Within moments, Deryk had arrived back to the island at the portal, clutching his left hand still. Tooley was trying to get him to calm down. After all, it shouldn't be a fatal wound. It wasn't his whole arm. Just a finger. But it still hurt like HELL. And he was still bleeding a lot so the death trainee was a little more than panicky at the moment. His mouth hurt too, and he could taste the blood thanks to that cut, but his hand was definitely more of a priority and issue at the moment.

"Aaaaaaaaaaah... whydidIhavetorunintooneoftheangrymurderousoooooonnnnnesssss..." he whined as he stumbled away. He needed to get to the medic lab. Quick.

Portal duty. Boring. Madison stifled a yawn - while she had Kouki summoned just in case something nasty came through, the blades were sheathed and she was pretty sure Kouki himself was sleeping. Yes, in theory something could come through; after all, that was how all the freakin' grey remnants had made it in. But it hadn't happened yet.

Bori-

And then suddenly there was screaming. Madison whirled in time to see a Hunter stumble free of a portal, trailing a red line of blood. "Hey! Hey, whoa, whoa-" she yelped, coming up beside him- damnit, what was his name again? Darren or something? "I've got bandages, hang on!" She remembered the basic training from Life, at least, and the runic bandages were indeed tucked into her obi.

Oh good there was another hunter here. And she had bandages! Wait. He kind of recognized her. She was in his division. The girl with the four swords.

"ThinkImightneedmorethanjustbandages," he whined hastily as he stood by, still trying to somehow stop the bleeding his stump of a finger was doing. It hadn't quite hit him yet that digit was gone for good now. The pain and bleeding sort of distracted him from that fact.

"I... Probably should go to the labs. Yes. Medic. Need medic.."

Madison winced as she got a better look at the wound - s**t, looked like one of his fingers was totally gone. "Stick your hand out," she ordered, unwinding one end of the runic bandages. "Let me wrap that up so you don't bleed to death on the way in, okay?"

Nodding, Deryk just bit his lip as he shakily let go of his hand and held it out for his fellow trainee. Stopping the bleeding would be good. Very good. He wasn't really sure how she was going to wrap it up, but hopefully the runicness of the bandages will just be good over all.

"Manthisreallysuuuuuuckssss."

Madison quickly grabbed the offered hand. "Make a fist," she ordered, then let the runic bandages unfurl, putting the pad of gauze down over the bleeding stump and pushing down hard, because getting pressure to stop the bleeding was more important than comfort right now. Remembering her Life training, she bound the wound tightly, pinning Deryk's other fingers down as she did so, wrapping the ends of the bandages around his wrist before securing it. The bandages glowed as she made the last connection.

"... Okay, there, that should hold until you get to the labs," she said, looking up at him with a frown. "Here, c'mon - you've lost a lot of blood. I'll take you." She tugged out her cell phone and sent a text to the Hunter on backup, advising them of the situation so the portals wouldn't be left unguarded.

Deryk whined as he forced his hand into a fist. Moving his other fingers made his hand hurt more, but he managed still. He might have been impressed with Maddie's quick work, but his mind was on other things right now. The death trainee let out a cry of pain as she pressed down firmly onto the wound. He almost passed out right then and there as a result.

But, the pain did ebb away a little after she had finished getting his hand wrapped up.

"R-right. Th-thanks," he said shakily. He was feeling a bit lightheaded right now. While Madison got her phone out to contact someone, he just started to sort of make his way towards the labs. The fight with Malfatto had him worn down, even without the injuries. The bloodloss certainly didn't help so he was moving a bit slowly and sluggishly now, but he was still able to walk on his own.

It didn't take much time for the Hunter assigned to backup duty to show up; when they did, Madison hurried to catch up to Deryk. "What happened? I'm Madison, by the way... and you're... Daniel? Darren? It's kinda hard to catch names when you only see someone on missions..." She took her scarf off and offered it to him.

"Want a sling? It might help, keeping it elevated and stuff."

"Deryk," he said before nodding. For once he didn't do his usual 'Bond, Deryk Bond' introduction.

