From the yearbook booth Mitsu lead Shun outside into the slightly warmer air, one hand clutching the jar of jam looking over the label while the other held on to Shun's arm. Sure he was sticky but that really didn't seem to bother to lycan who was focused on reading the quirky phrases on her jam label.
"Witch's Best Booberry Jam. If you're in a jam this may preserve you." Some old bitty witch was no doubt pleased with her little line. Mitsu could just picture a cute little old witch churning jam in her cauldron.
Looking away from the jar, Mitsu turned her attention to their path to make sure they were headed in the right direction. "I hope I didn't catch you too off guard at the picnic the other night." She said thoughtfully, turning crimson irises up to look at Shun's face. "I really did mean what I said."

Walking along with his hands in his pockets, Shun furrowed his brow as Mitsu read off the label of the jam jar. Right. Shaking his head at that, he soon glanced down at her as she addressed him more directly.
"It was certainly a surprise.. but not a bad one. It was not really something I expected to hear from you," he said softly. Something must have spurred her. At least that was what he thought might have happened regarding the motivation behind it.

"It was...a bit of a last minute decision I admit." Her eyes softened and her smile grew a little. "One I won't ever regret making." She hugged his arm a little before turning her gaze up ahead. "I would be regretting it more if I hadn't said anything. Though you understand I don't expect a wedding like...tomorrow." Her expression grew a little mischievous as she nudged him a little. "Perhaps the day after though."

"Yes, I realized that as I was thinking about it. It is.. a bit soon for an actual wedding I believe," he said before eyeing her as she said the day after. That.. was a joke right? Shun hoped that was. He just sort of lightly nudged her in return before softly adding, "I'm glad you don't regret it though. A part of me is surprised in another way."
Just the idea that anyone would want marriage out of him. There was still that small part of him that kind of felt that he wasn't quite right for Mitsu and was surprised she stuck with him regardless.

He had nudged her back though Mitsu wasn't certain if the joke had truly sank in or not. Shun was getting better but some things still eluded him. It's what made him who he was though and she wouldn't have it any other way.
"Why would you be surprised?" Mitsu asked curiously, looking up ahead again to make sure they were on the right path still. It didn't look like they were far from where she wanted to take him. "Do you doubt that I love you?"

"I don't. You could probably say there's still a little piece of the 'old me' who has some trouble grasping the fact that all of this is real," Shun said quietly. He soon shook his head. No. He knew she loved him. There was no doubt there.
"Despite feeling it.. if you were to ask me 'what is love' now, I couldn't give you much more of an answer now than from a year ago... if that makes any sense."

"Well I don't think I could give you a very good explanation on what love is either." Mitsu admitted. "Other than what I feel for you. If you were to look up the definition it says an emotion of strong affection or personal attachment but truly that only skims the surface which makes it hard to explain."
"Speaking of a year ago." Mitsu finally came to a stop beside a tree. "Its actually been a little over a year now but this was where we first met." Tilting her head up Mitsu pointed up to the branch she remembered clinging to desperately trying to get away from a cat. "That's where I got stuck before you finally got me down. Do you remember?"

Those words definitely on just barely scratched the surface of how he felt for the girl. He really didn't know how to describe it, but it was definitely a strong thing he felt. Contemplating it for a moment, Shun soon paused as they stopped in front of a tree. He was a little confused for a moment, but Mitsu soon explained just where they were.
"Yeah, I remember.." he said softly as he gazed up at the branch where she had been stranded.
"It's kind of strange... I had seen you earlier that day but passed on by. It was on the way back that Bent-Tail wouldn't stop chattering at me to get me to help you out.." he recalled, "At the time it seemed almost pointless but... I'm glad it happened."

"Well, I'm certain you thought a normal person could get down on their own," Mitsu giggled hugging Shun tighter. "I'm glad you stopped too. It's strange to look back and think about how different we were. I was scared to show my face." Now that notion seemed silly though it hadn't to her at the time.

Shun pulled her closer to him, thinking about how things were just a year ago. They both had changed a fair amount.. granted his own changes were a little more subtle and below the surface.
"Emotions eluded me. And well.. they still kind of do. But I do see the value in friendship and love now. Things I thought were frivolous and unnecessary a year back."
He really did think there was no use in those things. Just sort of 'niceties' at best.

Mitsu giggled again. "You have a better grasp on things than you think." Reaching up she lightly poked his cheek. "You can be thoughtful and caring and you seem to catch on to a joke now and then. I really don't ask you to be a master of emotions, if you were I doubt you would be the same person I love."
Nuzzling against him she looked up into the tree a bit longer. "You know...I probably still couldn't get down on my own if I got stuck." Mitsu giggled at herself this time. "Maybe I haven't grown as much as I think I have."

Shun blinked as she poked him in the cheek, looking at her a little curiously. If he were a master of these things and were completely different.. he wasn't sure if he'd like himself either. It was hard to say. His eye took an amused light to it as she mentioned the tree once more.
"We could always work on that, but you've grown a lot yourself. You aren't afraid to show your face. You aren't afraid to fight or stand up for what you want. You have much more confidence than you did then," he said softly.
Personally, he felt that she had grown much more than he did.

"Yeah well....I hope you realize that's because of you," Her tone while light was serious as she shifted her gaze to her reaper's face. "You're the reason I wanted to grow, the reason I wanted to get stronger, and that I still strive to be better."
Her hand reached up to lightly touch the eye patch she had given him. "There is still a lot I can't do that I wish I could. A lot of things I wish I could change but I can't." Her hand moved to his cheek then, cupping his face lightly. "But I know you'll be there to support me as I struggle to try as I will be there to support you no matter what."

Turning more towards her, Shun's expression softened as he gazed down into her eyes, leaning into her hands. His arms snaked around her waist, holding her close as he listened to her speak. There was something incredibly heartwarming to know that he had helped her get to where she was today.
"I always feel.. 'behind' when it comes to strength. But because we are always striving to improve, we can really only go up. I will do everything in my power to be there for you as well," he whispered.
He really hoped that she had stopped blaming herself for what happened with his eye. That truly was more of his own fault, and even then, there was very little that he could have done about it at the time.

His arm had snaked around to hold her closer though there was really no need. She was already pressing up against him and the sticky film the goo had left behind was keeping her well in place. "We have a lot of growing to do, but I look toward to learning along side you," Her arms wrapped around his neck lightly, smiling up at her reaper.
"You know looking back it would have been a marvel to witness this expression you have." One of her hands came back to lightly caress his face. "Lizzy and Xiu tried so hard that one day to get you to smile." It was kind of funny to think about now though Mitsu still felt the same way about Shun's laugh. She had managed to get a chuckle out of him but still hadn't understood how.
