"This Earth, could never stand on its own, it takes us all to make it grow."

Luther's life was very different from other humans, different since the day he was born. Unexpectedly, they came and took him away almost without a trace. In the dead of night the creatures came, they hid in the shadows, taking the new born child from his planet. Unlike the ignorant human belief, the creatures did not take the child to probe him, conduct experiments, or cut him open; the creatures wanted to raise one of these complex confusing beings. Luther just so happened to be that child, they fed and played with the boy, treating him as their own offspring. The boy got everything he ever needed, the extraterrestrials were very kind and intelligent beings. They knew they wouldn't be able tto keep their darling Luther forever, they'd return him to earth on the twenty-first anniversary of his adoption. Today was that day.

Luther walked along the halls of the spaceship, gripping to a photo of him and his family. Many thoughts troubled his mind. How could he ever adapt to this new world? What would it be like? Is war all over? Is there sickness or famine? What would the other humans even be like? The man didn't want to go to his home planet, he wasn't even sure why he had to. He loved his home, even though the creatures were different than him, it was all he had ever known. As he gave a heavy sigh his father came up from behind him. "Luther, we are close to the planet, you should look. It is one of the most beautiful sights, you wont be able to see it like this again for a very long time." Reginsile spoke softly taking his son by the shoulder guiding him to the window to look upon earth. Luther gazed at the planet indifferent to its beauty, gripping his father's hand.

"Father, I will miss you. Why must I go? It may be where I am from but it is not my home." Sorrow hung heavy in his words, not even able to look up at his father, whom towered over him at seven and a half feet. "It is your duty to your people Luther, to us and to your species, to your planet. We taught you our ways, our values and beliefs. We want you to share those with your planet. Twenty-one years ago I didn't think it'd be so hard to let you go. You are my son, no mater what planet you came from I raised you since the day you were born. You will get to come back one day, I promise." These words eased the male's mind, knowing he would return one day. His mother and sister could not make the trip to drop him off on Earth, but letters from them sat in his pokets. The captain came to inform Luther it was time for his departure, hiss eyes welled with tears, he held his father for what seemed like forever. "Stay strong my dearest Luther." He whispered before Luther walked away, and made his way to earth.

3 months later

Luther had been given a degree in astronomy by his extraterrestrial family, also putting in data to earths records. Making it seem like Luther had never left, the man found a job quite easily in a research base. This planet was so different than his, all of their ideals and values confused him quite a bit, and then to top it off there was a coworker that made his existence a living hell. All they did was argue, over anything and everything. Today Luther was especially on edge, today was three months since he had left his home, little did he know the whole base was on the tail of discovering his people. Luther begrudgingly awoke, and made his way to work.

The man took his normal seat sitting in front of the screens for the mars land rovers, a project mostly forgotten about but it paid enough money to sit and do nothing. He sipped his coffee knowing his arch enemy would be here any minute. "I hope he isn't too much a pain in the a** today. He is more trouble than his looks are worth." He mumbled, there was no denying the scientist was attractive, if science didn't work out for the man any more he could easily become a model. Luther thought to himself and chuckled thinking of the other as a model.

For some reason Victor had always interested in space. Even to the point he'd dream about being in space while watching episodes of Star Trek. Any attempt his father made to have him into something else usually failed. He used to spend endless hours just gazing at the stars above.

Ever since he devoted much of his waking ours to the study of space, or any other science that can be connected to space. It was thanks to that endless study that he got a scholarship to a good collage, and got a job in which he might help make space travel possible.... However...

Victor couldn't stand the person he was paired up with. He swore that Luther is intent of making him look like a complete idiot to his bosses. Before he actually entered the lab he had his hands clenched. He took a deep breath to calm himself down. There was no point to get himself worked up over nothing.. His expression became cold, and uncaring as he entered the room.

Victor glanced at the screens at his station before he pulled an energy drink from his bag. He opened the can, and took a few sips. He vaguely wondered about the possibility of terra-forming Venus. However, that would be very unlikely due to the deadly gasses in the atmosphere. Between Venus, and Mars the best bet would be Mars.

[I hope I did well.]

"This Earth, could never stand on its own, it takes us all to make it grow."

