Potions. Super potions? Probably super potions. Other things... It was probably not a bad idea to carry effect items as well, like maybe a few awakenings, or burn heals, or... Was there a cure item for confusion? Having seen the effects of confusion on the opponent's team, it definitely seemed like the kind of predicament one wanted to avoid. Luke traversed the city's sidewalk at a pace between leisurely and purposeful, counting off the items on his fingers. If he was going to take training more seriously, then he needed to treat every practice match like a real one, and that meant not holding anything back. Maybe he could find a way to challenge other trainers too... Kodo as a whole, as Rosie had said before, didn't seem to be very involved in pokemon training, but if there was anywhere in the region where trainers gathered to battle, he imagined it was probably in Camphoreon.
Super potions, awakenings, burn heals... Wasn't there something else too? The uneventful early summer afternoon allowed for such absent thoughts, lacking anything of particular interest to the boy. He sort of liked it that way, though. Uneventful was a pleasant change of pace.

Days off were hard to come by when you were a grunt, but somehow Callista had managed to get one, and rather than sticking around at the base and idling away the hours in her shared dorm room or one of the staff lounges, she opted to go on a little outing to Camphoreon. She needed to get a few things that weren't so easy to come by on the base, and more importantly to get out among the rest of the world for a little while. It shouldn't be too hard to stay incognito - after all, she was just a grunt, and keeping a low profile shouldn't be too difficult in a big city like this.
As Hubert flew around in a large, slow circle, Callista kept her eyes peeled for a decent landing area. The gray and pink pidgeot was rather... unskilled... when it came to landings, and she wanted to be sure he had plenty of room to land and not cause an unwanted and unwarranted scene. It felt strange to be donning civvies again, but at least the dark green shirt and black jeans were serviceable enough.
She definitely didn't want to attract more attention than was absolutely necessary - the last thing she needed was to be noticed. Secured at her belt were her pokéballs - she had only brought three of her pokémon with her on this trip, Hubert being one of them. The other two were her Glaceon Eden and her Liepard Tasanee, both of whom could pass for contest pokémon if she needed a cover story.
"There, Hubert!" She called out at last, pointing to a likely-looking park to the right and a little behind them. Unfortunately, Hubert appeared to have a very different idea of where to land, because instead of sloping down in the direction of the park she had pointed out, the enormous bird was heading straight down into the middle of the freeway!
"Aaaaah, no, no Hubert no you great stupid lump of feathers - that way, I said, that way!" Callista shouted, lightly thwapping the bird on the head and frantically pointing again at the location she had chosen. He only answer was a drawled out "Piiiidge," something that might as well have come from a Slowpoke instead of one of the fastest pokémon in the air. Clearly, the stupid bird was trying to kill himself - and to take her down with him!

The shadow of a Pidgeot wheeling in the sky - it was a relatively uncommon occurrence for the city, and the sight of the dark form on the pavement drew Luke's attention up towards the sky on the thought that it might have been Rosie. While the bird indeed had some pink coloration to it, though, it definitely wasn't Perdy. The next detail to draw his attention was the rider, whose gesticulation and volume - he couldn't make out the words, but she was definitely shouting - seemed to indicate some kind of distress. The thought yielded a passing cold sensation; when learning to fly Leste, he had known too well the anxiety that something would come out from under his control and leave him in a bad situation. The implications of the flying-type's evident path hadn't yet reached him, but Luke watched with a vague foreboding. It'd work out, right?

