QUESTLINE: Planting the trees

As you walk around the reservation, you notice a few former War clan members squabbling amongst themselves. They seem to have dug several rather large, impressive holes.

"Did you bring any seeds?" The female clansmember seems extremely agitated, literally harping on the male. He in return, says nothing. "We need seeds of strong saplings, nothing else will support our huts."

She suddenly spots you. "'You there! Come here." She points the ground, where a few small seeds are buried." I need you to go to the Weeping Forest and find tree seeds exactly like these ones. We need to grow the strongest trees."

Before you can argue she points you in the direction of the Weeping Forest. Oh well, better get started

OOC

- Roll a 100-sided dice and match your dice roll to the results below. Keep on rolling until you obtain at least 2 perfect seeds. You have completed the RP once you have fulfilled this requirement.

- 1-20: The tree you manage to find and scale is weak and sickly. It does not seem like it will be suitable
- 21 - 40: You find a particularly large tree, and rather nasty too, as it swings its branches, nearly disemboweling you on the spot. You manage to snag one seed from its branches before you have to flee away from it. +1 seed
- 41 - 60: The tree seems to be very promising, but it seems to only be budding at the very very top. The branches are too dense to fly, so you take the dangerous trek of climbing up, but can only reach one seed before you fall back down. +1 seed
-61 - 80: You look around, trying to find your way... you could have sworn you took this path before. You feel a little lost....
- 81 - 100: You see a suitable tree, but before you can grab at it, a minipet runs away with your find. Maybe you should find that minipet and skin it...

Senga knew what the War horsemen had been doing from the moment he'd landed on their part of the reserve; he had not, however, known they were going to ambush him. Having only just woken up from the first long sleep in awhile, the young executioner had been prepared to slink off and find his sister, or maybe a nice spot to sit and... contemplate things. But there was no such luck, and before he had much say in the matter - really, with how forward some of the clan members of War were, he rarely got a say at all - Senga found himself flying backwards towards the Weeping Forest, descending into the thick canopy from above and landing in the dark branches so high above the ground. It was annoying to have to look for seeds to grow strong trees here, when back home they grew naturally, with the jungles constantly filled with new growth and age-old trees.

The quiet, at least, was pleasant to the ear. Senga rumbled quietly and leapt down from the trees, landing on the forest floor in a crouch. Shaking his head and allowing the hood of his pelt to fall away, the young executioner folded his wings neatly against his sides, combing fingers through the tawny feathers for a moment before beginning his search. Some might have considered it lonely, exploring the Weeping Forest alone during what he might have considered "mid-day" back home. Senga was still having... an interesting time adapting to the way the sky in Halloweentown always rotated from night to a dusky twilight, the brightness of a true sun never showing, and no evening or dawn either. It was a pity, really, and Senga still felt a fresh ache every time he thought of the differences between here and home.

Ah, but that wasn't what he was here for right now.

Pausing at the base of one of the more... worthy trees, Senga placed a hand on it and stared up into the dense branches, too skinny and gnarled for him to land on without doing more damage to his wings than he would like. But there were healthy buds at the top, and the promise of seeds and fulfilling his task quickly made him begin the awkward climb. He left his pelt at the base of the tree; a heap of silver that looked like a wolf laying down to any passing by. Giving his wings an indignant flap, Senga continued to climb upwards, wincing whenever his hands fell on a part of the tree that was sharp and pointy and -- god, when did climbing trees become so hard? A few more minutes of pain and inward complaining later, Senga finally snatched a seed from the tree, but at the expense of his balance and footing.

The resounding fall might have been more hilarious if one was around to see it.

Instead, Senga, none too pleased, spat out leaves and shook himself out on all fours like a dog, grunting from the ache now pulsing up his arms and legs. He knew that forests were important for his clan but god, he hated climbing trees. Pulling himself up, Senga brushed himself off, dusting dirt and leaves from his frame before picking up the pelt and slipping it on again, beginning another aimless trek. One seed down, a few billion more to go before they reached the amount they would need to bring any semblance of the jungles of home back into their foreign little reserve.

