He hadn't gone far from her. If anything were to happen, he could be back by her side in a matter of moments. Still, it seemed too far. From the cover of the trees, Nykto gazed at the distant cave. He could pick out her location solely by her glowing aura; the only thing making her stand out in the night. He could see the faint outline of her dark wings, the blue of her legs, the curve of her swollen stomach. He found himself growling with a sudden possessiveness.
How had things come to this point, he wondered. He'd never expected to one day have a family. But now, he found he would never stand to have it another way. He wanted this; a family, children…her. Her most of all right now. A fierce protectiveness had come over him since he'd found out she would have his children. He couldn't explain it, and didn't care to try. Eydis was more his now than ever.
Tearing his gaze away from her, he set his sights back to the dark woods. He had come here on a mission to find food… for them both. A few apples lay at his feet, which would suffice. It'd have to; the woods had been completely devoid of all other life, and as such, he'd not be able to satisfy his other cravings. His stomach ached from lack of meat, but he wasn't willing to venture deeper into the woods, as that would mean being farther from Eydis. With a sigh, he emerged from the trees and started back to the cave on foot, bringing the the spoils of his hunt with him.
