of light began to show, blinding her as it grew larger. Finally the lid gave way and the filly was surrounded by light. She waited a few moments, her eyes attempting to adjust to the light. When she was finally able to see she looked about her. It seemed that she had emerged from a basket that sat between two others. She only had a few moments to gaze about in wonder before she felt that something was wrong. Quickly she turned to see a foreboding figure making its way towards her…

Akiko woke with a start as light shone in on her face. How long had she slept for? The mare groaned as she struggled to see about her. The room was still dark for the most part but some light had begun to filter in. She wasn’t sure if that was what had caused her to dream of that fateful day or if it was simply just what woke her up. Still feeling drowsy the filly shifted herself as far out of the light as she could, turning her back so that she could sleep in the dark and then drifted back to sleep.

Akiko stood in the middle of her cage, the familiar humming of the underlying electricity surrounded her. Yet this time she was not alone. Just outside of the wall that kept her caged in stood the foreboding figure that she had seen before. “What do you want from me?” She heard herself whisper, terrified by the mare.

Nyx Queen of Darkness
Morsmordre had...taken care of the foals parents. The two unopened baskets fetched quite a price. Easily moldeabl as they'd not yet seen anyone outside of their little wicker homes. But...this one, had been born and had seen her. She'd taken a risk by keeping her. But something about the delicate features and colours...the easy nature had convinced her that this investment would pay off if only she could train her easily. So far, she'd been given to imposing on her and trying to break her will. That's what she needed to do. If she broke her down, then she could have sell her for a high price as a trained pet.

Trained pets were worth a lot. She needed the supplies for her cause. What did it matter to sell some inferior breed? They were obviously made best to be slaves or pets for a kind such as herself. Sometimes, Morsmordre would sell to some other breeds that were inferior--but only at a increased price.

"What do I want from you?" She bared her teeth as she leaned back her head and laughed, "I want your unfailing obedience little one."

Akiko backed away from the mare as far as she could. The look on her face chilled her to the bone. Why couldn't she just let her be? Let her go... Where? She wanted to be let go but where would she go if she was? She didn't have a home, she didn't have any parents, and she had no idea where her siblings might be or what they might even look like. Yet, even if she didn't have any place to go, wasn't it still better than living as a captive? Better than being someone's slave? The filly didn't have any clue. There were plenty of things that she didn't know about the world and plenty that she might never know. Not if she was continued to be kept like this.

"Why can't you just let me go?" The filly asked timidly, afraid to give in but yet still afraid to fight. Perhaps she could just convince the mare to let her leave. She didn't have much faith in the plan, but it was better than not doing anything at all.

Morsmordre let out a low guttural laugh. "Let you go? How stupid are you?" She watched the little one back away, the stupid foolish thing thought that it could convince her or whatever to let her go. You can't convince someone who doesn't have a heart.

Morsmordre tossed her head, the snakes hissing and slithering around in her hair in agitation. "I'll sell you. I'll keep you as a pet, but you'll never breathe free air as long as I have you. I control you. I named you even, and I will decide if you live or die. Test me too much and your life will be much shorter than you want."

Akiko could hear the mare's words flying by in her head. No heart. Named her. Sell. Pet. Control. Live. Die. The words swam circles in her mind, repeating themselves over and over again. Faster and faster until she couldn't make them out any more, until they were nothing but a persistent, loud, buzzing in her ears. Akiko screamed, screamed, and screamed some more until she awoke with a start. She could see traces of light now, more than there had been before yet not enough. The mare hadn't been asleep for very long at all and she could still feel sleep trying to pull her under and drown her in her misery once more.

Sleep. She could never escape it. Her dreams haunted her reality and she was always so very, very tired. Whenever she gave in to it she only slept for short periods at a time and they were always the same dreams. The nightmares. She wondered how much longer she could go before she went insane. Or perhaps she was past that? It was hard to deem yourself sane or not. Akiko could feel her eyes beginning to shut once more, sleep forcing her eyelids to close. She tried to fight it, tried to stay awake, to keep away the nightmares. Yet it was all to no avail, darkness swallowed her up as quickly as it had released her.

Once again she could see the mare in front of her, her dream picking back up where it had left off before waking. Yet this time the words had stopped and she could hear herself talking. "But why me? She whimpered to the mare, backing herself up into a corner as far away as she could get.

Morsmordre was loving watching this. She loved to watch them break, and cave underneath the pure weight of it. Akiko was her. She would have her broken to the point of thanking her for saving her and being her captive. The girl was foolish. You can't escaped what you've always known.

"Why not you?" She laughed again, "Why the hell do you think your so special? So really, why not you? You were just easy pickings. Wrong place, wrong time...whatever you want to tell yourself. I don't know, I don't care. Maybe I'd have found you no matter what."

Akiko gulped as the mare talked to her. She took in deep breaths, taking them in and letting them out slowly. She wouldn't panic, she wouldn't cry, she wouldn't scream for help. She had tried them all before and it had done her no good in the past and likely wouldn't do her any good now. In fact, she suspected that Morsmordre would love it if she did any of those things. Akiko refused to give her captor any satisfaction in such a way. Especially not by humiliating herself. Perhaps instead she could somehow bargain with the mare? She doubted that it would help but it was certainly worth a shot. It wasn't as if she was going to get anywhere where she was now.