Padding forward quietly, Senga slipped in and out of shadows, looking to any wandering eye like a white wolf and nothing more. Though he'd been tasked with training exercises in the jungle before searching for plants and items of use to teach patience and observation, the young executioner was more practiced in the art of hunting and tracking than he was... rustling around in bushes. And the wildlife here is sparse at best for a hunt, he thought with a low growl, thoughtlessly pawing a near tree as he weaved in between the trunks of many, stepping over gnarled roots and maintaining as much patience as he could for a place that looked nothing like what he was used to. At least there was silence, and for that he was grateful.

Even though, as per the usual, the silence would not last very long. No, not at all.

+ 1 Seed

It was true that Zhiqiang had changed ever since the clans had lost their homes. His initial devil-may-care attitude towards the hunters had grown into something else entirely, a deep rooted loathing that was somewhat uncharacteristic for the typically light-hearted trickster. This, in turn, had brought about a number of other changes. Whereas he would have once skimped out on his archery training or his duties, Zhi now went so far as to rise at dawn (or the closest thing to dawn in this strange place) just to practice with his bow and arrow. He was determined to do whatever he could for the sake of the Lost Clans' revival.

Unfortunately for him, he somehow hadn't realized that helping the Clans meant doing things other than fighting. Not until he was cornered by a war horsemen and roped into gathering seeds, that was.

Zhi grumbled to himself as he trudged through the forest, his arms held over his head as he attempted to keep his overly long sleeves from dragging over the dead foliage that covered the forest floor. It was technically his own fault for wearing such a get-up to the forest in the first place, but he wasn't really well known for his good judgement. "Why couldn't she ask someone else?" He muttered to himself, looking none too pleased by the task bestowed on him, "How does she expect me to climb trees in this outfit?"

Sure enough, even with his arms held over his head like a creeper, even walking proved to be a rather daunting task. His sleeves kept hooking themselves on every branch that he passed by, which would prompt him to stop and carefully untangle his clothing, only for the same thing to happen five steps later. Needless to say, the Conquest horseman wasn't paying very careful attention to where he was going.

It wasn't until a good fifteen minutes later that he realized that the knot he was currently freeing himself from looked very similar to the one he had disentangled his sleeve from a few minutes ago. And so did the next branch. And the next.

Oh, for the love of--

Zhi suddenly stopped, his dark colored eyes narrowing and flickering to the side when he noticed movement. Sure enough, he could see a white figure moving beyond the dull-colored trees just a short distance away. Feeling a sense of relief well up within him, the horseman took a few steps forward, took a deep breath, and then called out in an obnoxiously (and unnecessarily) loud voice.

"Hey, hey you! Hold up a sec, will you?" With great effort--and a lot of cursing as he continuously got caught on things along the way--Zhi weaved his way through the trees until the other horseman came into view. Panting, he bent over and pressed his hands against his thighs as he tried to regain his breath. When he straightened up again, his hands automatically flew back up to their original position above his head.

Senga was, as it had constantly been noted on by his clan-members, about as easy to entertain as a rock.

So when he heard Zhiqiang's voice for the first time, and when he saw him for the first time too, his face had all but molded into a stony, flat look of disbelief. Especially at his not-quite-grandiloquent-venture over. But maybe luck had found Zhi that day, because Senga stayed rooted in his spot, standing on a gnarled old root and waiting - albeit somewhat in a puzzled manner, - while the Conquest horseman tripped and stumbled his way to where the young executioner was. "I..." The question caught him by surprise, but instead of answering immediately, Senga instead crossed his arms, staring critically at the man for a moment.

Somehow, Senga seemed to be running into every Conquest person he could find that week. And not at all while even trying to. And while Senga's curiosity knew no boundaries, he found it rather ridiculous the amount of clothing they deemed fit to wear. Especially in a forest of all places.

Perched up on his gnarled tree root, Senga stared down at Zhi, uncertain of what to make of this all. Things would go a lot faster if he just flew over him and carried on, and yet... the young executioner huffed and crossed his arms, shaking out his wings towards the other as though in an affronted manner. Of course, his expression quickly turned to a surprised look at the sudden arm position, startling backwards a few steps when they popped back up into position like branches of a tree. Regaining his composure with some difficulty, Senga smoothed his hands over his ruffled feathers and growled quietly, taming his expression back into submission quickly enough, cheeks heating to a slight red tinge. Well... okay then.