"Sling would be good. And uh. Was on patrol at the haunted house. Ran into a student. Super hostile. Was angry about something. Said I took 'her' away. Wouldn't calm down. Fight broke out. C-cut off my finger!"

Taking her scarf, he started to carefully make a makeshift sling to let his left arm rest in for now.

"Dunno what its deal was. Wanted to kill me. Probably would have if I didn't flee."

It wasn't his first time encountering a student that wanted him dead. There was the black dog he had run into on the island. But, he did kind of get that one coming, striking his friend first and all. Others have also attacked him on sight, but it was never quite like this. The plague doctor acted as if it had some personal vendetta against him, when he had never even seen it prior.

"Eh... we kinda did kill a bunch of them on those Isles," Madison said, with a cheerful grin, remembering how freakin' pretty that explosion had been. "Probably just had a grudge from that, I guess. Who can tell, with freaks? They're freaks. Sucks about the finger, though... and you got a bit on your face..."

Now that the more serious injury was temporarily taken care of, she was able to focus on the other wounds. He looked pretty beat up, but... "You might get a scar like Dr. H outta that one," she said, sympathetically, and pulled a tissue out of one pocket. "Here... you already got all my bandages."

"True..."

Deryk still didn't really know how to feel about that explosion. He hadn't really come to terms with it, but it wasn't something he thought about often. He tried not to think about it really. They still had work to do. Even so, it just didn't really feel... right? The trainee fell silent at the 'freaks' bit. It was too easy to just disregard them as monsters and leave it at that, but...

He just shook his head to rid that train of thought for now. One of them had just maimed him practically. He should be angrier than he was right now over it.

"Oh. Right. Almost forgot about that one. Got me in the face after cutting off my finger. Still back there in the house or something..." he sighed as he took the tissue to gingerly dab away some of the blood around his mouth. It stung, but his hand had kept his mind off of the paint on his face.

"Can't expect them to act like humans when they aren't," Madison said sympathetically. "One of the first ones I ever saw in that house looked real human, too - like you couldn't even tell she wasn't until she started throwing s**t around. At least the rotting ones are a little more obvious..." She made a face, then grinned again, though a bit less brightly than before.

"Just on standard patrol? Any of the grey things in there?"

Deryk made no comment on them acting human. He had seen behavior that suggested otherwise but he wasn't going to say anything on that. Granted, the same could be said about this particular encounter. People got enraged beyond reason too.

"Regular patrol yeah. And nope. Didn't run into anything else aside from the one. If the grey things were there I'd probably be in deeper trouble.."

"Geez." Madison shook her head, eyeing Deryk's hand. "At least it was just a finger... I mean, uh, obviously that s**t sucks, but better than an arm. You ever met Davey? He's great, but damn, I wouldn't want to lose a limb... you don't have the, uh, finger on you anywhere, do you? I think they can, like, reattach stuff. Maybe."

They were almost at the Life Labs, at least. She could take him to Clar- <********>, no, Clarice was on that mission thing. Ugh. Hopefully there'd be a good tech in there. Or Rein- no, damnit. She was gone too. Ugh. Robert?

... she couldn't envision it, somehow. Robert was for big heavy lifting and stuff, not delicate surgery. Well, there'd be someone in there who could fix it, that was for sure.

"You were in that room on the Horseman Island, right? I remember seeing you before... I mean, same division and all. I used to be Life, though." She looked up at the Labs as they approached. "Still trying to figure out what Death means to me, really."

"Davey? No. Didn't know we had a guy that lost an arm around here..." Deryk replied with a murmur. That made him feel more grateful that he hadn't lost his entire arm. A finger wasn't as big of a deal.

"Er... no. It's back at the Haunted House. I uh... fled the moment I had a chance," he said before tilting his head. Lifers... The first person that came to mind was Robert. No offense to the guy but he wasn't sure he'd trust him to reattach a finger.

"Hm? Oh. Yeah. I was there. And well... kinda trying to figure that out a bit myself. I mean. Information gathering? I can do that. Used to be a hacker and all. But somehow... got a feeling that kidnapping and that stuff is on the menu too..."
