After making a stop at the pokecenter to make sure that his pokemon were fully healed Alex ran to the gym. As he walked in he looked around and was suprised at how big the building was. It looked a lot smaller from the outside. "MR. GYM LEADER!" Alex shouted as he kept looking around. "I WANNA GO IN THE RUINS!" His pokemon were following behind him. He didn't know if he would be able to beat the leader, but there was only one way to find out. The Gym Leader wasn't far away from where the kid had entered and turned his head at the sudden shout. "You can't enter the ruins unless you've earned this gym's badge," he said with a small smile. "Does that mean you wish to challenge me?"

"That's what the one guy said," Alex said as he kept looking around the gym. "I have a few questions before we start though. Is the entire gym a fighting arena or just one area? How many pokemon can I use cause someone told me you had three pokemon, does that mean that I can only use three? Can I use items? Do all the pokemon fight at once or is it one at a time? Do all the gym badges let you go into places like the ruins or just this one?" As he asked the last question Jenkins came over and set a Hyper Potion down next to Alex's feet. "Do a lot of pokemon find lots of potions and things cause Jenkins and Stripes seem to have found a box of them somewhere with how many they've found."

((I apologize for my delay. I shall endeavor to muster one post a day from now on at the very least >.< I've been busy))
"Just a few questions, huh?" the Gym Leader asked wryly, a small smile on his face. The kid's enthusiasm was making him laugh. "The area within the white rectangle is the battle area," the gym leader said, indicating the space. "You're allowed to use as many Pokemon as you wish, along with items. My purpose here is just to judge you on your battling ability - do whatever you normally do in battle situations - although, I should mention that you only get to use one at a time," he added hastily, lest the kid get the wrong idea. "This gym badge in particular lets you get into the ruins. Other badges will allow you into other places, but you'll have to earn them yourself to find out," he finished with a smile.
"Only Pokemon with the ability Pickup can find lost items like those Potions," he went on, looking curiously at the Hyper Potion. "It's no surprise they've found so many, this area is frequented by all starting trainers and I'm sure they've lost a lot of equipment. But are you here to challenge the gym?"

Alex nodded as he listened to the gym leader. Area in the rectangle, all the pokemon, one at a time, and pickup ability... Hr forgot to see what abilities his pokemon had... He would look at the pokedex later, first thing though, the fight. "Yes!" Alex said as he pointed forward and Blue trotted into the fighting area.

At last, they could begin. Ordinarily the Gym Leader would have been happy to field the kid's questions but on a day like today with so many trainers ready to being the Gym challenge, he didn't have enough time. "Let's start then," he said, reaching for a Pokeball. "Go, Farfetch'd!" In a burst of red light the onion-wielding duck appeared, facing its opponent with a pugnacious grin on its beak. "Use Fury Attack!" the leader called out, and his Pokemon responded instantly with a barrage of cuts from its makeshift weapon.

Blue stepped back as it got hit by the Furry Attack. Alex didn't see how many time it was hit but it was obvious that Blue got hit. "Use the electric move!" Alex shouted. Blue looked over at Alex for a second and then put its head down and started glowing. "Uh..." Alex stared. "That didn't do anything..." Alex pulled out the pokedex and as he looked at it said, "Use Quick Attack!" Blue vanished for a split second as he ran up towards the bird. "Charge?" Alex said to himself. That wasn't an attack he could use yet as Blue didn't even have another electric attack to power up, and he wasn't sure if the Farfetch'd had a 'special attack.' "Aw poop..."

Apparently the boy had yet to figure out that not all moves inflicted damage. The confused look on the trainer's face was enough to cause the leader to smile, but he didn't lose focus. The Quick Attack definitely threw his Farfetch'd for a loop, but only momentarily. The duck shook its head and returned to the fray, confident as ever. "Keep up the pressure Farfetch'd! Use Fury Attack again!" the Gym Leader ordered.

Blue stumbled back a little farther this time. It looked like he was hurt. Did he get hit more then he did the last time or did he get harder? "Come on Blue! You can do it! Quick Attack again!" Once again Blue vanished for a split second before attacking the Farfetch'd.

So far, the battle had remained even. The Farfetch'd and Shinx were trading blows back and forth, but both were holding steady. The Gym Leader's Pokemon had experience on its side, but the new trainer's Blitzle was forcing the duck to rely on weaker attacks to inflict damage. It made for a near-balanced matchup - though the leader obviously had fewer options than his opponent did.
As it stood right now though, the Gym Leader saw no reason to change up his strategy if it seemed to be working. "Keep up the Fury Attacks!" he ordered, and the duck complied, keeping itself engaged with the lightning zebra.

Blue stumbled back and tried to use Quick Attack again but was only able to stumble forward before he fell to the ground. "No! Which ball, which ball!" Alex shouted as he started digging through his bag and pulled out one ball after another and the third ball he just placed aside without using. The fourth one he tried was able to recall the Blitzle. He put the ball holding Blue next to the one that he didn't open and pointed at Stripes. "Use Tackle" he added as the tiny raccoon ran towards the bird pokemon.

The Farfetch'd squawked triumphantly as its foe fell, but the duck's satisfaction was short-lived as the raccoon barreled into it at full speed. With a small cry of surprise, the Flying-type fell backwards, hitting the ground and lying there. "Good job Farfetch'd," the leader said to his Pokemon as he recalled it. Clearly, it had barely been able to dispatch the Blitzle. He hesitated for a second, debating on the next Pokemon to use. When he finally did throw a Pokeball into the arena, it released his Woobat. "Alright Woobat, let's start with a Heart Stamp!" he ordered. The small bat chittered a reply, flexing its heart-shaped nose to create a small, glowing replica that raced towards the Zigzagoon.

Alex looked at the Woobat. He had no idea what it was that it was doing. He tried to look at what it was that it did on the pokedex but it wasn't letting him look it up. "Uh... Tail Whip Stripes!" Alex shouted as Stripes regained his balance from the hit. Both of them were wondering why the bat just tried to kiss the tiny raccoon pokemon. Alex made a mental note to figure out more about the pokedex after the fight.

Though the Heart Stamp hadn't caused the Zigzagoon to become confused, it clearly had done so to its trainer. The Gym leader was starting to like this kid more and more as the battle went on - he was just so innocent. "Keep up the pressure Woobat, keep using Heart Stamp!" the leader shouted. His Pokemon responded affirmatively, sending another pink heart towards the Zigzagoon.

Stripes tried to hold on longer but before it could move more then a foot it fell to the ground and couldn't get up. It seemed that the kissing move was rather powerful. "Stripes!" Alex shouted as he started trying different balls to recall the pokemon. The second one called it back this time. After a quick look at the pokedex Alex shouted, "Bite it Jenkins!" The Lillipup rushed forward opening its mouth getting it ready to attack as hard as possible.