(▼へ▼);;

"Yes. I am searching for seeds... why are you doing that?"
Stepping closer to the the strange man, Senga reached out and tugged on one of Zhi's long sleeves. If he hadn't wanted to trip so much, why did he wear these things in the first place? There were many things Senga understood. Clothing wasn't one of them. "You Conquest horsemen always insist on wearing such difficult clothing, don't you?" He muttered, frowning as he turned his head back to Zhi, nearly nose-to-nose with him - which was only thanks to the extra few feet the root he was standing on gave him. Rumbling quietly in the back of his throat, a silent, hollow sound, Senga tugged again at one of Zhi's sleeves, staring at the fabric. His wings arched up and out, giving a few contemplative flaps before settling back against his sides, almost as though they were displaying a track of emotions otherwise kept from the young wolf's face.

Against all of the better judgement in the world, Senga opened his mouth again. "Do you need... help?"

He kept his arms up, even as the other horseman moved forward to inspect his sleeves. Just as he was being stared at, Zhiqiang stared right back, taking in the War horseman's appearance with a great deal of interest. His outfit, his wings, his expression...oh ho, so he was one of those types, was he? The types who were always stoney-faced and who would rarely crack a smile at anything.

Needless to say, he found these types to be especially fun to irritate. Perhaps it was because they usually had more tolerance than the typical person that made it so much fun. Just how far could he tease or prank them until they finally cracked under the pressure? Whether "cracked" meant finally smiling, or...well...

"I like your fluffy thing," He announced suddenly, apparently choosing to throw out this random compliment rather than respond to the other's question, "You must have good taste in clothing. Though as for the Conquest clan's clothing being difficult..." Trailing off, he turned his gaze back to his sleeves, a glint in his eyes. "Yes, they really are quite inconvenient, but it's kind of nice having long sleeves. It makes it easier to slap--"

Wait, had this guy...just offered to help him?

(☉▽☉) Change in plans. Slapping someone--or him--with his sleeves would have to come at a more opportune time.

With the slightly blank, wide-eyed smiling expression still on his face, the horseman slowly lowered one of his arms and held out a hand. "Why yes, your help would be much obliged. I'm Zhiqiang."

This... thing was very weird.

Senga almost wanted to ask if he was possessed. Possessed by what though? A creeper? Decidedly bored of examining Zhi's long sleeves, the young executioner settled back on his heels, shaking out his tawny locks and trying to resist the urge to tie him up with his sleeves and leave him where he wouldn't get in the way or endanger himself with those ungodly sleeves and the way he didn't exactly fit the... brightest-crayon-in-the-box vibe.

The sudden statement threw him off, making Senga open his jaw and snap it shut just as quickly. Well, this was new. Of all of the different clans now existing together in the reserve, the young adult had encountered more of Conquest than any others, but this one was ---

Σ(▼□▼メ) ....

Just who did he plan on slapping with those sleeves?!

Exotic. Maybe.

"It's a pelt."
He corrected sharply, giving one of Zhi's sleeves a sharp tug to emphasize this, skulls rattling hollowly together. "Yes, well. As long as you don't have to move much I suppose. You're not going to get far in this forest with your sleeves like that." Senga stared blankly at Zhi after this, wondering just how many expressions one person could go through in so little time.

Something was telling him this was probably the beginning of a beautiful terrible relationship.

"Zhi."
He shortened as though deciding all at once that the horseman's name was too long and too tiring to remember. "I am Senga." A name for a name, after all. Senga gave another tug on Zhi's sleeve before lifting it and wrapping it a few times around the man's arm so that it was significantly... shorter and, more importantly, out of the way. "You should do something about these first. You cant find seeds while tripping over your own clothing."

...He liked this guy's reactions. The blank staring, the incredibility as he watched--these were the types of reactions Zhi usually fished for when he pranked people. Of course, screaming in fear or running off in a panicked manner were the preferred results--or at least, they were his favourite to watch--but he doubted that he would get either of these from this guy.

Not right now, at least. Maybe someday.

Now this was what he liked doing. Not

"I have a fluffy thing too," He chirped cheerfully, almost immediately after being told that it was called a pelt (and thereby proving that he must have some kind of selective hearing), "They're nice, aren't they? They look good, are comfortable to sleep on, and are soft." He reached out then, obviously intent on petting the war horseman's pelt. There might have been a little sparkle in his eye. It looked so nice and fluffy...

