There wasn’t any particular reason why she was in the forest again; it was just a simple fact that her feet had taken her there. The young Oblivionite had a lot of things on her mind, from the latest test results to her combat performance, to the more mundane things such as that night’s dinner and a small hope that her mother wouldn’t force her to help clean the house when she returned home. But she wasn’t going to hold her breath on that last one. Her mother was a stickler for cleanliness and Elleth just knew that she’d be recruited to clean the bathing room and her own room. Not even her father would get out of helping. He’d been put to work outside, cleaning up the flower beds and decorative trees and fixing anything that had broken.

Her father might be a strong instructor and dragon slayer, but he was a cringing trainee when it came to obeying her mother.

Elleth hopped over roots when they appeared in her path and ducked under low hanging branches, wandering deeper into the forest. There was always something so calming about being surrounded by nature when it wasn’t trying to kill you that kept drawing her back. It was peaceful. There was little fear of being dragged into an argument or made an example of, or even just having friends chatter away incessantly in her ear. The only real danger was the dragons that lurked around unseen and the other various predators that wouldn’t mind turning Elleth into a snack.

It was as if just thinking about a dragon was enough to summon one. Vines crept slowly up a trees trunk, catching Elleth’s attention. The sheer fact that she could see the growth of it made her instantly wary. The forest wasn’t quite like it usually was when a dragon was about, but no other animal had the power over plant growth. She didn’t think that there would be a Dovaa so close to her home that needed practice with their power. Not if she recalled her geography lessons correctly, there were forests closer to their home than the purple hued ones she was familiar with.

Gulping Elleth crept closer and peered around the trees, ducking back almost before she’d managed to catch a glimpse of what was on the other side. Chiding herself she stuck her head around and barely managed to prevent herself from hiding again. The dragon on the other side was small but definably a Ysail. The little thing looked spooked as her movements caught its attention and broke its concentration. It gave out a strange sounding yelp followed by a series of squeaks as it rushed for cover.

Part of her told her to follow it, as a young dragon would still be considered a dragon and the soul orb was still a soul orb. But her morals wouldn’t let her even attempt to kill the creature, as it was obvious that it wasn’t proficient at its own abilities. It would have been as if Elleth was testing her skill against a child who hadn’t even learned the basics of unarmed defense. Shaking her head she turned and left the area, and not a moment too soon, as a larger and scar riddled dragon landed where the younger dragon had vanished.

Eyes wide Elleth made a hasty retreat, mentally thanking her father for instilling a moral code into her. If not she would have most likely just died.
