Eric stared across the desert. He was standing exactly on the border between the regions. Where lush life gave way to a desolate desert. Why he was tasked with a patrol here when all the six were evidently in their lands or ensconced in some sandy castle in the heart of their ruthless seat in the desert. He did not know. He sighed. No action here, he might as well have stayed at the Inn and watched in comfort while Roxy chased his chosen around with a large cast iron frying pan for some silly thing the big blockhead had done earlier that morning. It was a good thing Edward had long legs cause his little spitfire was fast. Eric smirked. He himself had not found a mate yet....best to stay in the fire and avoid the frying pan as it were. His blue eyes sparkled at the humor inherent within that thought. Eventually he would find a mare who intrigue him enough to stay around for a while. He yawned. So far no such opportunity had blatently presented itself so he would just keep to what he had been doing before. Irritating Edward. That twig could not possibly be in his mane...ugh. he tried to ignore it but sadly his vanity won and he picked it out angrily. This is what he got for not disappearing at the time when heavy patrols were chosen. He sighed. He would have preferred his elegantly furbished stall to this dry stanky scrub land on the verge of being completely devoid of surface water. To that point how did those evil brats survive out there without water or rather copious amount of it. He himself did admire a lake or river or other large bodies of water. They out there may have never seen a puddle for Soltos's sake.

Mother and Father blast these sands! He had been just about free when he'd stepped into a loose bit of sand, and Izusko had lost his footing, and gone sliding backwards, down a dun, and into a very large, nasty bit of quicksand. He'd tried being patient and slow-hoofing his way out, but his heavy muscles and bulk had only served to make him sink deeper into the sands, and it had quickly immobilized his legs, rising up to suck at his chest. Soon, it had risen to halfway up his sides, and he'd simply stopped moving, to slow his descent. He couldn't think of a way out of this sand unless some passerby happened to be kind enough to lend him a hoof, so he tilted his head back, and in his deep, baritone voice, started calling out, "HELP! Somebody, get me out of this quicksand!" He'd been there almost an hour, and his voice was starting to get hoarse. "Help... quicksand... up to... my back... please...Oh, screw it..." Izusko murmured, stretching out his neck, and resting it on the surface of the sand, in an almost resigned gesture. This was no good, as far as he could tell. Sound folded back on itself and rarely traveled normally in a desert, and what were the odds that anybody would be able to pull him out, even if they came along? He was a massive stallion, after all. It would take at least two, maybe three normal Azrein to pull him out.

What is Azreth was that racket? Eric's ears perked up. Help? Now who could get their butt stuck in a desert. It was all made of sand. Eric dogedly trode into the desert. Oh this had better be good, he thought. OH.. eheh it was. Quicksand, he had forgotten about that. Eric peeked over the rising crest of a dune. His golden body meshing with the lighter layers of the sand, meaning that only his bright blue eyes stood out well. "I'm guessing you didn't really want a bath huh?" He said with his usual sarcasm. "My you are a big lad. What did you eat for breakfast? A tree?" Eric coughed. And stepped over the rise in golden vampiric splendor. "Really a muscely chap like you should not mess with this soup. Actually no one should. Its awful...as I'm sure you have found out by now. Eric examined his target. Huh not alot of hair to pull by. To bad for this azrein but NO ONE had the right to tug on his tail. That was simply out of the question. "Hang on a sec, oh right..nevermind." Eric disappeared back over the ridge and came back with a gnarled old branch, that despite its appearance was very strong. "Here, take one end in your mouth."

"What in the name of the father is a tree?" Izusko had to ask, glancing up at what he perceived as a desert 'spirit'- all he could see of it was the creature's bright blue eyes, and then more taunting, and then the creature stepped over the ridge. Just another Azrein, he could see now. Ah, that calmed him a bit, but also meant he was probably gonna die. But then... the other stallion left. And came back with something... bizarre, and told him to grab it. It didn't instill much confidence in him, but Izusko sighed, and did as the other Stallion told him.

Eric set his haunches back and pulled. Man this bloke was heavy, even for him. But as he steadfastly tugged and his hind hooves dug ever deeper into the sand. The other stallion began to pull free of his prison. Yup this was definately a breed he himself had never seen before. Thick legs led to dinnerplate sized hooved and a thick torso. Good heavens, his butt was the size of Eric's stall door and just as square. Too bad he wasn't the one stuck in quicksand, one tug by this bloke and he would have flown out of there like a bird who just realized a snake had crawled into its nest. At last the other azrein was pulled onto the solid sand away form the infernal hole from whence it had come. Eric dropped the stick least he be seen by someone else and there would be solid evidence that the dusty, bitter thing had been in his mouth. "There we are, free of the hole and good as new." he commented happily. "What posessed you to climb in there in the first place?"