"Senga, huh?" He suddenly stopped, fingers inches away from the fur. "I'll be sure to remember that! And--what are you doing?" He held perfectly still when the other horseman proceeded to wrap his overly long sleeve around his arm, his head cocked inquisitively to the side. Once he was done, Zhi stared down at his arm, and then happily flapped his shortened sleeve. Oooh, genius! Maybe it wouldn't get caught as much now!

At the mention of doing something--something other than wrapping it around his arm, probably--about his sleeves, Zhi simply shook his head. "Nah, just wrapping it around like this should be fine, I think. ...Do this one too, do this one too!" He flapped his other arm at Senga then, his expression bright and expectant.

This scene was probably not unlike a brother and his four year old kid brother. There was no doubt who was who in this situation.

He didn't like this guys reactions.

For every serious tone he tried to take, the Conquest horseman seemed to throw back to him a strange expression of glee or words tinged with some sort of foreign foxiness that reminded Senga greatly of the tricky creatures that filled their forests back on the Isles. Sly might have been a good word for him, but Senga wasn't sure just yet if the other - Zhi? - was smart enough to be considered that... yet.

Puzzling over the man's strange actions, and more than that, his strange words, Senga blinked at the declaration that, yes, Zhi had something fluffy too. "Yes, I can see that." He murmured wryly, reaching out to touch the huge fluff that coated Zhi's shoulders and back. His shoulders rolled back and he made a hmmphing sort of noise in the back of his throat. Wait, was he getting defensive over the idea that Zhi's not-pelt was bigger than his? Senga retracted his hand in mild horror at the thought. No, definitely not. This man wasn't worth getting... like that over.

"They have use."
Senga replied bluntly, "so... yes, they are nice. Your's seems very - " Excessive, "large." The wolf had a tendency to try and drag things around with him only if they had some sort of purpose or use other than to look pretty. Of course, the bones were exempt from this rule, clicking hollowly together as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other restlessly, trying to pick apart Zhi's motive and personality while wondering just how much trouble this would get him into as well. His eyes drifted from the others head to his toes, scrutinizing each aspect and lingering on each one. His fingers itched to touch the strange head-appendages, and he found himself rather fascinated by the Conquest horseman's outlandish style, but he'd only be wasting more time by trying it. At least... right now.

"Yes, Senga."
He confirmed mildly, peering back at Zhi. He didn't mind if the other wanted to touch; after all, he'd done it to the other as well. The young executioner sighed and leaned forward just enough so that Zhi's fingers were surrounded by the soft wolf pelt, dark skin contrasting with the white fur. "I am making this better." He said, giving a tug on the overly long sleeve once he was done. "So that you wont trip and alert every forest creature to your presence and have us both slaughtered." Of course, Senga highly doubted there were any creatures of actual danger here to be wary and respectful of. Apart from the faint noise of minipets here and there, the clansman had yet to find a single thing of danger apart from the rampant alpacas nearer to the school. Then again, his father had always warned him against speaking too soon.

"Maybe I should tie your sleeves together instead."
He rumbled, peering at Zhi with scrutinizing gold eyes. Sighing though, he set himself to the task of wrapping Zhi's other sleeve snuggly around the thin arm, giving it a final tug before letting go and hopping down from the root that had given him some height on the other. Now he was short again - or at least shorter than the Conquest horseman. Turning, he grabbed hold of the bits of long sleeve still dangling from Zhi's arms, tugging the other forward, much like a puppet master controlling a dolls limbs.

"Do you need anymore help with maintaining your clothing, or shall we start?"

The young wolf peered up at Zhi and waited, tethering his self-control and reigning it in again. He'd always been more comfortable with physical gestures instead of words, and found little wrong with messing around with Zhi's arms while he waited for a response. After all, he had a nagging feeling that letting go right then might result in nothing short of a catastrophe... for the both of them.

Frankly, the question of Zhiqiang's intelligence was probably a mystery to everyone, including Zhiqiang himself. He acted mostly on impulse, that much was obvious, but there was a serious side to him, one that came out in dire situations. A situation where his friends--because he had no more family--were threatened, for example, or anything that involved a Hunter. Though rare, there were times were the lively glee in his dark eyes would fade into something more serious, more clever...

...But that sure as hell wasn't a side that poor Senga would be seeing from him today.

The Conquest horseman seemed to take the comment about his pelt as a compliment, reaching back so that he could push the fluff forward and rub his cheek against it. "It is pretty large, isn't it?" He beamed, looking excited to have met someone who apparently appreciated his precious fluffy thing, "It's very good for sleeping on, and--oooooooh."

