User Image Kai examined himself in the calm water of a quiet pool just off the main stream of a creek. He wasn't sure what he was looking for perhaps a sparkle that had left his eyes. He wondered where it had gone. His time with Zaira had run out. She hadn't been as adventurous as he had thought, he hoped she found a stallion who suited her. Meanwhile his cousin had been making goo goo eyes at a pretty mare called Irri. Kai wondered who he would fall head over tea kettle for. Perhaps he needed a guy friend who was not...related. He gave his reflection a flat look... or perhaps on of his younger cousins would grow up tolerable. Kai looked up and glanced around. His horn glinted dangerously but its master saw...grass how ...exciting. Ugh. He needed therapy. Kai returned to his reflection. "Dude you need a hobby." Perhaps today's horizon would bring him what he sought, adventure, excitement or at the very least something NEW!

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Raz was having trouble coming to terms with his actions of the recent past. The mare he had encountered should have been his first kill, but instead he had found himself pursuing her around the meadow, and finally forcing himself upon her in a moment of lustful fancy. He couldn't face himself after the act, and turned and fled the meadow. He had no idea what became of her. And he would never mention the act to his father or any other member of the herd. With his luck, they would reprimand him brutally, and then expel him from the herd, to make it on his own. He wasn't ready for that just yet. Sometimes he wondered if he didn't have more of his mother's blood flowing through his veins than his fathers. He tried to be cruel and calculating, and not allow himself to have feeling for those Azrein who served the King, but he continually found himself doing just that. He idolized his father, but he loved his mother. For now though, he would continue to travel by himself, unless he happened across another Azrein. Of course, there was no telling what he might do then. He was still conflicted.

The sun had been beating down on him now for the past hour and his throat was feeling dry. He needed a drink and a shady spot to rest for a bit before continuing on. He didn't think he was going to find either staying on the road as he was. Off to his right there was a stand of trees, so he headed in that direction. As he neared the tree line, he could hear the sound of running water. His feet seemed to move a bit quicker, all of their own accord, and he entered the welcomed shade of the trees. It didn't take long before he saw the stream through the trees. The water was gurgling and splashing over the large rocks in its path, calling him to its edge. He reached the edge and lowered his head to drink in the cold, clear water. His throat was quickly relieved of its dryness, and he raised his head to scan the area.

It was at that moment that he heard someone speak, but he couldn't determine where the voice had come from. Here near the waters edge, sound was distorted. The voice could have come from upstream or down, across the stream or from behind him. He felt the hairs along his back start to rise, as he began turning round, scanning every square inch of his surroundings. When the voice did not speak again, he found himself backing slowly away from the stream and into the tree line. He was not so foolish as to be caught out in the open if he were in danger.

Aw well nothing for it. Time for him to move on. His reflection could only give him so many answers the rest was for him to find elsewhere. He moseyed on up to the tree line. There should be some tasty clover around in here, he had thought he could smell its entrancingly sweet aroma on the wind when he had passed by the grove to get to the stream. Kai blinked. There was something distinctly purple in those trees. He stood completely still running ideas around his head and preparing for whatever might happen. His blood began to rise and the adrenaline flooded his system. Someone out to attack him? Most likely they were here for a drink but one could never be too sure. He wasn't defenseless by any means. He bore the horn of his mother and the large, powerful, muscular...spotted form of his father. If one could call them spots they were more of splashes but the newcomers wouldn't care about that. He was doing it again. Thinking. Where his mother would have been done calculating already and no doubt taken all the glory to be found. Well what was the next step. Kai walked forward and allowed the other to see him. He was likewise hard to miss with his vibrant coloring and deep blue mane and tail. He walked nonchalantly past where the onlooker was standing. Keeping an ear and an eye cocked for any trouble.

Raz stood motionless as the Azrein came into view. He didn't try to hide himself, but instead allowed the stallion to take his measure. The stranger looked like the sun walking along the streams edge. All yellow and spotted. He was definitely not going to go unnoticed with a coat like that, thought Raz. That horn in the middle of his head might cause him some worry were he to decide to turn and charge. But Raz had been in his fair share of training battles with other Azrein his age, back in the herd, so he wasn't at all intimidated. He was simply gathering facts, and calculating his chances of survival should a fight ensue. Sometimes the only way to determine who an Azrein served, was to come right out and ask them, and sometimes that was best done from a distance. He was trying to determine if that distance was enough right now. Oh hell, he thought, why not throw caution to the wind? Let the leaves fall where they would.

"Greetings stranger," he hailed from his spot in the tree line. "How goes it with you this day?"

"It goes well enough with the sun upon my back and the company of a fast moving stream beside me Forestdweller. I hope your day is as enjoyable." Kai nodded at the other. So he wasn't a coward. That was good. Cowards were good at stabbing you in the butt when you were not looking. Kai's gaze swept over the toned form of the other stallion. Huh not an ounce of fat, a capable fighter then. Which mean they had common ground. "You look like a well muscled sod. Many a battle having passed under your hooves I bet." Kai shook out his mane. "Where do you come from?" He asked curious, and not in the mood for a fight. It would simply be nice to have a conversation with someone new and exciting. And by the looks of this fellow he was both. "I come from near Sandar Lake."