This single stallion... he was doing the work of three. And he was so small... only about as big as one of his breed's foals or yearlings. But he had a smart-aleck attitude that didn't sit quite well with Izusko. "Nobody willingly climbs into a quicksand pit. I slipped down the hill you came over, truth be told...ugh... I have sand in places I'm definitely not used to having them..." he murmured, and then gave his mighty frame a hard shake, tossing sand off his back and legs, pawing at the sands to get some off his legs. "Ah, just a bit better... So, who are you?" Izusko asked, turning to the other stallion, and looking down at him, curious. He was easily two, maybe three of this thing before him... And how he'd pulled Izusko out of the pit was a puzzle he truly wanted to figure out. He could see smallish fangs, and quirked an eyebrow at them curiously.

Eric snorted. He had to hand it to this stallion he had a dry sense of humor that Eric found refreshing. "I am Eric Northman, and you are?" He asked. "You must be a different breed with your size and evident power." Surely if he were born to the desert he would have avoided this area of sand like the plague. Eric watched as the other azrein cleaned the sand off, revealing an interesting striping pattern that seemed to accentuate the large muscles underneath. "What an asset you would be in a battle." Eric admired. He was truly impressed by the body on this azrein.

Izusko nodded at the comment about his being a different breed. "I am Izusko... I believe most people call my kind 'draft' horses...and I do enjoy a good fight," he smiled slowly, and then looked back at the quicksand pit, before moving up towards the dune again, careful with his hoof placement. "I am thirsty... know you of any oases or cacti... Ah, nevermind, I found one..." Izusko smiled, looking around, until he'd spotted a large cactus, and moved towards it, and then set to work, using a sturdy forehoof to scrap of the spines in a large section. Then, he bit into it, and proceeded to repeat until the top was wide open, and began to drink slowly, on eye still on the other stallion. He paused, lifting his head, and licking his lips, before asking, "Come, are you thirsty? this is a large one, and I owe you for giving me a tug..."

Eric looked at the other stallion like he was crazy when the mad male started gnawing on a cactus of all things. Yuk. Eric gave him a doubtful look and stepped closer. "There is water in there? Usually I get enough water from my meals but I am rather parched. Is it quite safe to drink?" Eric inched over and studied the odd, hostile looking plant. What an odd being it was so obscure looking but able to survive where even the most hardiest of trees failed to cling to life. Eric hesitated and took a sip. "Huh not bad."
" I have never seen a draft before, you would be my first."

"Well... mostly safe to drink... some cacti make you see things a little... off... but that's alright. It wears off after about an hour, if you're not used to it. This one, though, should be fine..." Izusko murmured, tilting his head slightly before moving back, looking around. "So.. where do you come from?" Izusko asked him, quietly, peering at his pale flesh and hair. It would likely cause him to flake in this kind of heat- pale horses didn't stay pale long out here...

"Erm well, I am a bit ancient. I came a long long time from the world below and became a vampire. I think I was born one but its been so long I'm not even sure. I upset my maker because I came to disagree with his way of life, now he likes to ignore me rather then kill me." The water tasted funny but was quite pleasant. And it refreshed him. The heat didn't bother him much. It mostly just made his thirst worse, the rest seemed to roll off him. Sometimes a braided mane and tail was a good thing. He was sure the draft would agree as he had very little mane and tail. "So what is your story? You ever been out of the desert?"

Izusko had never met a vampire. Somehow, he'd always imagined them... bigger. But he'd experienced the strength of even one so small, and kept his thoughts to himself. "No, I have never been out of the desert. My birth herd lives there, but we're running out of sand to claim... and so I am moving out, looking for new territory. I will have my own herd one day, and we will be strong enough to claim as much as we'd like as our own," Izusko spoke softly, a small smile coming onto his face as he thought of all the land he and his mares and fellow stallions would one day claim, lush and full of life, unlike the arid desert he'd been born to. Some place where you weren't as likely to lose a foal as breath if you weren't careful. Where you wouldn't have to bite open cacti to get a decent drink of water.

'I've heard of one as large as you say, thankfully they are content to stay by their beloved lake and trees. They would be very powerful if messed with." Eric should know, one of his bondmates was the leader of said herd. "I hope you find a peaceful place and what you are looking for." He said. He didn't want any strife to become of the others territory hunting though. That would be unpleasant. "As long as you don't hurt or threaten anyone you should be fine to live where you please."