He trailed off when Senga moved close enough for his fingers to brush against the wolf pelt. Slowly, and surprisingly very gently, Zhiqiang ran his hand against the fur. So soft. He seemed so distracted that he hardly noticed when the boy helped roll back his other sleeve, glancing up only when he felt the finishing tug. Drawing back, he stared at his shortened sleeves thoughtfully...

...And then proceeded to flail his arms in the air.

"Oooooh, much better!" He declared loudly, waving his arms above and on either side of himself. Frankly, it looked like some kind of demented dance. "And no, no, no need to to tie my sleeves together," Zhiqiang grinned, seeming to have taken the boy's words as a real offer, "This will do nicely, I think. Very nicely--oh, where are we going?"

Falling silent--but still wearing that goofy smile on his face--Zhi obediently allowed himself to be pulled forward by the short horseman. At the question, he flung his free hand up in the air.

"Ready when you are!"

While Zhi seemed impulsive, Senga tried to rein in every ounce of self-control he'd ever used for this strange encounter, knowing that if he did not keep himself under wraps, his fingers would be wrapping around the Conquest horseman's neck instead. His wings fluttered at the others foreign nature, eyes staying glued to Zhi in case he had to save himself... or save the other from certain harm. The young executioner did not pride himself in being a people person, or very well educated in telling emotions, but by this point, he was rather certain that if one were to put Zhi in a forest, disaster would soon follow for all in a fifty-mile radius.

So, sadly, Senga was about to take it on himself to make sure nothing terribly bad happened to the long-sleeved, long-bodied, very strange man now standing before him.

"Yes, very large."
He reiterated bluntly. He seemed to attract chatter-bugs lately, and in some ways, this one nearly reminded him of Jay. The horsewoman was not exactly missed, but whenever she as gone her lacking presence was certainly noted on. Senga feared to imagine what sort of calamity would ensue should this Zhiqiang and Jay ever, ever meet. And sadly, he imagined that somehow, they one day would. "Oh?" He rumbled in return, staring down at Zhi as he gently trailed his fingers over the fur.

"It's a wolf's fur."
He muttered as an explanation, wings twitching and skulls clicking hollowly together. He remembered the day he'd seen the beast for the first time, and even more so than that, he remembered the warmth of blood on his hands, and the gift and trophy he had been granted in return. The pelt still smelled faintly of spice and salt, the jungle and smoke. Home. Senga's eyes flickered for a moment before returning with clarity to Zhi's face.

"Do you like it?"
He asked, but then Zhi was flailing his arms in the air again, and Senga wasn't sure he wanted an answer at all.

Sighing, Senga weaved his way around the other and guided him forward, flapping his wings to give extra power to his tug. "We are going," He grunted, "to search for seeds." Pausing, Senga reached up and flicked Zhi's forehead. "Listen, I will help you, so please don't get me killed." He rumbled wryly, unfurling his wings and giving a lofty flap. Now that they finally seemed to be on his way, Senga continued to guide Zhi forward, not sure he trusted him enough to let him go just yet, eyes glancing around for trees that might have good seeds in the meantime.

It was difficult--if not downright impossible--trying to figure out how Zhi's brain worked. It would be helpful if one could at least predict what strange and unusual thing he would do next, but it didn't seem as if the horseman followed any particular pattern. He just...acted however he pleased, whether that meant going with the flow or going against it. That being said, it was questionable whether the horseman was really as oblivious as he first appeared. Sure, he was strange and unpredictable, but...

...But was there a glint of amusement in his eyes whenever he managed to elicit some kind of exasperated reaction from Senga? Hmmmm.

Beyond that tiny glint of possible intelligence, however, Zhi looked...as dumb as ever, really. If he hadn't distracted himself, he would have answered Senga's question with a chipper, "Oh yes, I like it very much!" before rubbing his cheek against the soft pelt...so perhaps it was best that he had not heard the inquiry. As it was, he had turned his attention back to the pelt as the war horseman dragged him forward, using his free hand to pet at the fur. From the way he was stroking it, it looked more like he was petting a minipet than anything.

