Turns out finding symbols was a LOT harder than she'd anticipated. She'd found simple ones online, but really? Most of them were absolutely useless. The library wasn't much help either. She'd poured through a few greek letters, examined some ancient symbols and nothing looked like what she'd found on Junpei.
It was altogether frustrating. She didn't like not knowing when she felt so close to a breakthrough. So Ami had totted herself over to the life labs, and had been spending quite a bit of time in them. At first just pretending to visit for odd jobs, then more in depth. Pretty soon she'd been spending whole days just searching things up on their computers.
Part of her wondered if anyone even noticed how much time she was spending here, but most of the hunters seemed to just ignore her or not care.

The life labs were home to most of the life division hunters, like a second dorm. Course it was one filled with potentially dangerous hazards and a myriad of angry miniature creatures where they did their work, but a second home nonetheless. leon didn't really care much for the labs, as he sourly made his way to the building and its doors and security features. The boxer let of a massive yawn once it came to the retina scan and shuffled his way in when the airlock doors allowed him access. Welcome, Stone Leon. the automatic voice called out in its cheery, autotuned influenced sound.
"Oh bite my a**." he growled out and stomped in angrilly. another day in the labs, half the time he came in here, it was mostly minipet caretaking duty. the day was spent cleaning, feeding, watering and scaring the small demons to behave at least for 30 minutes before they tried to screech and scream and gnaw their way out. Thankfully the water bound mini's behaved better most of the time. It was either that or helping Clarice with categorizing old experiment data.
most of it was just lugging boxes of paper to the top alcove of the labs storage area, or filing away the more recent data below the filing cabinets on the floor. and restocking all the supplies. The occasional experiment would be issued to him, in which it was always fun to take out the old safety goggles from his coat and don the coat and gloves.
those were fun days. Fun days were rare in the labs when it came to doing real work.
Still, after walking in, it did seem like there was someone enjoying themselves in their research. The brunette almost wanted to roll his eyes at the slacker and tell them to get back to work. The fact that the researchers didn't have the standard issue life labs safety coat did make a couple of warning bells go off in his head. as he roared behind the person at the screen.
"I SWEAR TO ALL THAT IS HOLY, YOU'D BETTER BE DOING SANCTIONED WORK OR AN ANALYSIS AND NOT BE PLAYING ANGRY BIRDS ON THAT MONITOR!" he bellowed as he took a firm grasp of the collar of the hunters coat before whirling the person around.
"What do you think you're doing?"

Ami flailed wildly as two tan hands gripped her neck and turned her around. What she found on the other side was a very angry life hunter. Aw s**t she'd been caught.
It didn't stop her from sassing a little. "I was just researching something! That's what you lifers do isn't it- research?" With any luck maybe he was a lover of studying and would let her go on her way because she was chasing a passion.
... Yeah that angry glare didn't look too forgiving.
"Look I'm sorry. I was trying to find some info on these runes," she admitted, "But I won't do it again. So just ... seeeet me down. Nice and gentle ..." Please let God have mercy on her poor soul.

"Wanna research my fist to your stomach?" leon barked back rudely, letting go of the hunter after a moment. if it was one thing he hated, was the other divisions coming in to use their equipment. Half the time he wold hear either the sounds of some video they sure as hell was not supposed to be watching, or the telltale crack of some kind of item that was once whole on the table or the floor. "look here go and do your "research", i'll be here sorting these slides." he said back, letting the air quotes hang in the air before flopping his hands back onto the table and curled up into tight fists.
"instead of looking on the screen, why not pick up that textbook over there on the rune-encryption study we have." he growled out irritably, "they're less prone to damage or virus transmittance and i won't need to get all techy on it."
the last blue screen of death from Roberts night of movies was still fresh on his mind.

Ami had no idea what "getting all techy on it" meant, but she nodded slowly, realizing he was actually being kind of nice. At the announcement of a book, she was ecstatic. If she could read something both in a book and on the internet, she'd choose the book every time.
"We have rune encryption books?" she asked, quite curious. She realized his knuckles were turning a bit white as he curled his hands into fists. "Ah ... I'm really sorry about using your computer. Really." He would have to take that- it was the best she could do for now.
Maybe she'd offer to buy him lunch one day or something. Ami thought a good kindness shouldn't go unpaid. At least, if Leon was willing to help her at all that is.

