It's possible that the previous user set the time back to January for whatever reason. You can change the date to any date you want.

indifference ninja or it could be from a beta tester, testing the system and game. I was guessing either that or some kind of quality control test or whatnot.

I just checked my girlfriend's 3DS. Her's shows the first day she got it as the beginning of her activity log as well. I am curious about if anyone else has activity earlier than when they first got their system.
