The sun was low in the sky and the lighting threw long, dark shadows across the savannah. Against the darkening grass, the pale lioness stood out like a stark, bright ghost. Monifa lay on a low, flat rock, absorbing the last drops of warmth from the day. Her head rest on her crossed paws, lulled to the side and watching a herd of antelope move warily in the distance. The day had been long. An afternoon of wandering and hunt left her with weary paws, bloodstained fur, and the discarded remains of a medium-sized prey-beast nearby.

The cat stretched her legs far in front of her and pulled her jaws wide in a yawn before lulling, relaxed once more, atop her perch. She had no destination for her wandering paws. No path to follow but the one her heart made. But Monifa was starting to think, now, that she may have been outgrowing her life of travels. The thought of settling was, though, quickly whisked from her mind as the winds drew a breeze around her and her tail curled around her legs.

Drakma wandered aimlessly his paws dragging along the ground, his head lifted upwards towards the sky. He needed a sign, something from his Mother to tell him where to go. He had just been so useless lately, day in and day out walking for no apparent reason. Surely there was something he was meant to do with his life? Something he hadn't quite found just yet? He hated the idea of not knowing, but the thrill of the chase would have to be worth it right? Goodness only knew. As he walked, a sharp wind blew past him, carrying with it an unfamiliar scent. Feminine in nature, but unknown in all other regards.

Intrigued, Drakma allowed his feet to follow the aromatic scent wherever it may take him. Prepared for whatever could await him.

But his worries proved to be in vain, as he further approached he noticed her, alone in every sense of the word. Streaked with the blood of a seemingly fresh kill. He smiled, a little bit of companionship might not be so bad, for however fleeting of a time it may be.

A second shift in the wind brought the male's scent towards her just as it had brought hers to him. Her ear flicked and her tail twitched as she sensed his presence, her head rolling to the side towards where the scent came from. Her stale grey tuft of her fell out of the way, revealing the brown male to her powder blue eyes. A smile crossed Monifa's face and she stretched her paws out as far as they could go before her, claws extending and raking against the rock before she rolled to where she lay on her stomach, now facing the lion as he approached.

"Greetings," she called gently, the wind carrying her soft voice towards him. Wandering was a lonely business, and the lioness would accept companionship in any form, at this point. It seemed that the company she made lasted for little, but each one was just as welcome as the last. Her shoulders rolled as she raised from laying to sitting, her tail waving back and forth lightly behind her before settling into a quaint curl around her pale figure.

He watched with silent apprehension as he came closer, though she didn't seem dangerous one could never be too sure. He'd had to learn that the hard way, and wouldn't dare to make it again. But her welcome soon put his worries mostly to rest and he dipped his head in respect as he walked ever closer. 'Greetings to you as well my fine lady." He smiled his toothy grin, and paused in his tracks realizing her kill was a few steps away from her current position. So as not to cause conflict he chose to sit farther away, proving he wasn't after her dinner in any way shape or form.

"What brings you out to this side of the desert on such an extremely hot day? Surely it isn't the scenery?" He laughed, nodding his head in either direction to prove his point.

"Wandering, I suppose. It seems as thought my paws have their own thoughts on where they wish to be, regardless of the heat or scenery." Monifa looked the lion over and, after she decided that he seemed to be no threat, she dipped her head in a greeting. "My name is Monifa and, please, you should not be wary of intruding. And help yourself, if you wish." With the last sentence, she motioned towards the kill with her head.

She stretched once more before making her way off of the rock and sitting before it, closer to him.
"And yourself? What brings a lion such as yourself here?" She paused a moment before glancing from side to side, eyes drawing slowly across the horizon. "And, you know, the scenery isn't so bad. The evening brings a sort of ethereal grace to an otherwise boring land."

"Ah well then it appears we are two peas in a pod so to speak!" He chuckled a bit roughly at his own dry joke and continued, "My paws seem to have the same thoughts, and I to am here for the reason. Such an odd coincidence wouldn't you say?" He smiled wryly unsure of how to further the conversation. He could be that way sometimes, curious as could be, but nervous beyond words.

At her introduction and offer Drakma snapped out of his thoughts and into reality. "Ah! No thank you, I was able to take down some dinner earlier this evening, but your offer does not go unappreciated - Monifa" He dipped his head in respect to her, and blushed a bit as she drew nearer.

