Classe are a major part of the Tendaji world. Each character will select a class path during their Prentice journey, and will follow that path throughout their life. Below you will find a list of the classes, by profession, with an overview of their progression. Will your character dedicate their life to the art of healing, or maybe turn their passion for familiars into a focus? Will they hone the blades or work the bow? Make sure to choose carefully, because once your character has selected a class, they will follow it for life.

Table of Contents
Alkidike Battle Classes
Earthling Battle Classes
Non-Battle Classes
Alkidike/Elaria Mystics
Yaeli Priests/Priestesses
Academy Members

For a list of weapons and items that can be used by each class, check out the Armory.
All weapon stats and their requirements for use can be found here.
Note: Once a weapon is chosen, this decides the specific class path and cannot be changed in later stages.

Note on Class Choice!

When picking a class for your character, be sure to think long and hard about it. Once they have grown to Stage 2, they cannot change their choice.

And when choosing a class, look to their weapon also. The weapon your character chooses in Stage 2 will dictate what Stage 4 class they are separated into. (Ex: If you choose to use a hammer, your character will continue to use a hammer through to the Brute class.)

This applies to all classes, physical attackers, magic users, and non-battle classes. If your character wrote their class quest about being a sculptor (or dancer, or minstrel, etc), they will continue to be that through to stage 4. A character may have other hobbies, but they can only have one profession.

To help the staff, please make this clear in the growth form by writing what their stage 4 goal is next to their intended class (Ex: Desired Class: Monk (soul linker))

If you have questions feel free to PM Suhuba or post in the FAQ or main thread.

Alkidike & Elaria Mystics Class

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Every so often, perhaps 30 or so years, a mystic is born. Mystics are born from a lotus like all other Alkidike/Elaria, but are known to give off a small aura that sets them apart from the other lotus flowers around them. The current mystic of the sisterhood was taught by her predecessor on what to expect from a mystic lotus. The appearance of the lotus is the same, but with the given aura of the flower it is watched over and cared for carefully until bloom. The mystics, while most look exactly the same as normal Alkdike/Elaria women, are known to sometimes be born with lighter markings, a sign of their potential to become in tune with the Great Mother.

Mystics are taught at a young age to speak three languages: the common language of Tendaji (that everyone speaks), the language of the trees (which only Alkidike/Elaria know), and the language of the ancestors (known only to the mystics born into Tendaji). The Language of the Ancestors is a deeply rooted language used when performing rituals and addressing the Great Mother and is something of a very close secret. Even the elders of the Alkidike/Elaria do not know how to speak it and rarely anyone will hear it aloud. It is one of the main studies of the mystic in training from a young age and is mastered around the age of 6 (it is one of their only studies until learned properly).

From the point that the mystic learns to speak the Language of the Ancestors, they sit in on the current mystic’s rituals and duties and watch. When they reach their prentice age, typically 13-16, they will begin to join in on the rituals in small ways until they eventually participate more and more and handle it themselves.

Along with handling rituals, mystics learn to use magic in battle as well, such as water, fire, air, etc. They can choose to focus more on damaging or healing spells, though they learn to use some form of them all.

The mystic’s job duties include caring for lotus flowers, ‘birthing’ new sisters from the lotus, preparing the child to be received by the mother(s) (which includes checking the child for health, cleaning her, and swaddling her), speaking with the Great Mother and the ancestors/fates when the species face some sort of difficult time (doesn't happen often, but includes famine, war, natural disasters, etc.), sitting in on council meetings as the Voice of Aisha/Elzira, and becoming a council for sisters that require it (such as leading them to the Great Mother to plead for children, acting as medic for the sisters, and finding homes for children who have no family to go to).

Alkidike & Elaria Mystic FAQ

How can I get a Mystic?
They are event only characters, so you would need to win one during a shop-run event. There is no way for a character to become a Mystic outside of this process.

When will another Mystic become available?
When a mystic reaches around 30-40 years of age, a new lotus will begin to bloom with a replacement mystic and the cycle will begin again. There is a point of time when there will be two mystics on the island, sometimes even three. When there are three, typically the oldest has already stepped down from position and will live her days as an elder and Matron of the Alkidike. Two Alkidike mystics are uncommon, but not unheard of.

What weapons do mystics have?
Mystics choose from a unique set of weapons, that allow them to access their magic powers. You can find these weapons in The Armory.

Is getting permission to start a family as a mystic something you have to get permission from staff, or is it part of their breeding reqs IC?
The breeding is a solo granting permission from the current mystic/matron. The reason for this is the joining of a couple is seen as a long term commitment and often doesn't happen with the mystic. They don't often find time to establish relationships when they are so focused on their role in their society.