"Arrrgh, pull up you stupid Pidgeot, pull up!" Normally Callista wasn't quite so harsh to the bird pokémon - she knew he wasn't the smartest and needed a lot of coaxing to get things right, but this was not a situation that she could take the time to be patient in! Hubert had done just fine listening to her before, but then she'd never flown him to Camphoreon before, either - clearly the flying type wasn't ready for city exposure yet. Not that she had the time to debate about this kind of thing, because the stupid, oversized featherduster was nearing the ground... and then he touched down, right in the middle of the road!
"Aaaaah!" Callista couldn't help but shriek as a car barreled toward the pokémon and rider- said pokémon let out a panicked squawk and began stumbling this way and that, forcing Callista to cling to his back for dear life. The sound of blaring horns, screaming brakes and skidding tires surrounded them, and Callista squeezed her eyes closed and waited for death. There was another loud, panicked shriek from her bird, accompanied by several crashes of metal, and suddenly she was rolling, rolling into... the soft grass beside the road? Cracking open an eye, Callista peered up only to get a concerned chin-peck from one very concerned and entirely retarded bird.
The off-duty rocket sat up, her head spinning a bit from the tumble she had just taken, and she stared out at the road and the one, two... six-car pileup that had just been cause by the gray and pink bird who was now standing next to her, staring at the nearby stoplight like he was thought it was another pidgeot. Hubert was completely oblivious to what had just happened... and just to add the icing onto the cake of disaster, she could hear the sound of ambulances and possibly some kind of helicopter heading this way.
Callista dropped her head into her hands and groaned briefly, then turned to look again at Hubert, who was completely unharmed and... trying to court the traffic light. Well, now she knew why he had insisted on landing here, at least. Sighing loudly, she recalled her mentally challenged bird and got to her feet. She had to get out of here before she got targeted by the angry and possibly injured owners of all the vehicles, looking for someone to sue.

Okay, so maybe it wouldn't work out.
The ensuing din was terrible, and Luke flinched against it. Even once the worst of the noise had settled, he hesitated to return his gaze to the scene; he had a rough idea of what the street probably looked like, and he didn't especially want to do that to his otherwise uneventful day. But then what happened to wanting to do what he could and help people? They were just words if he didn't follow up on them, and it was on this thought that Luke discovered that the aftermath of the unexpectedly alighting Pidgeot wasn't as bad as he had imagined. He searched briefly for the bird's rider, recalling her evident distress, and found her on the grassy knoll bordering the road. She didn't look hurt, but... He closed the distance between them.
"Hey!" His attention flitted momentarily to the road at the sound of sirens. "You all right? What happened?" It was safe to assume, he felt, that that wasn't intentional.

Callista jumped, not expecting to hear someone speaking to her, let alone at such close range. When she looked up, however, she was relieved to see that her would-be conversant was not a police officer or an angry driver, but just a regular person who seemed rather concerned. She groaned and rubbed at her brow for a moment, trying to get her frustration under control before speaking.
It didn't really work.
"What happened was that my stupid pidgeot decided to land in the freeway so he could court a traffic light," she grumbled, glaring down at the pokéball that held the featherbrain. "He can fly perfectly fine, but will he land normally? No, of course not!"
She took another deep breath and pinched the bridge of her nose before looking again at the stranger."Were you caught up in that mess and should I start running now before you shove a lawsuit at me??"

He offered a sort of half-hearted laugh - he assumed that if the Pidgeot was indeed courting traffic lights it must have been unharmed, and that meant it was okay to demonstrate a degree of amusement at the story, right? She didn't seem to be in the best mood one way or another, though, so he kept it short. It wasn't really something to laugh about anyway.
"Uh, well no, it's just that I fly a Pidgeot myself, so it was kind of like watching a nightmare or something..." That was probably a weird thing to say, but now he'd already gone and said it. "I thought it would be kind of miraculous if you weren't hurt, but I guess you're okay after all...?"

Callista nodded and dusted herself off, clipping Hubert's pokéball back on her belt before offering a polite smile to the stranger. "Well I think my pride was irrevocably shattered," she admitted, and tapped Hubert's pokéball. "But I'm fine - Hubert here may be mentally challenged but damn if he isn't also the luckiest feathered moron I've ever seen."
She looked around at the traffic and winced. "Ah, I don't mind talking with you, but mind if we do the talking somewhere else? I still have errands to run today and I'll never get them taken care of if I get tied up in red tape." Also because she didn't want her face plastered all over the evening news. That was never a good thing.

