I stumbled upon this today and it made me need a Firefly RP. I actually have a hard copy of the Serenity RPG Core Rulebook that I've been trying to find players to game with and today I acquired a pdf version. I also talked with some of the other Crew and we've got at least 3 dedicated players (Bayer, Venom, me, and possibly Native) willing to do this. And it's only been a few hours since I found the thread. What we need now is some discussion. First - Should we play with the rulebook (it has stats and stuff)? Or should we do it freeform like most RPs on the web? Or a hybrid? Second - Should canon characters be allowed? I'm generally against this but curious what y'all think. Third - Browncoat or Alliance?Come on people now - Discuss.

I'm inclined to say probably freeform though I'm open to either if we really like the system.
I'm disinclined toward canon character PCs.
Browncoat or Alliance... I'd do either, but if we're not all on one side, could be problems... If PVP happens, the rulebook should definitely be brought out, I think.

Either-or when it comes to the rulebook is fine with me. Rulebooks tend to dissuade a lot of internet players (especially the more casual crowds you usually find on social sites like Gaia).
If I played, I wouldn't want canon members. Well, I should clarify: I wouldn't want canon characters available as PCs. If they made a cameo I don't think I would mind. Otherwise, zero canon.
I think it would be fun to play Alliance for once, or even freelancing for the Alliance (bountyhunting, Outer Rim work, etc.). That said, I'm certainly not averse to the Browncoat cause.

I think we'll probably do freeform and use the books for reference but not actual stats and rules stuff. So as not to exclude anyone. The books are still a fun read though - they're written in the Firefly style. Canon characters will not be allowed as PCs. Aaand we'll be doing Alliance and Browncoats so no one has to play a side they don't want. But at the same time we shall find a way to prevent PvP so don't worry about that - it will be AWESOME. And to sum up what Firefly is - it's a western in space. Originally a TV series written and directed by Joss Whedon (Avengers, Cabin in the Woods, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) with a movie (Serenity) added on later, Firefly is the perfect marriage of frontier grit with sci-fi flair. It manages to pack all the essential elements of the American old west into a believable, futuristic setting: hard living, pioneer spirit, civilization vs freedom, vanishing frontier, beaten rebellion, an out of touch government, colorful language, dangerous savages, gunslingers, brothels, outlaws, aristocrats, even horses. Some 500 years from now humanity has spread into a new star system but people are still people no matter how far they go. There's still those that don't have two food packs to rub together and the high 'n mighty what throw away a week's worth of food every day. There's the fancy high tech hospitals can near bring a man back to life in the Core when children's dyin from colds out in the Rim. An you got the Alliance lordin it over everyone how they unified the planets under one law, brought civilization to the frontier. Well, we didn't ask for it. Bunch of us fought against it. But we lost. Now we scrape together what livin' we can out in the black, running cargo from one desert moon to the next. Some of it's legal. Some ain't. Only matters if we hit the bad luck to run up on an Alliance cruiser in a mood to search us. We'll deal with that when it happens. Just a taste from a Browncoat's perspective. So I've been volunteered to run this. I'll try to get up something soon for it and this'll be the OOC thing. For now reply here if you want to play and let me know the following:
1) Browncoat, Alliance, or Neutral?
2) Casual, Intermediate, or Advanced?
3) Desired role (Captain, pilot, medic, muscle, etc)?
This way I can get a feel for what y'all want so I can tailor the game to y'all. If anyone has suggestions or ideas and things speak up.

Wooo~ Interest!
We're finally back from the 3,000+ mile road trip of insanity. I'll start drafting up stuff for this but I would like a few more voices on those three questions to get a better idea of what I should do with it.
Those questions again are:

I'm game. Not sure what type of character I wanna play yet. I was considering remaking one of my old standbys, but I dunno...
