{ HUMAN ASPECT } : Name : Lorena Hart: Age : roughly 22 seasons (who's counting?): Occupation : Farmer's daughter (also a spinster): Appearance : Lorena is a short enough to notice, even by the standards of farmer. Her wiry build is nothing but muscle from a life of labor. Her hair is brown with those natural highlights only the sun can administer, thick and wavy. She keeps it in a loose braid down her back, complete with some of those wispy strands that form a slight halo around her face. Her skin is more of a soft cream from the gentle caress of being outdoors most days of her life. There is always dirt present under her nails, no matter how hard she tries to scrub it all away. Her most noticeable feature is her emerald green eyes, which often crease into a smile.: Home : Patronal farmstead (very small) about 2 days ride on the Highroad, North of Palisade near the Wardwood: Parents : Lyle Hart and Lucy (deceased): Prized Posession : Tarnished heart locket, inherited from her mother's side - doesn't seem to open.: Personality : Lorena is open-minded, a condition groomed from years of stories and parental love. She has no real ambition to marry, although she has nothing against men or the idea of the concept. She enjoys the outdoors and could not imagine living in the city for any given amount of time. Her jaunts to the market to sell their products is more than enough, and she cannot wait to get home. However, the exciting new things she sees in town only does more to spark her curiosity. Her aunt and uncle (on her mother's side) live in Palisade and so it is not uncommon to see her there. She believes that there is something in the Wardwood but has no proof - other than the way the hair on the back of her neck sticks up sometimes.
Lorena, while stubborn, is not a trend-setting, socially defiant woman. She knows her place in a society where women are supposed to be seen and not heard. Her father is the only man she can manipulate into getting exactly what she wants, and her uncle more so tolerates her spirited nature and figures she will settle down when she finds the right man (which he is always too happy to help her in such a quest).: History : The only child of Lyle and Louise, Lorena was spoiled as a child. Her parents were poor farmers, living off the land and what meager crowns they could get from selling whatever extra they had, and so her parents gave her nothing but love and self-made wares instead of the popular clothes and trinkets. Lucky for them, Lorena could not have been happier. She entertained herself with chasing chicken, pulling carrots from the ground, picking berries from the nearby woods, and clinging to her mother's skirts as they braved the Wardwood for precious herbs and mushrooms. Of course, they always left tithings, for her mother was more than superstitious and made sure Lorena knew better than to leave anything to chance when it came to the mysterious woods. The young child didn't know what to fear, but she thought she felt eyes on her whenever they went deeper in. Her mother always knew the way out. It wasn't until she was much older that she would take such ventures on her own, but she always made sure trace her steps carefully and never stayed past sunset.
Lorena learned from her mother and her father. Her father taught her how to read the signs for growing and harvest, watch the cattle to know when rain was coming, how to take a hen's eggs without being pecked raw, and how to haggle a price for what they sold. He didn't have the help needed to have the farmstead at its fullest, but they always had enough food on the table and a warm fire to tend. Unlike her mother, Lyle never stepped foot into the Wardwood. He thought the place was evil and always sat on the bench that looked towards the trees whenever his girls were out there, whittling away at some wood -which would ironically be originating from the wood as that is where Lucy would gather it for them.
When she was reaching puberty, Lorena's mother got sick and they were unable to save her. At the time, there was a boy from another small landowner's son that she was interested in - but the death of her mother was more than Lorena could handle. She felt it was her duty to be with her father and his small farm, and not deal with the idea of marriage and courtship. Lyle would not force his only child into a marriage - even if it would mean living an easier life with more hands to help and maybe some extra crowns to pay laborers.
More seasons passed, and it became evident that Lorena was content in staying with her father. Many whispered, but she didn't care. She had not found a man worthy of her familial farm (although her father worries what will happen when he dies and Lorena doesn't have a man to protect her and the farm). And so, this stubborn woman worked the land, tended the animals, and traded with the Wardwood for what they could not grow, make, or pay for with the coin she bartered for in Palisade.