Would their children be a mystic?
Mystics are not born from any Alkidike/Elaria, but an unasked gift from the Great Mother. Therefore, they would never be bloomed from a request of one/two parents.

If a Mystic breaks a rule or strays from current expectations (like breeding with an Earthling or welcoming hybrids) what would happen?
Although mystics are seen as the highest member of the sisterhood, the sisters still believe the mystic should follow their ways. As a result, the sisterhood could lose faith in a mystic and essentially banish her from the island and her duties. If they feel she has strayed or does not represent their ways, they will not allow her to lead them. This could occur if a mystic decides to breed with an Earthling (who they see as beneath them) or attempts to lead them down a path that does not logically follow their culture/history.

Yaeli Priest Class

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

These children show signs, as the yaeli see them. These signs are behavioral, typically something that the child does in habit and can't seem to help themselves from doing. (The closest comparison is modern earth's OCD.)

When a child is small, usually between the ages of 5-8, their signs develop, tipping off parents and the community to the notion that the child may be special. When this happens, parents usually take their children to the Sanctum for testing of their Habits, or a priest or priestess may come to them if the situation calls for it. Being seen as Chosen is a praised and coveted thing. Even though a parent may not see their child again, the honor of having a child Chosen by the Gods is something to carry with their family as a source of pride. Many parents bring their children to the Sanctum with false signs just in the hopes that they may see something more special with their son/daughter.

When a child is chosen, they start their training as a priest/priestess of Yael. Until the age of 18 they are taught and trained in the ways of the Sanctum and study not only the history of their people, but the duties they are to oversee and the way of life they are preparing themselves for. Once they are 18 (stage 2 for a character), they become pledged to the Sanctum, their position within the Sanctum having grown drastically.

These priests and priestesses learn to give the proper blessings for the proper god and occasion, and once considered properly mastered will complete missions within the island of Yael to help bless the people and pray for those who require assistance. One of the topics studied also includes sermons to the people to provide them with insight into the workings of the Gods.

The daily life of a priest/ess consists of regular prayer, with rituals to the God at sunrise and to the Goddess at sunset. If they show particular promise, they could be sent by the Sanctum to preside over a smaller church in the other cities and villages of Yael.

Yaeli Priest FAQ

How can I get a Priest/Priestess?
They are event only characters, so you would need to win one during a shop-run event. There is no way for a character to become a Priest or Priestess, even if they follow a different class path.

Can priests have weapons?
They are special non-battle classes so they don't fight (so no weapons).

Do Yaeli priests and priestesses ever learn magic in their communication with the gods?
Yaeli priests don't learn magic, they're like our priests today. Devout to the gods, spreading the word and counseling, etc. Some would even go as far as to frown upon magic, thinking it interferes with the natural hand of the Gods.

Since priests are not battle classes, how do they defend themselves?
Priests are revered by the Yaeli so no one would hurt them. They wouldn't really need protecting. The Sanctum would not require anyone to have a body guard, since the people of Yael pose no threat to them. The Sanctum, therefore, would not have a guard or paladin group because of this.

Can priests change their looks/clothes and to what degree?
They have to have a priest feel, but their clothing can change. The markers of their outfits that cannot change is their waist sash and their beads hung from the sash.

What are the Signs the people of Yaeli recognize as being Chosen?
Signs show themselves as things like having to enter a door so many times before they can pass through, or having to arrange all of their belongings to be directly facing the bed, and many many more strange things. These Chosen, if they don't obey the habit they have been given by the Gods, feel unclear and filthy from the inside until they are able to "atone" for resisting for so long.

The signs are almost always behavioral though, and not something that would physically manifest on a Yaeli.

Is getting permission to start a family as a priest something you have to get permission from staff, or is it part of their breeding reqs IC?
The breeding is a solo granting permission from the sanctum. The reason for this is the joining of a couple is seen as almost holy and is a long term commitment. They don't believe in splitting up from their partners.

Would their children be priests/priestesses?
All priests are strictly chosen based on the idea of being touched by the gods so their children would not be priests if breeding. They are strictly contest only classes.

If a Sanctum rule is broken what would be their punishment?
There wouldn't be many who would break rules, since the Sanctum is the only life they've known since childhood, but if a rule were broken it would be like penance. They would have to become clean again in the eyes of the Gods so they would pull extra chores, say more prayers, pull extra duties basically until they've atoned.

To conceive a child, would priests/priestesses need to receive a blessing or sign from the Gods, like the Alkidike pray to Aisha?
They would not need to pray/pleed like the Alkidike. The wedding, or acceptance of the spouse would be the part needing a blessing from the Sanctum, but the children would be seen as a gift from the Gods. Like a sign that their marriage is blessed.