"Oh, right. Seeds." He had forgotten about those in all his excitement. A hand flew up to touch his forehead at the flick, but the stupid expression on his face did not fade. He simply nodded in an enthusiastic manner, his ponytail swishing violently at the movement. "Yes, of course! I promise I won't--"

He stopped, staring at something behind Senga. Slowly, he lifted a hand to point at the seed that was hanging just in reach from one of the branches. "Oh, oh, look! There's one right there! Just let me grab it!" However, just as he reached up and managed to get a hold of it, a corridivus decided to choose that moment to swoop down and plucked it from right from his fingers.

Zhi stared after the bird blankly, and then slowly raised a fist. He shook it with vigor.

Senga was used to patterns, and Zhi had none that he could see.

Senga liked patterns. He liked quirks, he liked knowing the mentality of animals and other people, and how they ticked and how he could avoid setting them off. But this man - this man-child - was like a blank slate to him. Everywhere he looked was just a jagged piece of odd information that didn't seem to fit into the overall puzzle that was Zhi. But then, they'd only known each other for a few minutes, and how he could he know anything yet? Still, it miffed Senga, made him uneasy with the idea that Zhi might turn and do something crazy at any point.

It felt like he was walking around holding a time bomb in his hands and trying to baby it, all the while just waiting for the moment it went off. The moment Zhi went off.

Senga went rigged at the cheek against his pelt - now the scent of the Conquest horseman was going to be there for days - but otherwise kept still. He wasn't about to protest when it seemed like protesting only made Zhi happier. And he wasn't going to further this madmans delight anymore than he needed to to survive... if he could, that was to say. Senga's eyes flickered briefly down to Zhi and he growled. It wasn't a very threatening noise, but it was deep-throated and reverberated through the woods. "Yes." He confirmed for what he hoped was the final time. "Seeds - what?"

Zhi's stare was starting to stick to him in an endearing matter, and privately horrified, Senga tried to discard the thought as quickly as possible. Instead, he whirled on his heels to stare at the branches where the seed was -- only to watch it get snatched up by a corridivus before the other could snatch it up.

Senga made an exasperated noise in the back of his throat and seriously considered hunting that bird down. For all he knew, the corridivus had just added another hour of hunting to their trip. It wasn't like seeds came in abundance - good ones at least. "Quicker next time." He said, reaching up to yank on Zhi's ponytail to steer his point home before releasing it and flexing his wings experimentally, glancing around the forest for any other opportunities that might pop up.

Sadly, however, he was pretty sure he'd been here before on his quest for seeds. Grunting quietly, Senga reached over and, feeling rather comfortable manhandling Zhi by now, wordlessly started pulling him down another path. "I've been here before; lets try somewhere else." He said by way of explanation, and fluffed his wings up restlessly to give more momentum to his step, and more importantly to his tug.

There was a lot to be asked about Zhi. Was he crazy? Eccentric? Immature? Perhaps he was all of those things...or maybe he was actually sane, but simply lacked any sort of self-respect or dignity. At the very least, it was clear that he paid little attention--and made little effort--to conform to the social norms of "normal" behaviour. To be fair, his actions weren't entirely inappropriate. Just...strange.

...Very, very strange.

Though clearly irritating at the corrividus that had made away with his prize, Zhi did not seem very bothered by the fact that Senga decided to yank on his ponytail. His head jerked slightly at the action, and he rubbed his scalp after, but there was that familiar grin plastered on his face. "Yes, I understand! I will be faster next time! Much faster!"

His sudden enthusiasm and the determined glint in his dark eyes should have been a pretty good indication that he was about to do something stupid. When Senga announced that they should look somewhere else, he Conquest horseman simply nodded, content to go along with his companion's suggestion. Or at least, until he thought he saw something dangling from the very top of a nearby tree. It was a frail tree, and it was clearly sickly...but this did not stop Zhi from doing what he did next.

"Oh, oh, I think I see one!" And, true to his word, he pulled himself out of the War horseman's grip and zipped over towards the tree, launching at it with the intention of scaling the trunk to the top. Unfortunately, being as tall (and therefore, somewhat weighty) he was, and with the tree being as weak and small as it was...

Down went the tree, and Zhi went right with it.

There was no seed.

Senga regarded the strange horseman next to him as they walked along the path, winding through the trees that he could have just as easily scoured from above with his wings. He wasn't quite sure why he was here of all places, babysitting this strange, adult-sized kid. He couldn't rightly say that he didn't dislike Zhi; in a way, the man reminded him of a certain jabberjay that seemed to buzz in and out of his presence every day, all day. But he certainly didn't like him either. Yet, at least. Senga sighed, pushing away the idea of likes and dislikes and relationships in general. It was too troublesome to deal with, too much complexity for him to care about right now.

