Zander had been feeling a strong need to leave town, and head out into the unpopulated lands of the island. Something was pulling at him and he couldn't put his finger on it. Out on the road, by himself, he had a lot of time to think, and the thought that kept coming to mind was that of the Azrein. He'd never had occasion to meet one in person, but he had often seen them from afar, their Chosen riding upon their backs. Some with wings, others with horns, and he wondered if it would ever be his luck to be chosen by one. He had no idea how an Azrein chose its bonded, as their human partners were called. Perhaps that was what was pulling him out, away from the city.
As the sun shone down upon him, he spotted a lone figure ahead of him on the road. Not exactly sure he wanted company, he kept his distance for a while, but his solitude got the better of him, and he hastened his pace to catch up.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ She sighed as she dropped her pack to the ground and sat on the dusty road. She pulled her bag closer to her and started digging into it as if she were looking for something. As if the answer to this little mystery could be found within the contents.
She pulled out several items, most of them covered in doodles of Azerin of all sorts. Most of the time she hadn't been aware she was even doodling lthem. With another sigh, and a puff of her cheeks, she looks up, and decides to look around and decided to look around and sees see's the guy coming down the road from behind her.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Argh! Why… Oh why… are there never any for me… None of these wonderful stallions or mares ever wanted to Bond with me… Always, always, sorry, you're too… strange-smelling… You're too shrill when you shout… Never even a remote chance…" I sigh, calming slowly, and then allow my pale golden orbs to travel around the area, reaching up with my tanned hands to run them through my long, pure white hair, breathing deeply, and then starting to focus on the road ahead… there was a person ahead, not too far… I grin to myself as I saunter over, grinning. "Hullo, there! What are you looking for?"~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bella hefted her bag back onto her back as she stood to continue walking. She didn't know what she was doing or where she was going, but she had been taught to follow her instincts. And they were taking her down this road for whatever reason. Not long after she continued her walk, she saw figures in the distance. Three of them, in fact. But what were they doing?
With a shrug of her shoulder, she quickened her step. Soon she could make out the crossroads ahead and she could hear a man's voice ringing out to speak to another woman already at the crossroads.
She wondered if perhaps these three were friends and her showing up would intrude. Then again...did she really care? She'd been walking for a very long time and the solitude was starting to wear on her. It would be nice to be around people again, if only for a short time.I need to know if this thread is finished or ongoing. If finished let me know, thanks, Akira.

Zander could see that the girl had noticed his approach. Before he could reach her though, two more people came into view, all headed toward each other. By the time he got to where the two roads crossed, they had all pretty much arrived at the same time. There was another man, as well as a woman, but it was the man that Zander now addressed.
"Greetings. I am not entirely sure what it is I am looking for, but I believe it has something to do with the Azrein."
Then he turned his attention to the other two and greeted them as well.
"My name is Zander ladies, and I would be pleased to make your acquaintence."

Hex remains sitting, looking up at the man, and the others, squinching her blue eyes against the sun. She shakes her head to move her brown bangs out of her eyes. "Azerin? Oh, that's why," she mumbles to herself and digs out another book and pencil and starts scribbling something down before snapping the book shut. She stuffs it all the stuff littering the ground around her back into her pack.
Leaving the pack, that has obvioulsly seen better times, on the ground, she stands up and wipes the dust from her butt. "Hai!," she states loudly, thrusting out her hand to Zander, "I'm Hex. Who are you?" She looks at the other two, offering them a hand as well.

I smile as I move closer, spying another female, and then offering her a wolfish grin, before studying the male, quirking an eyebrow. I'd been talking to the girl, but answered by the man. Oh well, may as well greet them all as well... I sigh, and then move to offer the other female a hand, gently. "Well met, and have the roads risen to meet you, traveler?" I ask, softly; she looks a little tired.

Smiling as she approached, Bellatrix put her hands on her hips. "Merry meet, fellows," she said, her fuchsia eyes sparkling as she looked them over. "Name's Bellatrix, but you can just call me Bella," she offered, her accent thick and lilting. She'd been talking to all of them, meeting their eyes in turn.
Turning her oddly colored eyes to Zander's direction, she smiled. "Azrein, eh? I've been meaning to learn more about them...perhaps we have been brought together for a reason?" It would be just like her Goddess to bring four such strangers together only to bind them to her creatures.

Zander smiled back at the woman. She reminded him of his wife, Rhia. She would stand with her hands on her hips whenever she was scolding him about something he had done, or forgotten to do.
"Well met Bellatrix, Hex, and I don't believe I caught your name," he says to the man.
Four travelers, meeting like this at a crossroads didn't happen every day, not this far from civilization. It must be some sort of omen or fate. He was interested in what these other travelers were out here for.
"I wonder, are we all on a quest for the same thing? Until recently, I had no idea what it was I was searching for, but now I am fairly sure. I don't suppose any of you know where one might have the best luck of crossing paths with one of the blessed ones?"