What are the burial rituals like for priests?
When a priest/priestess dies, they would be placed in a tomb in catacombs. The more renowned priests might even get en memoriam statues to remember them by beside their tombs if their contributions to the Gods were great enough.

How do the priests and priestesses deal with money? Do they get paid, or do they have allowances? Is everything paid for?
The Sanctum runs on a combination of donations from the people of Yael, and the offering of paid services such as blessing a home, or things of that nature. The priests and priestesses within the Sanctum receive an allowance from this that they can use on things they might want, but their basics and necessities are provided by the Sanctum itself.

Do the priests do any work?
There would be others to cook and clean for them on a regular basis, they would be responsible for things only if they were making penance for the most part.

Where can I learn more about the Sanctum?
You can learn more about the Sanctum in our official shop FAQ.

Academy Member Class

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

The Belrean Earthlings have placed technology and knowledge on the highest of pedestals, focusing on knowledge growth as the utmost priority for their society. In their mind, technology is the foundation for nourishment, growth, and safety for their society, and thus it is the highest form of government. They feel that by improving technology, they can in turn improve society. They are the most technologically advanced race of any in Tendaji.

As a result of their drive, they have established the Academy of Steam, where the brightest minds gather together to discuss current needs and assign sectors for those roles. Anyone who has made a grand impact on society will most likely be extended an invitation to join the academy based on approval from the current members. Always, there is at least one member from each sector represented in the academy and only Lightning and Geian Earthlings will be extended an invitation.

Once an Earthling has received their invitation around the age of 16, they will be welcomed to the inner halls of the Academy to live and study with fellow members. They are permitted to leave, but the work they do within the chambers cannot be removed nor shared with members outside of the Academy. It is only the leaders who will determine when the information they have gathered can be 'presented' to the general population. Often, this will occur in a lecture made by the most seasoned and top minds of each sector.

Academy Members will also have a personal project they will work on, one grand enough to take a lifetime. This project may be an effort to improve the lifestyle of those around them, or a project that they eventually will lead development of. This study will be determined once they enter the Academy, and mentors will assist as needed.

The daily life of an Academy Member is a majority of study and lecture, working together to gather minds and improve the world around them. Outsiders are not permitted inside, but members are welcome to go outside and meet others as long as they finish their study and ensure they do not reveal information when they are gone.

Academy Member FAQ

How can I get an Academy Member?
They are event only characters, so you would need to win one during a shop-run event. There is no way for a character to become an Academy Member without going through this process.

Why do Academy Members have different titles than the other unique characters?
Academy Members can be any class available to the individual, as they represent the elite knowledge members of their society. This means they could be a Beast Master, Blacksmith, Bard, or any available class (outside of Alkidike).

Can hybrids be Academy Members?
It is rare to see a hybrid become an Academy Member, as they often are split between two different sectors because of their parents. However,
there are a rare few who are within the Academy that are hybrids of the Geian and Lightning race. Any hybrid with a non-Belrean background will never have the opportunity to join the Academy.

So outside of their Academy title, is there anything else special about these characters?
Well, they do get access to the inner workings of the Academy of Steam. But outside of that, each Academy Member has a uniform of sorts in the form of a jacket. The jacket has a specific style that helps one identify them as a member, and no one in Belrea is allowed to match this style if they are not in the Academy. Additionally, each jacket has the Academy emblem on it, in the unique sector color the member is part of.

Can we customize the jacket?
To an extent, you are allowed to customize the jacket. However, please work with staff to ensure that you still keep to the specific style of an Academy Member. Specifically, Academy Members always have black jackets, with the same collar that has a pin on the left side, buttons down the front, and a larger symbol in the back.

How are Academy Members selected?
The Academy of Steam is always looking for potential new members, and often will seek out those with dedication above and beyond the normal Belrean. This might showcase in advanced work, research, or extended discovery; however what they look for most is potential. Once they identify someone with the potential to thrive in the Academy, they will deliver them an invitational letter to join the ranks.

Can someone refuse? What happens if they do?
Although not normal, someone can refuse to join the Academy. It is a life-long commitment to study, and it's understandable if one might not want to join in. The Academy will not pursue someone who refuses; an invitation is a one-time thing. If someone refuses, they will not be invited again, and will miss their opportunity to join the Academy.

What happens if someone doesn't like it and wishes to leave?
Unfortunately, Academy Members who are won cannot leave the Academy for any reason. The Academy promotes ethical research and is an ideal location for any passionate Belrean. They were raised seeing the Academy as the top tier location for study, and anyone who joins is treated with respect and sees it as an honor. Anyone who wins an Academy Member cannot have a quest that involves leaving the Academy.

Where can I learn more about the Academy of Steam?