"What if," She began to whisper, then made her voice a little louder so that the mare could hear her. "What if I worked for my freedom? There has to be something that I can do!" She pleaded with the mare. She needed to get free of this place, to leave the nightmares and the bad memories behind.

Morsmordre let out another harsh laugh, "You think that you can bargain with me?" She paced around and glared at the little butterfly. "You're worth just as much dead as alive. I could sell your pretty little pelt, so maybe you should remember that. If you want to keep living, you'll listen to me."

The snakes writhed and hissed in her hair, "Deals are to be made with who I sell you to. Your servitude ends only when I send you to a new owner. If they want to free you, I don't care. But if I come across you again...well, you'll be a slave again."

She started thinking about the offer she had recieved from a many eyed stallion. Later she'd run by the swamp when she was finally broken in enough to take her there.

Akiko was beginning to feel frantic now. She certainly despised her present master, but who knew how bad her next one could be? She needed to find a way out, a way to escape. Yet she appeared so thoroughly trapped. Was there no escape for her? The pixie looked around frantically, unable to stand another second in her cage. Even with her master standing just outside of her cage. Her eyes locked onto the mare then, her hatred for her urging her to move forward. Instead she took a step back, and then another, and another, readying herself. When she was to the edge of her cage, Akiko pushed forward and ran head first towards the wall of her cage where her master stood. In a matter of seconds she hit the wall, and found herself on the ground before the mare. Writhing in pain .

The mare woke again and cried out as if she were still in her dream, still in pain and with what she thought could only be the sound of cackling filling her head. Yet as quickly as it had come, the pain was gone again and her head only ached. For once, the little mare wished to fall back asleep. Wished she could sleep with no dreams and only a cool blackness that would swallow her for all eternity. Or perhaps her mind would create images of sunshine and fields with rainbows. Anything to take her away from the hell she called a life. She almost wished her master would sell her off, let her try her luck with someone else.

Akiko tried to go back to sleep, yet this time it would not come. The dreams were sadistic, only coming when she willed them not to. Almost as if her master controlled her dreams as well as her life. The mare shivered at the thought, yet it didn't seem all that untrue. She was about to try to sleep once more when she heard something off in the distance. Her ears pricked towards the sound, wondering if it was her master.

Morsmordre had been getting rid of a few...failed slaves. They were easy to be rid of, just a hole in the ground and making the other slaves cover them. It really helped their fear levels increase. This mini girl she had--Akiko--practically quivered whenever she saw her. That's what she liked to see.

She could feel the malicious smile light up her face. The little fool didn't know they she'd already been entertaining offers for her. She was rather adorable, at least that's what she told the buyers. She'd make a perfect little pet...

She walked in and saw the startled little mini with bags under her eyes. She look terrified, and she could see a slight quiver. "How did you sleep, Akiko?" She grinned wide as a shark.

Just as she feared, her master had returned. Akiko tried to close her eyes, to will herself back to sleep. To let the darkness and the dreams engulf her. Yet still they refused to come. Blinking back tears of fright, the little mare scrambled to move as far away from her captor as possible. Quickly, she inched back until, in her haste, her heel hit the edge of her cage and she stifled a cry of pain. She might a slave, forced to do whatever her master demanded. But she didn't have to give her master the satisfaction of hearing her scream.

Forcing the hysteria and the pain back, Akiko tried to regain any composure she might have. "I slept just fine." She replied coldy to the mare. "I don't see why you would be concerned, it's not like you've e ever cared." The mare tried to give her master an icy gaze, but she had never been very good at such things. If anything she just looked more pathetic.

Morsmordre let out a low throaty purr, "Oh, I care...I care very much." She walked slowly in front of the cell. "Soon you're to be sold to someone very interested in acquiring you as a pet. I'm sure you'll like your no home and not act out against them."

Her eyes flashed, "I've found just the perfect new master for you...I'd hate to have to find someone less pleasant if you ruined your chances with this one." She sighed, "And then if you're just...unplaceable. Well, you'll be disposed of. Price is good on Pixie meat right now. I'm sure you'd taste delicious."

She turned to glare at the small one, she'd named Akiko. "Do we understand our place Akiko?"

]Akiko flinched at the thought of another master. If he was anything like her current one she wasn't sure that she could stand him. Then again it was difficult to be just as nasty as Morsmordre and Akiko was likely she would end up in better hands. That was as long as she continued to behave as her master wished. She knew that the mare wasn't lying when she threatened to find someone worse for her. She was capable of many things and was stuck to her word.

The pixie nodded as her captor spoke. Not quite trusting her voice, but then she did have to ask. "When will you ship me off?" She knew it wasn't wise to question the mare, but if she knew when she would be leaving it would her time here easier to handle. At least her new captor might be easier to escape from.

Morsmordre eyed the tiny being. She was afraid, almost quivering. The question fell from the Putti's lips, and she coudln't help but smile. She already had a buyer, the trade would go through very soon.

Her new master would be...something else. A being not entirely evil or nice, but there would be no escape or reprieve from the situation. She would never make it out of the swamp.

"Soon, we'll be making the journey to him. He'll treat you very....special," Morsmordre laughed.