"So, does anyone else think that this is the spot we are supposed to be? I don't feel the urge to go anywhere," she chimes in. "I mean, it is kind of an odd place to wait, but, it is getting late. Probably close to my bed time. . . ." Her voice trailes off as if unsure what else to say.
She sat back down on the dusty road, crossing her legs. She stifles a yawn before saying, "And did anyone bring something to eat? I didn't think I'd be gone so long." She folds her hands over her rumbling stomach.

"Huh... well, I suppose so... oh, kid, you're hungry?" I ask softly, replying to her question as I pull out a few parcels of meat, and a big bundle of kindling from another pocket. "Anybody have stones to make a fire pit?" I ask, glancing around, shrugging out of my heavy pack, and putting the meat and kindling on top of a small blanket, which was rolled up on top.

Bella shook her head. "Not the slightest," she answered Zander. Turning to the younger girl, she smiled. "Hungry, child? I've some bread and cheese here, if ya like. I've enough for everyone while the meat cooks." Sliding her pack to the ground, she bent and pulled out a bundle, unwrapping it and handing a piece of bread and a chunk of cheese to Hex. Looking up, she nodded. "Aye, it is starting to get dark, isn't it?"
She shook her head as the as yet unnamed man asked for stones. "Stones, no, but I think a cooking fire might do, since it's been fairly warm these last nights." Kneeling, she pulled her own blankets from the pack she'd carried and sat upon them.

Zander found some stones lying around, and made the fire circle while the others pulled blankets and gear from their packs. Since it was getting dark, they all agreed that it would be safest for all concerned if they spent the night together, there at the crossroads. Once they had all had their fill of food, and the fire had been banked, he offered to take first watch, and allow the others to sleep first.
The moon had risen above the surrounding trees, and Zander was having a hard time keeping his eyes open. He couldn't account for this sudden sense of fatigue, and before long, he too was fast asleep on the ground.
Zander didn't dream. He never dreamed as a child, and he never dreamed as an adult. So when he suddenly found himself floating amidst a sea of shining lights, he was rather surprised. Not one to let his emotions over take him, he calmly righted himself, and looked around. What was strange was that the others were also here with him. Each of them floating in the exact place they had gone to sleep. As he watched, he could see each one starting to stir. It was then he noticed the sound of thunder.

She ate the meal with the usual gusto of any kid who was really hungry. "Mm. Thanks." She sat back against her back pack, her hands on her fully tummy. She yawned again and settled down, comfortable in her hooded sweater and over sized pants.
She was asleep within minutes. She hadn't realized just how tired she was. Must have been the walking.
It was strange how one minute she was on a rocky surface, and then suddenly, she wasn't. "Huh. What's this?" She asks herself. She peeks one eye open to see herself surrounded by stars. Not just over head, but all around. "Whoa!"
She somersaults in place, giggling. Then she hears the approaching thunder and looks around herself for the first time, noticing the others as well. "This is too weird."

I had dozed off fairly quickly, lying on my belly, and smiling gently as I started to dream of my perfect Azrein. A beautiful, strong one, with a courageous heart and elegant bearing. I feel my dream start to shift, and an odd tugging sensation at my heart... and when I open my eyes, and begin to rise... No, this can't be right. My eyes... are drinking in the most beautiful sight I've seen. A vast ocean of darkness, accentuated by brilliant, glittering gems, like diamonds in a black-haired beauty's silken tresses, flowing every way the eyes can see. I feel my mouth open slowly, eyes widening a tiny bit...

It had always been fairly easy for Bella to fall asleep and this night was no exception. She slipped into the depths of her dreams and when her eyes opened again it was to see a starry plane with the three she had met at the crossroads. Something rumbled in the background. Thunder? Mmm...not quite...it was a continuous sound, and it was getting louder, closer.
"Well then. I suppose it was fate that we four met where we did. I feel sure we will soon learn what is coming for us," she said and smiled. With a slight yawn, she ruffled her short blue hair and leaned back, laughing a bit as she watched Hex do her somersaults.
"Can you all hear it?" she asked, the rumbling starting to make the plan on which they stood vibrate softly. "They are coming for us, my friends," she murmured and smiled. She wondered what shape their destinies would take.

