The rooftop adventure had been rather uneventful as far as Deryk was concerned. Sometime after that was all done, he ventured to the cafeteria to grab a bite to eat. Deciding to go with a few of the softer and less acidic things that the place had to offer, he took his tray and sat on down. It definitely wasn't too easy carrying everything around when his hand was pretty much bound as a fist at the moment. It made his left hand a bit useless right now. On the plus side, it hid the fact that he was missing a finger pretty well.

For now.

People would find out eventually.

Heaving a sigh as he looked at the wrapped limb, he shook his head to himself while slowly and carefully beginning to eat.

After helping Robert, Candace had distanced herself from the barracks once again. She wasn't being a coward about Jerry and Sasha, not anymore at least. Candace was finding she did genuinely feel better above ground. That first afternoon she had slept in H's office had been amazing, she hadn't felt that relaxed in awhile. It was nice...even if she had the occasional moment of petty, catty possessiveness over the doctor during certain times of day.

Atropos made fun of her constantly for it.

But now Candace had other things to worry about. People other than herself were beginning to buckle under the stress, under the pain of having nowhere to hide their moments of vulnerability. They couldn't even have conversations without spectators. Jordan was probably so pissed...she felt bad for going up there. Jordan had been so kind and helpful to her, she should have returned that kindness then. She'd tried...she'd tried to help make them leave.

Ugh.

Candace was ruffling her hair a bit as she wandered into the cafeteria, almost walking right past Deryk. She stopped, turning on her heel to look down at him. Deryk! Right! She'd wanted to ask..!

"Who did it?" She asked without any announcement she was there, sitting down beside Deryk without any other word of warning. Cut to the chase. Candace didn't like beating around the bush sometimes. "Your face...and..your hand. What happened?" Candace was frowning, leaning in enough to get a good look at the scar on his mouth and then down at his hand. What the hell..?

Deryk had been silently eating, just sort of getting lost in his thoughts. When Candace's voice suddenly sprang up behind him, he jumped and started coughing. He had swallowed his food a little too soon there. It took him a few moments to get past that, but he wasn't dying so it was all good. Just coughing.

"O-oh hey Candace. Startled me there," he said with somewhat of a wheeze-cough-laugh combo. Once he had caught his breath, he relaxed and glanced down at his left hand.

"Eh... was patrolling the Haunted house. Ran into a student. Super hostile. More than any others I've run into before. Couldn't tell if male or female. But. Reminded me of character named Malfatto from Assassin's Creed. Plague Doctor. Kinda just what I been calling it otherwise. But uh. Yeah. Fight broke out. Had to flee."

The trainee shifted uncomfortably as he thought about it.

"Blamed me for 'taking her away'. Dunno who it was talking about though. Never seen it before then. It was.. really angry."

Candace smiled apologetically when he became startled, waiting patiently for him to regain some composure. But she listened quietly as he explained what happened. The students were getting more hostile? She couldn't blame them. She was frowning again, reaching up to lightly trace a finger beside the stitched wound on his mouth. Oh, Deryk. You poor thing. She knew nothing of Assassin's Creed, though. "Who's Malfatto? I've never played tha--oh...a plague doctor.." She frowned, thinking hard on if she remembered any of those. She didn't...damn.

Taking her away? "Huh...maybe we killed or weaponized its friend or something. We did cause quite a wreck to those horseman isles. Maybe..." She pursed her lips. Maybe she could add a plague doctor to her list. "Does it hurt?"

Deryk flinched lightly as she touched the cut on his mouth. It was still fairly tender. At least, he noticed that he seemed to heal more quickly than he did before his life as a hunter. It would probably be all good within the next day or so, but it was probably going to leave a scar.

"Maybe.. Probably has something to do with that. Can't say I blame it if that's the case.." he said, sounding a little half hearted. Thinking about these things stirred up a number of things within him, and it was confusing.

"Hm? Ah. Yeah. It does. Not gonna kill me though. I guess. Kinda strange how it all turned out."
PostPosted: Fri May 25, 2012 12:02 pm

Deryk's flinching was enough to get her to draw her hand away, smiling apologetically. "Sorry. I get too touchy sometimes..."

Candace sighed, looking Deryk up and down for any other obvious signs of injury. Never a dull moment, huh? At least he wasn't dead! That was a silver lining here. He was alive, a bit damaged, but okay. "That's good. I'm glad." No more dead hunters, please. She looked down at his hand, frowning. Wasn't his weapon on that arm? How could he use his weapon like that? ********>! Her eyes widened. It was like when Aria had told her if her legs were too damaged she'd be useless. She couldn't fight. What about Deryk? Could he learn to use his weapon on his right arm instead of his left? He was too nice to be put back into a pod!

