Someone sent me a link to this page with the following quote: Quote: We embrace the goddess of environmentalism and fool ourselves into thinking we can preserve the earth indefinitely when God has declared the earth has a limited lifespan and will last only until the end of the age. At that time, He will destroy all that He has made and create a new heaven and new earth. “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness” (2 Peter 3:10-13). As this passage so clearly states, our focus should not be on worshipping the environment, but on living holy lives as we wait eagerly for the return of our Lord and Savior, who alone deserves worship. It's this sort of thing that makes me really mad! I mean seriously.. Why does "Environmentalism" fall into the category of Idol-worship! I don't care what people think it is NOT a modern form of pagan nature worship! There is NOTHING wrong with Environmentalism as long as it's done right. You don't have to worship nature to respect & appreciate it's beauty & make an effort to preserve it for future generations. Personally I believe that if we are to "see God in all things" we need to give glory to God for nature & knowledge that God created the earth & all things in it, and show our love through caring for and appreciating what God has given us! I think that taking care of environment is just one more way to show God we love Him.. like showing love to our neighbor by tending to their lawn and pets. The way I see it, Jesus wants us to be prepared for when he comes back,so why shouldn't we have clean air & water & a nice happy healthy world to welcome Him? I think it's a bunch of hooy to go with the excuse that we shouldn't take care of the Earth just because the worlds gonna end someday in the future that we have no way of determining. For all we know, it could be 5 billion years from now when the world ends. There's no reason to let possibly countless generations of people and animals suffer by stewing in their own filth until then. God didn't want US to end the world for Him. By that logic if a baby had incurable cancer & the doctor didn't know how long it could live & predicted anywhere from 1 day to a normal life-span depending on how fast it progressed & whether or not it stayed dormant.. you should stop changing it's diaper & let it sit in it's own waste until it dies cuz it's dying anyways. The way I see it though, we should the right thing & actually try to keep the earth, clean, happy & healthy till the end of it's days.. like we'd want that baby to be.

I have to agree with you... Taking care of what we are given is really just responsible, and appreciative... God didn't put us here in such a beautiful place so we could go and destroy it... According to the quote you gave, God has already reserved that job for Himself rolleyes ....
It would be like me giving my child a gift... maybe a toy they have been wanting... with the understanding that it won't last forever, but I still want them to take care of it the best they can, and make it last as long as they can... Just because we know it will break eventually doesn't mean that they have the liberty to break it now... And taking care of that toy doesn't mean they are setting up a temple of worship to it... rolleyes

While you do have a few fringe groups who are about nature worship, most environmentalism is about good stewardship of the world we live in and trying to leave it in good shape for our future generation.

Nope we should destroy it, There are other worlds to conquer. And besides, if we destroy this one... the aliens wouldn't want to take it.
If you didn't catch that, I am being sarcastic.

Upon reading "thinking we can preserve the earth indefinitely when God has declared the earth has a limited lifespan and will last only until the end of the age" the first thing that came to my mind was; "Right, because since we're all going to die someday there's no reason to worry about a healthy diet, exercise, or hygiene. Logic at its finest, let's make life hard on the next generation as we excuse ourselves in favor of gluttony and greed."

I thought, making it hard for the next generation, is what we are doing. If we don't take care of our world, yes. I metaphorically compared the Earth to a body. In our lives most people tend to take some level of care for themselves. Maybe not so much as to say "That food has preservatives, I won't touch it!" Although I do know people who are like that. Most people know to wash their hands, shower, etc. We may not have the healthiest life styles, but we at least keep ourselves clean and even if we don't worry about the well-being of every single square acre, we should at the very least not litter. Personally I think allowing our world to become cluttered with garbage and unhealthy, poisoned by pollution and various toxins, will make life harder on future generations. Maybe not the next one specifically, but eventually our disregard and lack of responsibility will come back to hurt them. Since the future generations will likely be our own grandchildren (regardless of how many greats are before that) we should do what we can to give them a better world, a clean healthy start. Sorry if the post is a bit long. Just woke up and feeling talkative.