After all, it wasn't like there was much complexity about Zhi himself.

Right?

"Good." He muttered in response, staring sideways at Zhi. "What are you anyways?" The question bubbled out of his mouth without his realization, and coloring, he turned his head in irritation at himself. "I mean - " He continued stubbornly, "you don't look like the nobles I met around the Conquest area. And you are dressed -- differently." Then again, most of the Conquest horsemen seemed to be dressed in fascinatingly foreign, elegant patterns that separated them from each other by a landslide. Sighing at his inability to talk, Senga contented himself instead with watching Zhi's next attempt at getting a seed.

Attempt was certainly a good word for it.

The expression on the War horseman's face when the tree buckled over under Zhi's weight could only be described as flat and disbelieving. There couldn't be a worse person to hunt seeds! Senga stayed in that expression for a solid minute, and then without any self-control whatsoever, he started laughing. This was just hopeless! Clutching at his side, the executioner tried to muffle his laughter by stuffing his hand over his mouth, turning away and trying to quell the shakes.

"Gods, but this is going to be a very long day." He said in between deep breaths, finally calming down enough to turn back to Zhi with a familiar, flatter stare. "Put that poor tree out of its misery." He murmured quietly and turned his head to look for any new potential trees.

Another dense tree stood in front of them, budding at the very top. It was too far and too dangerous to climb, just like the last, and grumbling, Senga threw his pelt over his head and stuffed it into Zhi's arms, draping skulls and wolf fur over the Conquest horseman. "Be right back," He rumbled, and turning, gave a solid flap of his wings and lept. The trek upwards was long and - frankly - extremely painful considering all of the branches jabbing into his sides, but what he found at the top was a perfectly healthy seed, and snatching it up, he smiled. That made two.

But this was getting extremely aggravating, and Senga couldn't spot any other seeds in sight. Rumbling, he pushed himself backwards, wings snapping open once he was clear of the tree. Dropping back down to the ground, the young executioner glanced up at Zhi and tucked away the seed after showing it to him. "Come on," He said afterwards, tugging at Zhi's shortened sleeves.

It wasn't like he had to stay; he'd gotten enough seeds to satisfy the clan-members back home. But, well...

Well, he just couldn't leave either.

...What was he? What a strange question! Zhiqiang cackled with laughter as he reached out to slap Senga on the shoulder in a friendly (and none-too-gentle) gesture. "Oh, you! I am a Conquest horseman, of course!" He replied, as if he was stating something completely obvious. Of course, no one could blame Senga for asking--Zhiqiang was nothing like most of the other members of the Conquest clan. He was not refined, nor did he carry himself in a proud and elegant manner. No, this particular Conquest horsemen apparently preferred running around with his arms held up in the air, sleeves trailing behind him like streamers. He was clearly still a very childish individual.

...Or, if you didn't want to beat around the bush, the term "dumbass" would have fit him perfectly.

"If you mean what role I play in the clan," He continued, propping his hands up on his hips, "I do a little tailor work as a hobby, but I'm technically an imperial soldier." Imperial soldier. Imperial soldier.

This man's job was to protect the people and the clan. Take a moment to take that in.

Zhiqiang was not oblivious to Senga's laughter as he wrestled with the little tree he had jumped, and for a second, the man's stupid grin changed into a more genuine smile. Oh ho, so the stiff war horseman could laugh! What a surprise that was! Hmm, if stupid actions were all that it took to get Senga to lighten up, perhaps he should make a point to do more in the future (because clearly that was a good idea).

Stepping off of the poor, frail tree he had so mercilessly attacked, the Conquest horseman was startled when he suddenly found a pelt being shoved into his arms. What--aah. Well, he certainly wasn't going to complain! On the contrary, even as Senga went off to collect the seed, the man's attention was focused on the pelt. What a pretty color it was! And it was soft, and fluffy, and--

It didn't take long until the other horseman returned with a new seed in hand. Zhiqiang moved to pass the pelt back to him, and then obediently trotted after him as he allowed himself to be tugged along.

"So, where are we going? To find more seeds? ...Haven't we been here before?"