"Coming for us," Zander asked, "What do you mean? What's coming for us?"
Now that all of them were awake, he too had to stop and wonder at the reason why they were all brought together on the crossroads at just this time. However, he wasn't going to get the chance to ponder that thought for long, because what they had thought was thunder, could now be discerned as a multitude of horses, thundering toward them.
"Look!" He said, as he pointed to a series of colored lights making their way toward them at break-neck speed. "What in the God's name is that?" They didn't need to answer him, because in less time than it took to sneeze, there were four horses before them. Unlike anything he had ever seen before, these horses glowed with colors of green, yellow, red and blue. Each one taking up position in front of one of them.
Standing in front of him was a stallion, green markings on it's flank, and long green hair flowing down from his head. His tail as well was green in color. Greetings Zander, said a voice in his head. I have been waiting long for you to search me out. It is high time you had me come to you.
Zander shook. The voice in his head had to be that of the stallion in front of him, but how did it know his name? What did it mean, it had been waiting for him? So many questions, and no discernible answers.
Do not worry Zander, you shall have all the answers to your questions in time. For now, all you need know is that you are my Chosen, and I am meant for you. Now, close your eyes, for you can not stay here in our realm. It is time for you to return to your realm, and do not fear, I will come to you shortly.
Zander could only stare at the beautiful horse standing in front of him. He chanced one quick glance at his other companions, and he saw pretty much the same thing. Each of the four horses seemed to have chosen one of the others to converse with. A passing thought of, have they been chosen too, popped into his mind, but it was gone just as fast. Leave? How could he leave? He didn't even know how he had arrived here. But he was compelled to do as the Azrein said, and as he closed his eyes, he heard, When you awake, call my name, and I will come to you.
Call his name? How could he call his name? He didn't even know what it was, but before he could ask, he felt himself falling, and suddenly he felt the hard ground under his body again. He bolted up out of sleep, into the darkness of night. The fire had burned down to red coals, and the others seemed to be deep in sleep. So he rose and put a couple more logs on the fire. Enough to last til morning. The dream though would not fade from his mind. He could still see the stallion, standing before him. Hear its voice in his head. Call my name Zander.
He spun around! This was no dream. He knew he was awake now, but then how was it he was still hearing the stallions voice? A word suddenly came to him. A word unlike any he had ever heard before. The urge to speak it out loud was overwhelming, and though he tried to resist it, it would not be held in. "Nebulae," he said. He stood there, feeling much the fool, now that he had said it. Nebulae? What a strange word. Why should that word come to mind now of all times? He was about to go wake the other man in the group, Yabriel he believed his name was, and have him take the next watch so he could get some decent sleep, devoid of any more dreams, when he heard the unmistakable sound of hoofbeats in the darkness. Unsure of who would be on the road this late at night, and not having the benefit of the moon to see by, he drew his sword and prepared to defend himself and the others.
Put your sword away Chosen. You need have no fear of me. You have called, and I have come as I said I would. And coming out of the shadows, into the light of the now burning fire, Zander once again laid eyes upon the glorious beauty of his bonded. Rhia was going to faint dead away when he showed up at their next meeting with an Azrein of his own.

Bella had no time to answer Zander as the Azreins came for them. A black and red stallion sauntered up to her and leaned his head down, bumping against her cheek. Bella giggled and reached up to touch him. "Ahh, hello, beauty," she murmured against his warm flesh. And a beauty he was indeed. Covering his black coat were pale red starbursts, and upon his flank was a rose. Red vines crawled around his neck. She wondered how he saw through the line of hair covering his eyes so she couldn't see the color. Though something told her they would be just as red as his mane and tail.
"Hello, Bellatrix," he said, his warm voice rumbling in her head. "I have been waiting for you, but you had not come to me. My friends and I have been waiting patiently for you four, but we grew tired of waiting and called you to us instead."
Bella smiled. "I'm sorry, dearest," she murmured, stroking his mane. "But I am here, now, and very pleased to meet you."
"That is very good, Chosen Mine," he rumbled, and Bella could feel an equine laugh in his chest. "But it is nigh time that you leave here."
"Leave? How can I leave when I have just found you?" she asked, looking at him confused.
The red stallion chuckled again and nuzzled her, whickering gently. "Fear not, Mine, when you wake you have only to speak my name and I will be there."
"Your name? But you haven't given it to me yet!" she said. But before she'd even finished the sentence, he was gone, as was the starry field they'd been in and it was all replaced with the camp she'd fallen asleep in. She frowned and sat up, rubbing her face. That was such a strange dream...but when she looked around, she saw the green and black stallion she had glimpsed speaking to Zander.
And then it came to her. The name of her bonded and she smiled before whispering it to the night.
"Ruaidhrí, my red king." She smiled and waited. Her bonded did not wait long. She could hear his hoofbeats coming for her. Standing, she ran toward him and caught him around the neck, hugging him close. She could feel his chuckle in her bones now.
"You are Mine, as I am Yours," he murmured inside her head. And Bella finally felt whole. She hadn't known she'd been missing anything until now, until she found her bonded Azrein, the last piece of her soul.
