He was panting this time as he looked for some shade. It was a little too warm for his black fur to handle, so he opted to find some shade near some water. The problem was finding a water place with trees around it. Right now he was tempted to just dig a hole in the ground and lay down there.

Looking around with his brown eyes he frowned and shook his head. No trees around here, but he saw a watering hole up ahead. The grass would surly be cooler near there. Moving quickly, Mamoru laid down in the grass and let his front paws rest in the water. Dipping his head, he drank slowly. The water was warm, but cool enough to sooth the dry, aching in his throat from breathing hot, dry air. Shuffling closer on his belly, he put his front half in the water and sighed, closing his eyes.

"Thank the gods," he mumured, a smile gracing his lips. How the desert dwellers battled the heat, he had no idea. The swamps sounded like a good place because they were surly cooler than out here. "I pray night falls swiftly."

This was a little far, even for Hari! She could not quite recall what she had been doing that had led her so astray, divided from her clan, but the lioness just figured it would be resolved soon enough. She'd be back home by nightfall, and everything would be fine. After all, Bird Clan had only just stopped, and it should be a while before they moved on again.

But the problem with Hari is she really didn't understand urgency or anything of the sort, so even if she'd set the goal to 'get back soon', she managed to distract herself easily. She wandered this way and that, trotting with her head low almost like a jackal trying to sniff out scraps.

She also came upon the watering hole, right about the time Mamoru was settling down. Hari's method of getting a drink was a bit messier than his, however, as she promptly trotted right in. At least the lioness looked perfectly happy when she turned to still water into a mess of small waves, and lowered her head for a drink.

But then a rather unpleasant thought occurred to her and she hurried out, like her tail was on fire. Once safe on the bank, she looked around, and only then did she spot the other lion. "D'you think there're crocodiles in there?" She asked, almost as if they had already been engaged in a conversation.

He had watched the lioness trot into the water like she owened it. Arching a brow as she did, Mamoru tried not to smile as she drank and then let out a low chuckle when she ran out. Well, so much for only getting his top half wet! The waves had splashed him in the face and soaked his head. Not that Mamoru was complaining, of course.

"Crocodiles? Probably not. It doesn't appear to be deep enough for one to live in there comfortably! How would it get here? It's much to far between water sources for them to waddle their way here." He said thoughtfully, nodding a little more. "I'm quite certain that you can continue standing in there and not have to worry about them!"

Standing up, Mamoru shook himself off before looking over at her again. He didn't mind that she'd missed him completely before or even acted like they'd been talking for a while. He'd had worse happen to him as he talked to rogues.

Hari listened to him, looking at the water thoughtfully. When he'd concluded his reasoning, she more or less shrugged then contentedly trotted back into the water. But now she didn't quite seem that interested in drinking, so much as simply standing in the water.

"That's good! I don't wanna be eaten by a crocodile. Do you? Doesn't seem very fun, y'know?" She'd seen other animals being eaten by crocodiles, they didn't appear to be enjoying themselves then. She absently raised a paw, then plopped it back into the water, perhaps only because of the sound it made. "I'm Hari. I forgot about that part. Who're you?"

"I think being eaten by a crocodile would be a horrible thing to happen. It would be painful and probably very stinky." Mamoru had a huge grin on his face as he watched her. He could be silly, but honestly, he was being serious. Crocs had really bad breath, so before the final bite, he would be smelling croc breath. It really did seem unpleasent.

He was wondering when she'd introduce herself. "Hari? I'm Mamoru. Just passing through these parts. Do you often wander into water?" Clearing his throat he stood up and shook himself off. "...You wouldn't happen to know where I am? I'm not heading anywhere, but I like to know where I am.."

"Stinky?" She blinked. "I hadn't thought of that." Crocodiles did probably smell very bad, but even Hari had never attempted to get a good sniff. Maybe she would someday, if one was lying around on the sand. Those were easy enough to get away from, if needed. And besides, she'd never actually seen a lion be attacked by a crocodile.

"Hi Mamoru! Oh. I dunno. Maybe." She supposed this wasn't her first time just walking into water, but could Hari really call it often? That was debatable. "You areeee at a watering hole." She declared, unhelpfully. "Near the Ela'wadiyi lands." She continued, more helpfully. "Nearish, anyways. I dunno how far I wandered off. But that's where I'm from! Now."