He offered a smile and a nod on her appraisal of the bird; Luke couldn't say anything about its mental capacity, but even he could tell just how lucky it was. And its trainer too.
"Huh-- Oh, sure." Yeah, it was probably... not a terribly good idea to linger around there, if she was looking to avoid getting caught up in the mess. The mention of having errands to accomplish brought him to wonder if he wasn't holding her up himself, but she didn't seem especially... impatient? Frustrated? Eager to shoo him away? The only other flying-type rider he had ever spoken with was Rosie, and so the girl elicited some passing curiosity that he wouldn't mind indulging. She seemed friendly enough, at least?

Callista smiled a little at the redhead and rolled her eyes. "Come on, then - unless you want them to pin the blame for this on you," she said lightly, already starting to step away at a quick pace. "After all, you said you have a pidgeot, and who knows how clear a view some of those people had." Warning given, Callista turned and walked away - it was his own business if he wanted to get away from the spotlight with her or stay and draw the crowd off of her.
She kind of hoped he would pick the former, though. The kid might have some news of the outside for her to catch up on. And he at least appeared to be a better conversation partner than her featherbrained pidgeot, who was staying in his ball until she left the city limits from this point on.

Ah, that was a possibility, wasn't it? People tended to blame whoever they could when they were angry; Luke knew that from his own experiences. He didn't necessarily have any errands that such a misunderstanding would keep him from, but that didn't mean he wanted to take the rap for something he didn't do just because he was there. "Right, probably a good idea..." He felt kind of bad about just walking away from such a scene, but it didn't seem anyone was badly hurt - there was no fire visible, and the only shouting that had started was of the angry rather than distressed variety. That angry shouting was probably a good cue to get out of there, yeah. He opted to follow.

Callista led the way to the park she had originally intended to land in, deciding that it was just close enough to be reachable while still far enough away to be a 'getaway' point, so to speak. Only once she was to the entrance did she stop and look back to see if the redhead was following her or not. Since it seemed that he had, she offered him a nod before reaching her hand to her belt and releasing Eden. The pink glaceon yawned and stretched out gracefully before turning to peer up at her trainer - and the stranger; oooh, a new person!
"If you still wanted to talk to me, then I hope you don't mind me letting Eden here get some fresh air while we chat," Callista said to Luke, though her gaze was on her pokémon as she knelt to scratch her behind the ears. "She doesn't much care for the pokéball, so I try to give her breaks from being inside it whenever possible." Only once she was satisfied that her glaceon was perfectly happy did she look again at the young man.
"I take it you haven't had to deal with inconvenient landings like Hubert's very often?"

He answered the Glaceon's appearance with a faint smile; he didn't see much of that kind of eeveelution, and its coloration was interesting as well.
"Oh, no, I don't mind," he said, shaking his head slightly to punctuate his reply. It sort of made him think about his own pokemon... Prior to coming to Kodo, Mieu had only ever been in his pokeball when he was being an annoyance. But the Flareon was so wont to running off and getting into things or bothering people that it hardly seemed like a good idea to leave him free of the pokeball regularly...
"Ah, well, not landings," he said, shifting slightly on his feet. "For Leste-- For my Pidgeot, it was taking off that was roughest. Though staying in the air got a bit... iffy, from time to time." Thank goodness the bird was getting used to bearing a rider; the scenery in flight was much more enjoyable without the vague threat of falling persisting.

Curious about the stranger, Eden reared up on her hind legs and sniffed the stranger before approaching him. She looked up at her trainer once, asking a curious "Glace?", and at Callista's nod, began bouncing in happy circles around the feet of the one she had just decided was her new best friend. Callista watched her, but since Eden didn't see mkeen on knocking him over and burying him in icy kisses right now, decided to let her be.
"Yeah, when they're not used to bearing weight like that it can be rough," she said idly, then glanced around and released Hubert from his pokéball s well - she might as well give him a good checking-over now that they were a bit further away from the scene of the accident... and since there were no traffic lights to court. "Hubert here never had a problem with that, he just doesn't... take... direction.... too - well - agh would you stop that?!?" Callista shrieked, turning and chastising the overgrown bird who had taken advantage of her turned back to start tugging on her braid.
"That is not a pull-toy, you idiot!"
