Amarus had not really frequented the Maul since the fiasco with the ginger hizzy. In fact, she could hardly remember having been there afterwards, though she imagined she must have-- maybe? Amarus swayed slightly as she stood at the entrance, jostled suddenly by a couple ghouls entering behind her and shooting her dirty looks. Her bells chimed as she was pushed to the side, and as she stared blankly at the retreating ghouls she could hear them complain.
"As if she doesn't know what to do in the Maul," one of them muttered darkly. The other one scoffed."She must be totally lost out here in the real world, then."
They were gone in an instant, but it left Amarus acutely aware of how completely unused to ... any of this she was. The whole shopping thing, that is. And today, she was trying to get something accomplished which she had absolutely no clue how to do: buy an eyePhone.
As per usual, she walked a couple inches above the ground, levitating just slightly but behaving as though she wasn't. It kind of helped, when she was so short. She idly smoothed her outer robe down and looked off down the hall. Well, there was no time like the present? Or something.
Amarus headed towards one of the maps, to figure out where the jack she was supposed to get a skellyphone. Squinting and staring at the board for an abnormally long time, trailing one silver-painted nail across the titles, she finally found what appeared to be the vendor for eyePhones. She had never bothered with one, but it seemed like... now was probably a good time, really. During her time in the clans' land, she had borrowed one, and it seemed to be relatively useful if she could actually figure out how to work it.
Finding her way to the booth was relatively easy, despite her general dislike of the Maul. Feeling like a fish out of water, she simply stared at the displays, chewing on her bottom lip, arms crossed over her chest. Amarus looked distinctly perplexed, and if it wasn't for her Lotus essence, she would have probably looked very upset as well: not only was it hard for her to read the information provided and figure out what was what, but when she did read it she couldn't seem to figure out what any of it meant.
"I should have brought Mort, it's like they write in a language no one but geeks can decipher..." Amarus lamented, shaking her head slightly so that her bells rang again. Sadly, she had not brought her techie friend, and was beginning to regret it. Maybe she would have to give up and come back another day...? But it seemed like such a waste, now that she was already here. She looked up briefly, looked around, as if contemplating whether or not she could ask someone for help.
Pride usually wouldn't allow it.

Honestly, a ghoul looking confused at technology was something so common he was going to just pass her by and keep walking. After all, he had more important things to do. Like, nothing. Why should he bother caring about some ghoul who was stupid enough to go and try to do this on her own? He shouldn't, thats what. At first he did walk right past her, intent on going to make good on that promise of doing nothing instead of being a decent Halloween Scareling, but for some reason he stopped. Just. Stopped.
He couldn't explain why he did it, nor did he even really want to, but he turned and walked right back to her, standing somewhere just behind her with his arms folded across his chest.
"You know, that's kinda rude." He chided, sounding as annoyed as he really was; he didn't want to help her, but why was he there? Somehow, he felt Lizzy was to blame for it. Her and her constant pup-eyed staring at him whenever he was ever a hint of mean! "It's not the company's fault you're an idiot." He didn't seem to sound as offensive as his words might have implied, but he did mean it.

She didn't really need an eyePhone, did she? Amarus mulled over that fact as she stared vacantly, wishing that the words would rearrange themselves or that Mort would suddenly appear. This was definitely not her forte. Ever since she had gone swimming with the lotuses, she'd been forced to deal with actual emotions, too; in this case, she could feel some sense of disappointment in herself looming on the horizon. She quickly and forcibly shoved that notion out of her head, her jaw setting and her eyes brightening as the purple-pink aura around her skin flickered and then lay low to her skin again.
Amarus didn't come to until there was someone standing behind her, talking to, presumably, her. "Rude?... Ah, what is?" Amarus was not oblivious to the fact that her manners were lacking. In fact, she seemed to only ever succeed at communication with plants, animals and in any kind of combat situation. There was fairly little to be confused about when one communicated via one's fists, she thought.
Sadly, she could not just punch this boil. Even if she kind of wanted to. Not because she was particularly mad, but because it would feel nice to do something she was actually good at. His insult rolled off her like feathers shedding water; she didn't seem to react. Her Lotus Eater aura and its transparent smoke filled her immediate space. When she inhaled, she felt its calming effect, and pulled it to her. "It is true that there is no one to blame for my inefficiency but me, yes... Maybe I just don't need a phone after all?" Amarus shrugged, her bells ringing.
She held out one hand, as others had done before and it seemed to be the generally acceptable way of greeting new individuals. "Hello, by the way. I'm Amarus," she offered. "Do you understand this stuff, then?" she asked, gesturing afterwards to the skellyphones and their listed information. Some of the formality slipped out of her, but she still held herself like a fighter, because that was the only way she knew how to be, even now.

"That" He clarified again, being a total smart a**. What was rude? That was rude. Yes, Mac was of the helpful sort, really! There was a small part of him that was fully expecting to be punched or yelled at - because that always tended to happen - but when nothing came it was almost like a sigh of relief. Almost. He almost missed being punched in the face for no reason.
"Everyone needs a phone, especially now." Mac snorted instead, rolling his eyes that the idea of one not understanding meant that it was something they shouldn't have. After all, he didn't understand why he still had Lizzy but damn he was going to keep her! There was something curious in the way she took a breath and seemed to calm though, but sadly he didn't get too much time to dwell on that particular fact.
"Err---Mac. Hi." Black eyed wandered down to stare at the offered hand, clearly hesitant as to whether or not he should even take it. He didn't know this ghoul after all, and for all he knew she could have been a Demon of some sort; his ghost senses weren't tingling, as he was not a grim by any means. In the end he didn't shake her hand, instead burying his hands into his pockets. Better to be safe than sorry, he always thought.
Keyword: Thought. Not did.
"I understand it, but I'm not a nerd." Another unamused snort, but otherwise he wasn't doing too bad with the whole short fuse thing he tended to have going on. A miracle in itself, really. Despite his being nice, he certainly wasn't going out of his way to offer his assistance to her. Babysteps, of course. Babysteps.

Mac's rudeness, whatever there was of it, kind of went over Amarus' head. If she could be rude, then so could he? Well, it was more like she couldn't help herself, and ... there were still some bugs that needed to be worked out of her, really. Her ineptitude with socialization. "Especially now that what?" Amarus wasn't sure why anyone would need a phone. Ever.
And it was just the way she was: when something made her feel like a failure, and she didn't hold it in very high regards, she'd simply avoid or discard it. Like books. Or classes about healing (jack be damned if she was ever going to take another of those courses again).
Amarus wasn't sure why she had offered to shake his hand in the first place. Observed gesture, and she figured he'd prefer it to a bow. In the end, she settled for bowing. That was her natural response. And she'd probably promptly forget about the hand-shaking urge.
"I only know one nerd, I wouldn't know how to recognize them," she replied, her silver eyes scanning Mac's face for some kind of clue as to what he was possibly thinking. "If you understand... mind helping me pick one?" Amarus paused, shut her eyes, and opened them again. "...I would appreciate it, Mac. Especially since I generally enjoy your attitude."
Not really that last part, but hey, her attitude was pretty lousy too, so it kind of suited?