Luther gritted his teeth a little when Victor walked in, it seemed as though his presence was all it took to irritate him now. He thought he was so smart, all of these humans at the base did, they knew nothing of humility or modesty. They also strived for discoveries on their own, that was something Luther truly couldn't stand, sole credit for any headway in new knowledge. On Quantar the planet he was raised on they all took credit and really it didn't mater the whole planet was just pleased to have new information.

When Victor poped the top on his energy drink Luther cringed. There was hardly anything on the planet that the man would eat, the thought of hoards of humans processing and making foods unnatural to the earth made him sick to his stomach. Coffee, tea, water, and juice we're the only things he would drink; only eating organic foods. The team always teased him for it. The male bit his lip watching the winds on mars, the poor earthlings wasted their time on this planet, bacteria was all that existed on this planet, all that ever had. He took another sip of his coffee, glancing over at Victor and his screens. "Victor, do you ever wonder why we spend all this time on mars? I mean it has been years and all we've ever found is single cell organisms. Seems like we should start on another planet, or do you think they're just afraid of finding something intelligent?" He asked trying to make conversation, he'd rather talk than sit and think about his family on Quantar.

Victor thought about it for a moment. As he sipped the energy drink. "I can't say for sure what the big deal is. I'm just think they all got excited about the possibility of humans being able to live there since it does have resources. Other than that I don't see the big deal. If anything I think Venus would be a much interesting place to look at.... Even with all the deadly gases..."

As Victor spoke he did sound a little tired. Probably why he is obsessed with energy drinks, or an effect of the obsession. "Though I have to admit that I do think that some people might not want to admit that humans aren't the only intelligent race... such stupidity. There is no way that only Earth can support life...." he went on.

Victor usually kept his thoughts to himself on subjects like this. Co-workers usually didn't like to listen to him talk about stuff like this.. And they called themselves scientist? Then again, people can be both arrogant, and ignorant.

"This Earth, could never stand on its own, it takes us all to make it grow."

Luther listened quite surprised with Victor's response. "For once I agree with you Victor, that's a rare occurrence." He chuckled taking another sip of his drink. Leaning back in his chair putting his feet on the edge of the desk. Giving a heavy sigh just watching the red planet almost in a daze. He assumed Victor was much too tired to argue and once the sugar and caffeine got in his blood stream he'd be at his throat.

"Who'd want to live on mars anyway? If we spent more time on space crafts than planets we could live there and not have to find a new home planet for centuries. And really when you think about it if the sun dies why are we wasting our time in the same solar system? We should look towards the solar system around Proxima Centauri." Proxima Cntauri was the closest known solar system to earth, just made more sense. This was one of the many things that confused Luther about humans.

The thought of how advanced Quantar was compared to earth, it felt like he was living in the past. It seemed like they didn't even think, just in a little fish bowl only looking around them not beyond. He gave another sigh, he was starting to miss his family, he never thought it'd be this difficult still. "I swear it seems like science is all done in vain." The man mumbled, just then one of the bosses came in. "Fellows you aren't yelling this morning? Well what a pleasant surprise. News we are shutting this program down. We aren't finding anything but we just found something in the sky records, three months ago something strange happened. Absolutely wasn't anything military we already went through that. Your job find out what this is track it down." The boss slapped the folders on the desk and switched the computers to show the sky records, replaying the footage of the craft coming into view and back out.

Luther's eyes got wide and his throat tight, that was his ship, those were his people! The boss patted him on the back. "Amazing isn't it? We've been so close for a long time, but this time I think we will really catch aliens! Get to work boys." He said and left the room, Luther knew he couldn't let this discovery go through. He knew the earthlings would try to kill them, they were too narrow minded to even try to speak to them, question if they were harmless. He just sat there staring at the computers.

As Victor looked over the data that their boss have brought them he couldn't help to be excited. Just the thought in that there were other intelligent species got his heart racing, and the caffeine going though his system faster. He couldn't help but smiling. However on the outside he would probably look quite insane right now.

Even the thought of possible cooperation with other species got Victor excited. But then again that's assuming they didn't want to kill all humans. But if they wanted a war then they probably would have attacked them by now.

"Well, things have gotten quite.... interesting... probably gonna be more exciting than Mars, that's for sure..." Victor commented. He was actually quite surprised they were at each other fighting like usual. Well, might as well enjoy the moment of peace.

"This Earth, could never stand on its own, it takes us all to make it grow."