The purple stallion was tall. Kai could not tell much about his personality yet but he could see pride in the others stance. A thing stallion often showed to each other right from the get go. But there was also something...different from what he was used to ...something odd. Huh.. Ah well no use pondering over something he may never find out.

This one was chatty, thought Raz, but he would need to take care until he could determine if this stallion served the Six or the King. Forest dweller? So he believed Raz to live here. Battles? That was something he didn't expect. So this guy thought him battle tested did he? It would serve Raz well then to let him continue to think that. The fact that the stranger claimed to be from the region of Lake Sandar led Raz to conclude that he was probably not aligned with the Six. However, that could be simply a lie, to divert unknowing Azrein from his true mission. It was not unknown among the herd, for males to be sent out into the kingdom, under the guise of friendship, in order to gain valuable information about the King's forces, and his plans. But this one was not a member of his herd, so he couldn't be sure without coming right out and asking, or without revealing his true nature, and he was not quite ready for that just yet. All these thoughts went through his mind as the stallion spoke, and when he finished, Raz replied, "I am called Razien. What brings you into the forest this day?" He would not be so bold as to claim the forest as his own.

"Just an adventure brought me here, I'm a horizon chaser and I haven't seen this area yet so I thought I would take a look through. It was a pleasant enough place to stop don't you think?" Kai asked looking at the lush poplar leaves and the nearby blue sparkling stream, a white mushroom or two poked up amoung the dead fall and low bearing foliage. "It was quiet and I thought uninhabited." He had been proven wrong that was for sure.

Raz could relate to the stallions desire for adventure. He'd traveled all the way north from his home in the southern desert, to this forest. He'd heard vague references to it being called Fresya Woods, but he could not verify that on his own. All he knew was that the forest was thickly wooded, and he liked it much better than the vast, open, sandy desert his herd called home. He was also right about it being quiet. Raz had not seen another Azrein since he left Freezia behind near Sandar Lake, and entered the forest. Moving amid the thick expanse of trees was something best done slowly, so perhaps a herd would not find it acceptable as a home. Personally, he found it quite calming, and didn't want to leave.

"Yes," replied,"it is a pleasant place to rest. There are not many of us living here." He decided he would continue to allow the stranger to believe he lived here. "Might I inquire as to your name?"

"My name is Kai Darksun, son of Tide and Kainda." Kai said by way of explanation. "How many of you live here? I only know of a few and some are quite ...edgy and antisocial." He was reminded of Uncle Ion's run in with Voreti and wondered if this was the self same forest where she had run him out with her on his heels snapping the whole way. Kai stiffled a chuckle.

Hmm, how to answer this question, he thought. He was digging himself deeper and deeper into a pit of lies with this one. Well, he would run with it for a while yet.

"For the time being, it is just myself. My younger brother has gone off to spend time with our father to the south. But welcome. Feel free to go where you will. If you wish, I will stay and talk with you, or I can leave. Whichever you would prefer. I am not one to intrude on another's solitude." He hoped he hadn't sounded too pompous, but he wanted to give the appearance of this being his home.

"You can stay if you like. I really don't mind the company if its all the same to you er... what is your name?" Kai looked a tad embarrased but adventure was a lonely line of trade. More so if you were from a large, boistrous, noisy herd such as he was. Few were the times of complete peace and quiet there. In the day it was talk and the night it was...snoring. He shuddered at the memory of his Father and Uncle's sleep snoring matches, sometime they had had to go and sleep at the pond away from the two brothers.

"My name is Razien, but most simply call me Raz," he answered. He walked over to Kai and lowered his head to the water to get a drink. After wetting his throat, he was ready to learn more about this stranger.

"So tell me Kai, where is it you call home? I don't meet many of our kind here in the forest. It's refreshing to have someone other then my brother to talk to." Not that his brother didn't like to talk, but all he ever talked about was the Six, and how he couldn't wait to go to battle with other Azrein. As far as Raz was concerned, if he never saw another fight, be it a training match or an actual fight with one of the King's Azrein, he would be quite content for the rest of his life. It wasn't easy being his father's oldest son, and having to live up to his expectations.

"I'm from a herd at Sandar Lake. We live under a great pine tree. That is where I call home. On stormy nights the sea serpents can be seen dancing through the storm. They twine around each other and call, it is something quite fierce and natural to behold. Certainly one of the wonders of this land.

"Where did you come from? The mountains? OH the desert perhaps?" Kai asked eagerly. The male didn't seem overtly evil. But he would still keep a piece of himself ready for anything when dealing with strangers as his father had taught him.

[ooc: Sorry Ed, I asked the same question of you twice. My bad.]

How to answer the question? Raz's mind was working on overdrive. He'd already told the stallion that this forest was his home, but when he came to think about it, it didn't really make sense that he had been born and raised here. He would take the safe course and claim somewhere not associated too closely with the Six. "I was born in the Borro Hills, but I chose not to stay there, and my brother and I came north to this forest to live."

"Where is your brother is he around? Is he purple like you too?" Kai asked curiously. Until you saw his parents, one would never associate Kai and his sister Tempest as siblings. One was orange and one was black, no middle ground to be seen. Kai was fascinated by new azrein, specially of bright colors like Razien was.
