WE ARE HALLOWEEN  Sun Hunter
SHADOW RUN
The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics
You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel.
Simply roll for attack as you would in battle.
If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings.
After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics
This bonus is consumable.
The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.
Trainees: 0 recovery
Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
Hunters: 1 recovery
Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

There was less to clear out day after day, and Cass had taken the time that would be considered 'free' time to get back into her usual rounds - wake up, go running, do some training. Just because she was fighting insanity monsters every day didn't mean she was up to snuff. There was always more she could have been doing. That was something she'd picked up from her big-bro Leon.
She still had training courses she needed to run through again, after all, and she took that time to actually hit one of them up. She'd done a few laps, though her shoulders were feeling stiff. Maybe something easy -kill some shadows, do something like that. She had to pass all of the training courses anyways if she was going to be a good Mist Hunter.
Shoot. She wanted to get promoted to be a real adult soon. Real Hunter. A grown up. Have responsibility. Man, that was a super exciting thought, actually.
Perhaps, however, she would have been better off to actually get her head out of the clouds before she stepped through the portal to head through the run - she nearly tripped over the first Shadowling she came across before they all came over her, engulfing.Status Wave: EPIC FAILAttack Dmg: FAIL OF FAILNESS Total Shadowlings taken out: NOOOPE!! Take 2 She'd been patched up rather efficiently, even if her ability to actually focus on the prize was questionable.
God, she just wanted to get her clearances she should have had already and then work on doing more productive things - like shopping with Candace. That seemed highly productive to her. She'd have to make a note to take the older trainee out with her.
Make plans.
Do fun stuff. Girl bonding? Not quite. Mist Bonding? ******** yeah!
Either way, she was a bit more raring to go when she entered the portal again, stepping in with a wide swing of Nicodemus's blade to clear out any sort of immediate threat she might have had. She could feel the resistance of some shadowy bodies against his blade, but didn't even pause to count as she moved on.

Nicodemus's voice had barely filtered through her senses before she felt something wrap around his blade, and then up her arm. There was a flurry of curses as Cass was pulled into the shadow-y mess, firing into the darkness.

Take 3 Okay, she'd obviously not been prepared for a run through the Shadow Run, and Cass had to take a few minutes to go and run a few more laps, stretch out a bit more. She spent a good amount of time chatting with Nicodemus as he talked with her about various things.
Like the fact she'd pretty much cornered Marcus to talk about marriage. She'd known him for what, a year? A bit over? She regretted nothing, but never the less....
You're sure he's the right match for you?

She'd shot that idea down quickly. Nicodemus had always liked Leon and thought Marcus was too touchy-feely. As it was, Cass liked him that way. She liked the cuddles and all that other stuff too. Just being curled up with him - he was her big strong hero. Now she needed to work on not being such a damsel in distress.
Which meant Cass headed back to the Shadow Run. The sun hunter on watch who had literally been watching her fail all morning passed her a wary look, but she gave them a thumbs up. "I didn't get this far by failing all the time." she smiled before she headed into the portal.

Take 3 Now see? That? THAT felt so much better. Cass continued to push forward - not rushing, but not hesitating to move when she saw enough clear space to move. Nicodemus did his job of being her eyes all around her as she cut through shadows. She put particular effort into using her gun as well - she needed to use it more.
Be a better aim.
Target. Shoot. Bang. bang. The less of these things that got near her, the better she was doing. Conversation with Nicodemus was as it seemed to be 80% of the time - him worrying over her well being. He really was like her personal dad. Too bad he couldn't walk her down the aisle and give her away at her wedding....

She'd kind of gotten lost in the thought and some of the shadowlings drew closer to her than she would have liked, causing her to fire rapidly upon the closest offenders before bringing the blade up swinging afterwards to keep her covered.

Take 3 Nicodemus had to make sure to keep her mind on target when it seemed to stray, shaking her head a bit and tapping her gun on the side of it before she threw herself back into the fray.
She was almost through this. She just needed to stay focused and not get frustrated with it! Then she'd go do something like Princess Island or something. Yeah.

Take 3 She could see the portal out! That was great!
However, there were also more shadows there than anywhere else - goodie. She grimaced as one attempted to wrap around her leg, firing two shots into their face before pushing through. She'd shoot the ones that were a vague threat and slice through the ones that got too close to her...
Which was nice, actually.
It left her open to practically throw herself back through the portal, panting with remnants of shadowlings on her, fading off into nothing as they deteriorated. There.