Luther crossed his arms and a scowl fromed on his face. "This is a bad idea, I don't like it. What if they don't want to be found? What if they were just observing? I don't think the world is ready for this." He bellowed, his nerves were getting the best of him, he'd have to do everything to make sure Quantarians wouldn't be discovered, the world would be in peril. He knew the fighting would start here, that was a good start, stall them all day make no headway.

"If they wanted to be found they would have said something, even if they're peaceful beings the earth is not, the Russians the Germans hell the North Koreans would probably declare war on them. Think of the religious people! Think of what those people will do in the name of their god! This is trouble and sometimes we should leave it alone. I'm not afraid for us. . . I'm afraid for them, those other creatures out there." He had gotten up now stomping looking at the data, what if they found him too? He was tied to all of this as well. He growled enraged with the whole situation.

Victor grew annoyed listening to the other ranting. He tried his best to remain calm. But it became difficult. Even though he had mentioned some good valid points. He didn't like how he seemed to have stomped all over his dreams just like that. It was the one dream that kept him going, and yet this... person just had to destroy it.

Victor let out a sigh, having relying on energy drinks for so long he seems to burn out quicker than he used to. But then again when was the last time he actually slept? He couldn't even remember sleeping even once during the last two weeks now that he thought of it.

"Only a dream... " he muttered. All the same there was no way he was going to give up on that dream. It was too depressing to think that the human race couldn't get along with each other yet alone those from other planets."Plus... they might be..." he began before his eyes began to become heavy, and closed. Exhaustion, and lack of sleep finally took its toll before he could finish the sentence.

"This Earth, could never stand on its own, it takes us all to make it grow."

Luther rolled his eyes, he was ready for the fight but looked over at Victor sleeping. He huffed rolling his eyes once more. "Worthless sometimes, I swear if he didn't consume that s**t he might actually stay awake for once." The male mumbled to himself, skimming through the files finding anything they might have on him. No one could know where he came from, he took all the papers that indicated someone came to the surface of the earth and began to shread them.

His throat was still tight, today wasn't his day. "I wish youu were here father, you'd know what to do." The man whispered to himself standing next to the shredder. When he finished he reached in his lab coat pocket pulling out the letter from his mother. Biting his lip he read the letter to himself.

Dearest Luther,

My darling son, I've loved you since the day Reginsile brought you home that day so long ago. You were unlike any other creature I had ever seen, such a charming boy. I know you have to leave, and none of us ever expected you to clench our hearts so tightly. My world wont be the same without you, I only hope I get to see you again one day, for you to come home. The earthlings are much different than we are, be patient with them. I love you so much I couldn't say it enough times.

I remember when you were young, and we'd play in the meteor fields. You and your sister played hide and seek, and tag. How little you were, it was almost unbelievable something so tiny could exists. Your mission will be over in a few years and you can return home, My dearest Luther I will think of you every day until you return. Keep me in your heart and in your mind. Make me proud.

Love
Mommy

Luther smiled wiping away a tear knowing he had to protect her, It wasn't about Quantar it was about his family. No one would threaten their exsistance, not when he had a breath to spare to save them.

Victor was in a dream. Nothing too usual for him. He sat on a bed looking down on Earth from a space station. It really was a nice view. Even though he knew well enough that he'd only see it from a dream. He sighed with a bit of melancholy, "It would be nice if I could see if... for real"

"As if that would happen" called out a failure voice, with a cold voice. "An idiot like you would never get to see a view like this, even in a thousand years.... All of that study you did amounts to nothing in the end" the voice went on. "You were in the company longer yet I still surpass you... You are sure to be kicked out. Because you are such a moron!"

Victor had a painful expression as what would normally would have been a nice dream gets turned into a nightmare. I'm not a... he muttered as he slept.

"Yes you are... Your the moron that makes the human race as a whole a bunch of idiots! As if any aliens would be friends with you... I bet they would kill you on sight because your so stupid. Your so stupid your parents don't even love you...

Victor's eyes opened. It was difficult to keep them open. But he didn't want to sleep again. He grabbed the can which is probably still half full and tossed it in the trash can before starting to look over the files again. Sure they might have shown up three months ago. But he doubt they were still around... As if anyone, or anything with advanced technology would have much interest in humans anyway.