Now? She must not originally be from this Ela pride. Interesting. It also occurred to Mamoru that his female was lost. She said she didn't know how far she wandered off and his brows knit in worry at that before shrugging. "Do you need help finding your way back to your pride, Hari? Even if I don't know where it lies, I could help you. Or at leas keep you company. You could even tell me about the pride and why you decided to join it."

He was curious about this pride and about Hari herself. She seemed a bit ... hyper? Dazed and confused? But in a charming sort of way. It was almost cub like. Mamoru just kept offering her that gentle smile as he talked, his tail flicking from side to side. "Or, we could stay here and we can.... lounge about in the water. It is a warm day, after all, isn't it?"

She imitated his worried face, briefly, though she didn't wish to mock. He just made a face, and she decided to imitate it for a bit. Likewise, once he shrugged it off, so did she. "Oh noo, I know where it is. It's that way." Hari neglected to actually indicate a direction, but at least she seemed confident about knowing her way back. She wasn't really a dumb or clueless lioness. Just... flighty. "I guess if you wanna come you can, but I dunno what Skan will say about it." Skan was less nice and patient than his father, Tawa'di. Of course, Hari still adored him and his siblings regardless. They were just little cubs when she met them!

"Yeah, it is warm." She agreed, and sat down. In the water, because she'd yet to bother getting out again. "I do gotta get back before Bird Clan moves again. Because if I miss them I'd have to look for them for a while. But they'll probably stay put for a week."

When she copied his face, Mamoru was momentarily confused. She didn't seem like she meant it mocking or hurtful, so he just pushed it to the back of his head. Then she said that way without actually pointing it out at all, he chuckled and then shrugged a little more. "Skan? Your mate?" He inquired carefully. If she was mated he was going to back off and just give her a gentle push in the right direction to get back home.

"Bird Clan? I thought your pride was the Ela'wadiyi?" Now he was really confused. How could her answering a question cause a hundred more to pop up?"

She couldn't help but laugh at that. And of course, Hari wasn't the sort to try to hide her laughter, so she just happily giggled along at the notion. "Skan? Nooooo, I met him when he was this big!" She indicated with her paw, something that was perhaps exaggeratedly small. "He's the wanidatsi now, imagine that! He's got a mate, and other little cubs." That honestly, weren't even cubs anymore, either.

Hari wasn't the sort to ever wonder at how old she might be perceived as, the passing of time was more of a simple amusement. "Yeah, my pride is Ela'wadiyi. But my clan is Bird Clan! There are clans. A few of them."

She was just throwing out pride terms like he should know them. Chuckling, the spotted male watched her closer and then shrugged a little more. Oh well. He'd help her find her clan in her pride and settle down for the night near them, if they allowed it. Honestly, Mamoru hated sleeping alone, so if he slept next to a group of traveling lions it was better for him. He could feel like part of something rather than alone.

Rolling that idea around in his head, he looked at Hari and just grinned. "I see! That's very interesting. I've heard of.. Ah, what's the term.. factions? Is it kind of like that, these clans? There was a pride a long time ago, that grouped together the brightest lions that I've ever seen and they all lived one pride together, but they all had different spots in the pride. They all lived in different areas. Is it like that? You travel as one pride, but break off from time to time?"

He hoped he wasn't coming off as an idiot to this, but he wasn't born in pride life. Naturally, he was curious to know everything about it because it was drastically different than his own.

A pride of very colorful lions? That sounded pretty interesting! Hari had never heard about them before, but she reasoned she had never heard about a lot of things. "Yeah, I guess it's kinda like that. But sorta the opposite! I mean, about us being together, then splitting. We're usually split up, you know? And sometimes we meet up, for festivals. And just coincidence. But we're all one pride!"

That was one of the things Hari liked about the Ela'wadiyi, that they were moving around so much in their territory. Sure, once you were there long enough you learned to know all the lands, but there was never much of a routine, at least not for her. "But okay, yeah, if you wanna come back with me, I guess we should go. So you can get back! and talk to Skan, so he can let you be around for a bit. Else I'll have to chase you away!" Even Hari could be a little intentionally humorous, and she offered him a grin.

"Chasing me off doesn't sound like much fun for either of us, honestly!" He grinned right back at her and then nodded, sighing. "Let's be off for this male and I'll ask him my questions, hm?"

Mamoru's tone was light and happy now. He could get used to this pride if it was as good as it sounded. Smaller clans in a bigger pride. He could deal with that. Mamoru had a very hard time with huge amounts of lions. Most of the other prides terrified him because they were just one clan, one faction. These sounded like families in families in a pride. It intrigued the naturally curious lion.