He wasn't.
"Yeah, books. tons. go read them or get buried alive in the volumes too while your at it." he said blandly as he waved Ami away and went back to his own slideshow of fear tissue degradation. "Call me when your confused or possibly dying." He said quickly as he stayed on his side of the room after pointing the female toward the book area that was kept nice and tidy, you're welcome.
"you'd best learn those things fast, we live by that runic code in here, most of the notes are encrypted like that." he said as a small offering of info for the trainee that was visiting, a lot from what he remembered. "What's your division again, invader?" he decided to ask all of a sudden, not taking his eyes off the slides.

Ami always walked away and went to read a book in silence like she ALWAYS did. Always.
Yet she didn't. Something about Leon was intriguing. Maybe Clarice would come by and make him take off his clothes wait wrong rp. She looked up at the slides on the screen and said, "Are you studying ... tissues? Of what? Is that minipet tissue or something ..."
She realized Leon was waiting for her answer and looked at him like he was crazy for a moment. She'd forgotten is was one of the rare days she didn't have to wear her coat, and could just look cute. No coat = no indicator of division after all! She promptly said, "Moon division." Then she went back to the slide, trying to figure out what exactly he was studying.

a moon invader. lovely. leon had to control himself and his eyes from rolling at the answer he was given. of all divisions to let in, normally moon was the worst, only second to a sun hunter. from what he saw, it only led to destruction and a few months of work and experimental data to redo all over again. He just needed to hear a slide to break and all would be normal. "yes, its to understand the half life of fear particles once they are cut off from their fuel source." he said blandly, not even bothering to look up from the microscope, only to switch the magnification on the instrument. 30x was not enough for a comparison.
"its to get a proper grasp on how long it takes for a fear creature to decompose without nourishment, both minipet and humanoid alike." he explained further without the notice to continue. He wasn't going to say that it would probably be used as a form of torture or emergency measures for containment of hostiles.
it was still fairly quiet in the labs with only the sound of a chair squeaking from the ever slightest movement.

Ami nodded slowly, examining the slide pictures with Leon. Unlike most moonies, she had no inclination to destroy anything at all- that was Julie's job. Sigh. Julie. Poor Julie.
"Hmm, so you could estimate how long a siege might take. I suppose you could also use the information to further preservation studies for minipets and FEAR samples- I imagine you lose quite a few... Not to mention you could focus on methods that might speed up degradation in runic weapons to speed up the ah ... killing process," she mused, crossing her arms and tapping a finger as she thought.
She adjusted her jacket and shook her head, coming out of some sort of strange focus. "Hmm, nevermind me though. You said the bookshelf was over there?" she asked, pointing innocently.

"Lose a few?" Leon blurted out before scoffing at the mere statement. "That's a given, the amount of lost samples is staggering. staggering." he declared. that was mostly due to the rigorous testing that was placed on the creatures. There was no Scare P.E.T.A. here to save them. "But thats not due to malnutrition, at least it does not play a major role." and promptly stayed tight lipped about it. after all she wasn't part of the division.
Its like telling Dakota about STD's, goes in one ear and out the other, he was sure this would be no different.
"Yes the books are over there." he said pointing in the general direction of where they were. just as long as it was away from him. It was rare time when he was allowed to do his research and not the victim of Clarice's "reorganizing" dutites.

Ami took a step towards the books, and then second-guessed herself. This FEAR degradation ... it was interesting. She'd be lying if she said experiments weren't somewhat intriguing to her. Especially since Leon had disproved her initial hypothesis.
"Do you think ... I could just ..." she said, hand reaching out to touch the slides. "Maybe look at them ..."
Her hand dropped. She didn't want to make this burly dude mad. Again. She'd already messed with his computer. Messing with his slides probably wasn't okay too. "You never asked for my name or gave me yours. It's Ami."

the immediate pounding of fist to table could be heard. "Touch my slides, and i'll make sure one of them is a cross section of your flesh." Leon said in a snarl, with a much happier one echoing in his head from a certain weapon.
OOH HUMAN TARTARE MMMMMM! "Names Leon." he said gruffly before pointing back towards the books.

"Are you always this angry?" Ami asked snarkily. She didn't like people getting angry over nothing, and she especially didn't appreciate threats of mutilation.
< Well you WERE trying to get all up in his gills. >
I'm simply interested, is that a crime?
< Don'tchu get mad when people touch your s**t? >
Ami really had no comeback for that.
She sighed and said, "Nice to meet you Leon." She followed his finger to the books. It really would have been the nice thing to do- leave him alone, that is. Yet Ami stayed right where she was standing. Perhaps she was having ... a bit of fun riling him up? "Have you been in life for long?"
