Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

Attempt 1Ami wasn't so sure about this. It's true that she had done well on the life training course and was feeling a tad more confident than on most days, but she'd heard rumors about this course- and they were rumors from Wilson so you know they had to be bad.
She still remembered the day he came into her dorm all beat up claiming it was due to the shadow run.
With a nod and a deep breath in, Ami stepped down the eerie hallway. Only a few monsters approached her at first, and Ami decided to start slowly. There was no point in haphazardly running through. This really wasn't so bad. So far she'd only seen shapeless figures- no bugs or rats. That was an improvement from the insanity creatures.

Her thinking was with hubris though. She destroyed one more, and the mob was upon her. No more "one or two" monsters. Now it was a full on crowd, swarming her, crawling up her legs, attacking her from every angle.
She was swallowed in mere seconds.

Attempt 2First attempt? Not so great. She took it too slow. Ami's plan today was to attack it all at once.
At first, it was rather successful. She made it almost ten feet into the hallway when the swarm came once more. She found herself batting left and right, and was actually doing somewhat well, if not exhausted.Status Wave: 1 Attack Dmg: 8 Total Shadowlings taken out: 8 Recoveries left: 0

The exhaustion got the better of her. Her swings slowed until she found herself taking pauses to rest. Here's a little tip for all you newbies out there: Pausing in the shadow run is just about the worst idea out there.
The monsters immediately seized the opportunity granted by her inactivity and launched themselves at her. She was under the pile, thrashing and kicking, and then knocked out completely.

Attempt 3She was not giving up on this thing. There was no way she was letting it go without a fight. Multiple fights. She would tear the hallway down if that was what it took.

The next few steps she was pushed back by the shadows so much that she only managed to stab one through before a number of them jumped on Junpei. She spent a good ten seconds shaking them all off, and that was precious time lost for her.

After slowly making it forward a step or two, Ami decided to beserk. She just went crazy and let Junpei hit whatever he wanted. Quite frankly, it was actually a rather good stress reliever. It began to wear on her though. Ami was built for short bursts of ingenuity, not long term plans, at least when it came to fighting. Mentally she could go for days, but she was physically inept in a lot of ways.
Hopefully they wouldn't test her on that.
Ami realized after a moment or two that she had actually made it farther than she had on previous days. She gave a little whoop, only to find the monsters REALLY liked noise. Attempt 4Ami frowned as she walked into the room once more. She was stubborn to the point of fault when it came to this course. She just wouldn't let it go. She HAD to win. Had to.
She stepped in and began adopting the same strategy as before. Slow and steady. Defeat one enemy, take one step forward. It was rhythmic, but certainly not pretty. Ami wasn't a good fighter after all. Most of her hits were lopsided, slashing diagonally instead of vertically, horizontally instead of diagonally ... Ami was just getting frustrated now. She started slashing left and right, not really having a plan. There was no plan whatsoever to this.