"I must agree with you, the night does hold a certain attraction that the day can not compete with. It's almost magical. All of the insects screeching in harmony, the stars aligned perfectly to guide us home. Quite the sight to behold.

I take it you aren't afraid to be out alone in the dark? I dare say i've come across far too many lionesses unlike you. Its nice to have a change of pace."

"Odd coincidence, indeed." Monifa chuckled, folding her paws daintily before her. She paused in thought at his words, tilting her pale eyes to the sky to where the brightest stars could already be seen. "Afraid of the dark, I am not. Years of this wandering has forced such a fear out of my, it would seem." She smiled at the words, looking to him. And it was true. Though she wasn't the largest and definitely not the strongest of the lioness wandering these plains, a life of wandering—one that started as soon as she could have left her family—made the amount of trust the lioness held for the world perhaps higher than it should have been. "A naïve believe, perhaps. I've heard tales of what the dark can bring." At the words, though, she shrugged.

"And yourself, lion? It is a welcome sight to cross paths with one so kind. Tell me, what is your name?"

"That's quite a feat to be proud of, even the bravest of lions have their fears. Myself included, but I must be thankful that the darkness if not one of them. It would be a shame to miss out on this beauty.." He smiled, looking up towards the sky, seeing the same landscape Monifa had before him.

"Ah but while it is true that the dark can bring some horrid things, it can just as easily bring good. Your dreams, your hopes, your life. If you look in the stars they're all there. What's the saying - when you wish upon a star? Can't exactly wish on the sun now can you?" He winked in Monifa before continuing, "While I appreciate your thought, I again must agree it's a welcome sight to see a friendly face - or a face at all really. Its been days since i've seen another." Drakma tore his eyes away from the sky once more. "So I must thank you for that, more specifically for being a sight for sore eyes." Drakma smiled before turning to nswer her final question.

"Drakma, my name is Drakma. Pleasure to make your company this beautiful evening."

She blinked at his words, taking them into consideration before nodding and smiling. "Wise words indeed, Drakma. And I assure you that the pleasure is mine." Monifa's paws stretched out before her one at a time, claws raking through the dirt, before she glanced back towards him. "These days of wandering bring much loneliness, that is true. They say the time you spend alone is the time in which you find yourself." At that, she laughed lightly. "But too much loneliness does little to warm the soul."

The lioness sighed lightly. Yes, she had spent many days in succession without any company but the gentle winds and the twinkling stars. It was a lifestyle she had grown more than accustomed to, but it didn't make it any less lonesome.
"So if you wish for a traveling companion," she blinked, tilting her head to the side, "for any sort of time, know that your company is welcome."

"Well then it would be a shame for me to take that honor from you." He purred, allowing himself to finally get comfortable. He sat down roughly, causing a cloud of dust to fly up around them. "Sorry!" He grumbled, his tail trying to swish the dust away. Doing little to help the situation.

"Well if anyone could find that statement false, its me. I've traveled alone for quite some time, and I still don't know a thing about myself." He frowned as he became lost in his thoughts for a moment, thinking of his Mom and the time he'd spent following his spiritual direction. "But I imagine it would do the soul good, if the soul could only find what it so desperately wants."

Smiling faintly, Drakma focused his attention on Monifa once more. "That's - that's quite an offer of you. I must have made quite the impression." He laughed nervously, "You must be as tired as I of traveling these lands alone...

I would very much like a companion, for however small a time Monifa"
Drakma smiled, losing his thoughts once more and finding himself staring up into the sky. The stars twinkled brightly, but more brightly than all the rest stood the one he followed every night of his journeys.

Monifa chuckled in response, dropping her head in thought. "Yes, perhaps I am as tired as you." After a pause for thought she raised her gaze towards the lion with a weak smile. "We just seem to be in remarkably similar circumstances. It would be nice to travel with one with such a similar mindset, is all." She flicked her tail, pulling her legs forward and dropping into a lay with her head set between her folded paws. Her eyes drew upwards towards the stars as she curled her tail, twitching the grey tuft at the end through the grass. She smiled warmly. "And… I am glad. Perhaps soul searching with company would draw better results."
