Here's the lyrics
Mimi: It's true you sold your guitar and bought a car? Roger: It's true - I'm leaving now for Santa Fe It's true you're with this yuppie scum? Benny: You said you'd never speak to him again Mimi: Not now Maureen: Who said you that you have any say in who she says things to at all? Roger: Yeah! Joanne: Who said that you should stick your knoes in other people's... Maureen: Who said I was talking to you? Joanne: we used to have this fight each night Mark: Calm down Joanne: She'd never admit I existed Mark: Everyone please Mimi: He was the same way - he was always "run away - hit the road don't commit" you're full of s**t Joanne: She's in denial Mimi: He's in denial Joanne: Didn'y give an inch when i gave a mile Mark: Come on Mimi: I gave a mile Roger: Gave a mile to who? Mark & Benny: Come on guys chill! Mimi & Joanne: I'd be happy to die for a taste of what Angel had someone to live for-unafraid to say i love you Roger: All your words are nice Mimi but loves not a three way street you'll never share real love until you love your self-I should no Collins: You all said you'd be cool today so please for my sake... I cant believe he's gone I cant believe your going I can't believe this family must die Angel helped us believe in love I can't believe you disagree All: I cant believe this is good bye Mark: I hear there are great resturants out west Roger: Some of the best, how could she? Mark: How could you let her go? Roger: You just don't know...how could me lose Angel? Mark: Maybe you'll see why when you stop escaping your pain at least now if you try Angel's death wont be in vain Roger: His death is in vain Mark: Are you insane? There's so much to care about there's me there's Mimi- Roger: Mimi's got her baggage too Mark: So do you Roger: Who are you to tell me what I know. What to do Mark: A firend Roger: But who Mark are you? "Mark has got his work" they say "Mark lives for his work" and "Mark's in love with his work" Mark hides in his work Mark: From what? Roger: From facing your failure, facing your loneliness facing tha fact you live a lie yes, you live a lie tell you why you're always preaching not to be numb when that's how you thrive you pretened to create and observe when you really detache from feeling alive Mark: Perhaps because I'm the one of us to survive Roger: Poor baby Mark: Mimi still loves Roger Is Roger really jealous or afraid that MImi's weak Roger: Mimi did look pale Mark: Mimi's gotten thin Mimi's running out of time Roger's running out the door-- Roger: No more! Oh no! I've gotta go Mark: Hey for someone who's always been let down who's heading out of town? Roger: For someone who long's for a community of his own, who's with his camera, alone? i'll call i hate the fall you heard? Mimi: Every word you don't want baggage without lifetime guarantees You don't want to watch me die? I just came to say goodbye love goodbye love came to say goodbye love, goodbye just came to say Roger: Glory Mimi: goodbye love Roger: One blaze of Mimi: goodbye love Roger: glory Mimi: goodbye love goodbye Roger: have to find Mimi: please don't touch me understand I'm scared i need to go away Mark: I know a place, a clinic Benny: A rehab? Mimi: Maybe could you? Benny: I'll pay Mimi: goodbye love goodbye love came to say goodbye love goodbye just came to say goodbye love goodbye love goodbye love goodbye love hello disease
This song is so mad and I'm so mad they took it out of the movie. It's in the deleted scene's though
I hated how Roger got so mad at Mark. It made me feel so bad for Mark, even though Roger looked really sexy in this part

I LOVE that song and I think it should have been in the movie, not just the deleted scenes. It makes things more clear about what happened to Mimi and her going into rehab and disapearing and stuff

I can totally hear Adam and Anthony's voices in my head with that
Their voices mix so well together
And great chemistry
I love that song ^^
And I like how Mimi sounds in it, too
And it's a lot more deep than the rest of Rent
It gives you a real insight into Mark's character
And I like the acting in it
You can just tell by teir voices how they're feeling

mnerg. i mourn for the loss of half of this song in the film.
(but thank sondheim for deleted scenes, eh?)
the second half of it is SO important for mark ("mark has got his work..." hello character development!), mimi ("goodbye love, hello disease"), and benny (offering to pay for mimi's rehab...shows that he's still a good person despite marrying into yuppie scum).
without this half of goodbye love, what you own looks so random and out of place and i'm tempted to say stupid. you have to understand mark and roger's relationship to get that song, in my opinion. and without their fight....you don't.
also, for all you roger/mark fans, at the end of the new york theatre workshop version they tell each other "i love you". awww. heart

I love that song. I think it should have been kept in the movie. On DVD, there should be an option where you're able to watch the unedited version of the movie.

This song made me cry so much! especially in the movie. but Daphne's voice in the OBC was sadder. so i think i drowned myself in tears in equal amounts for both. no matter how many times i watch the movie, this song ALWAYS makes me cry gonk crying

when roger & mark are singing to each other, it was so sad!
Mark: I hear there are great resturants out west Roger: Some of the best, how could she? Mark: How could you let her go? Roger: You just don't know...how could me lose Angel? Mark: Maybe you'll see why when you stop escaping your pain at least now if you try Angel's death wont be in vain Roger: His death is in vain Mark: Are you insane? Roger: For someone who long's for a community of his own, who's with his camera, alone? i'll call i hate the fall
its not fair. they're.. i dunno.... they're just being so honest & having a fight, yet admitting what's wrong with the other &... GAH!!!! this song is just sad! crying heart

I love that song! I listen to it in math and I have it on my MP3 player. One time I finished a test early, so I wrote all the lyrics on the scrap paper he gave us. It was so awesome!

I love this song! It's so beautiful and it actual helps you understand more of the movie if you haven't seen the boardway play. It develops more of the plot, lets us know more about Mark and shows us Mark and Roger relationship!
How can you cut out ANYTHING that has to do with Mark and Roger's relationship?!?!?! gonk

How can you cut out ANYTHING that has to do with Mark and Roger's relationship?!?!?! gonk Chris Columbus's excuse was that it was "too emotional" and that the audience would just stop reacting. it worked in the play because you had intermission to digest. (which is total bs because all the "emotional" stuff is in the second act. psh.)

What was really sad is that I saw the movie, and about a month later, I heard the actaul song (the full version) for the first time, and I was talking to my friend about my ex (who i still absolutly love), and I heard the "just came to say goodbye love, goodbye love... glory, one blaze of glory." which was exactly what happend. I tried to say goodbye to him at the end of the summer camp thing, but he would have none of it. He said he would just dissapear without saying goodbye so that no one cried at goodbyes. So I heard that, and right when it felt 'natural' i was about to say to sing to myself to the same tune, "but hello..." i remeber that I was going to say something, but I cant remeber what. It was really creepy because Mimi sort of sang along with me "hello... disease" that scared the s**t out of me. I was sobbing by the end, because of the combination of the music reading my mind and everything else...
i know i sound pathetic and angst-teeny but thats the truth and my story behind the song.