"What's the damage on your hand?" She asked, trying to hide her worry. If he couldn't use his weapon..

"It... It's alright," Deryk smiled weakly. As the attention went back to his hand, he glanced down at it. The injury didn't really effect his ability to use his weapon. The injuries he sustained.. it was definitely kind of funny how it turned out. He lost the exact finger the assassins of old had to remove, and he was likely going to have the same scar as a chunk of the protagonists in the game had. It might have been more amusing to him if it didn't suck.

"Er... ah..."

He hesitated a bit with answering.

"Leftringfingergotcutoff..." he murmured.

His...left..

What.

Candace's eyes widened and her jaw clenched, desperately trying not to look as horrified as she was by this news. She failed.

His finger. It was gone. Just. Cut off. She self-consciously rubbed circles around Atropos' rings with her thumbs. She couldn't imagine losing a finger. Augh. It must have hurt so badly. "I-I see...that's..that's wow...uh.." Candace rubbed her lips together, unsure of what to say now. "So..you say a plague doctor did it? An angry one?" That was <******** up.

"Did you even provoke it? Or did it just...attack?" Stupid monsters.

Shifting uncomfortably, Deryk glanced away when he saw how horrified Candace looked to hear that.

"Real angry. And.. no. Had weapon out but didn't taunt it or anything like that. Whatever happened.. it wanted revenge. Badly. Didn't listen to me. No. Ran into another in the house before. Confrontation was nullified for most part. Not here though."

Humans did crazy things for revenge. At least according to games, movies, books and whatnot. It seemed that the people of Halloween were no different in that regard.

So Deryk didn't provoke it. The plague doctor had started it. Candace was right, they were just a bunch of savage beasts. She was frowning, reaching for Deryk's good hand to hold it and press a light kiss against his knuckles. "You'll be okay. Next time you come across it though? Kick its a**, okay?" Candace looked up at him with an encouraging smile, eyes darting down toward his bandaged hand before turning back up to his face.

"..You realize this means you can never be a bride." She sighed woefully, a hand against her cheek as she released Deryk's hand. He was uncomfortable. She would lighten the mood for him. "No ring finger on your left hand. You can never properly wear a wedding band. Oh, what's a girl to do." Candace put on her most mournful face, turning away from Deryk to sit facing the table. "Poor, poor Mister Bond."

Unfortunately for Deryk, he didn't jump to the same conclusion Candace did. Humans have done worse to each other for less. Granted, he did feel that something should probably be done about 'Malfatto'. If it stayed hellbent on revenge, it was a hazard. It could potentially even turn its anger towards those who weren't hunters! That would be even worse.

"Yeah.. something like th-wait. A b-bride?" he blinked before pursing his lips together, somewhat befuddled.

"Woah. Hey. Wait. Not gonna be a bride! No plans for that. Not even a girl! .... You saying I'm a sissy?" he whined.

Oops. Deryk didn't get the joke, but at least she got his mind off his injuries. Candace chuckled and shook her head. "It's just a joke, calm down. I'm not saying you're anything..." She pat his shoulder and sighed, smiling gently. "I was just trying to lighten the mood."

Candace fell quiet a moment, unsure of what to say next. What to do.

..Revenge, huh?

She pursed her lips. "...Hey, Deryk. Uh..I should've asked before. You remember that number you gave me? For that Mitsu girl? How...how do you even know her?"

Deryk gave a weak laugh as she said it was just a joke. Woops. Though, he soon blinked as Mitsu was brought back up.

"Oh. Uh... Had to go fetch some minis and a few other things for Caelius. One of them was an ascended ghost dog. Seen the one in the labs? That's Mela. Mitsu helped me get her. Met her while in a golem," he explained.
PostPosted: Tue May 29, 2012 11:03 am

Ah, so Caelius had given Deryk 'shut the ******** up and get out of my presence, peon' work. That explained it. Candace hummed, tapping thoughtfully at her chin. "What was your golem's name? Would she remember you?" were Mitsu and Deryk's golem friends? That could work to her advantage!

"It's been awhile so not sure if she'd remember me. Maybe though. Depends how good her memory is. But uh. Derykion. That was the name I used while I was there that time," Deryk replied while thinking about it.

"Ran into a few of them like that. Minipets didn't like me too much outside of Mela."
