There was a hush on Deus Ex in the early morning, the mist hanging low to the ground. It would be rather pretty if the dark fog of Insanity wasn't still hanging over a large majority of the island. The sun had yet to fully come up when Molly's phone buzzed, indicating that a message had arrived. Lucyal Morning Molly! Come meet me at the training field in 10. I've got something for you. - Lance

Molly was working on the second half of her bagel that was drowning in strawberry jam and cream cheese in the cafeteria when the text came. She blinked, tilting her head as she looked over the message, and immediately she was standing. A summoning text from Lance! How exciting! She was rather curious as to what he could need her for, and not one to keep anyone waiting, much less her own Division Assistant. That last half of the bagel was hanging out of her mouth as she sent a text back. Marushii Good morning! I’m on my way right now! Molly pocketed her phone, adjusted the snaps on her coat and fixed her scarf as she then started to make her way to the training field. Curiosity was eating at her, though she’d find out soon enough, right? What could Lance have to give her this early in the morning? More training lessons, maybe? That was an exciting though! Wait… Lance… This early in the morning… Not indoors… Molly’s brows furrowed, and before she knew it, she was starting to run to the training field, woofing down the rest of her bagel. Was there something wrong? She remembered what Miss Candace said about Lance being nocturnal, so to be receiving a text this early in the morning? She was suddenly very worried. Thus as Molly did arrive on the training field, she was short on breath. “ I…is…everything alright, sir?” She asked once she got there.

As soon as he caught sight of her, Lance waved before he began to walk towards her. "Molly! Morning, and naw, I'm fine, sorry to worry you. I hope you're ready, 'cause today's going to be shaping up to be interesting." It was odd to have to look up towards him when Lance was quite literally one of the easiest division assistants to look in the eye.
Then again, the fact that he was sitting on a giant runic horse might have something to do with it. It looked like an ordinary horse, if a horse was made out of metal and covered in runes. Lance leaned forward and thumped its shoulder, beaming. "Like my ride?" He asked, flashing Molly a wide grin. "I hope you know how to ride, 'cause you have one too. Come on, it's over here."
Lance sat up straight, using his runic reins to steer the horse around. He clicked his teeth, setting the runic horse moving forward slowly. Someone had made special modifications to the one Lance rode: his legs were covered in a sort of brace that held him on the creation's back. "This is Buttercup," he introduced, glancing down to Molly. "See, animals don't like Fear. There was this Life hunter who was bummed about that to the point where she made a couple of these." He patted the side of the horse again for emphasis, "Except when she passed away, no one knew what to do with'em. They've been in storage for a bit and were hosed off earlier." He gestured towards a group of hunters off to one side, sitting in a row in some lawn-chairs taking bets. "I've managed to wrangle a few Life techs to do a quick check on'em. There's a chance they can explode, but that'll just make things more interesting." He glanced at her expression, then hurried on, "But the techs I snagged are also trained health techs too, so if anything goes wrong we'll have help ready."
They stopped as they pulled up next to an identical horse, one of the Life hunters rising to assist Molly up onto the runic horse. They explained the basics of moving, and handed Molly a small runic shield. "All right, go ahead and start walkin' around on your new pal. Her name's Daffodil Lily, by the way."

Molly looked up as Lance approached, for the moment finding nothing odd about this gesture. She just seemed simply relieved that everything was okay, and reached up to wipe her forehead with the back of her hand as smiled at him. “ Oh, whew! Good morning! I’m so happy to hear that…oh?” Wait a minute. The trainee’s eyes widened once she finally caught on that Lance was nearly towering over her, much less riding a robotic horse. She just stood there shell shocked. Recently she recalled seeing something here at Deus that took the cake for the weirdest thing she had seen…but uh…it was now blown out of the water by not just one, but two robotic horses. Simply amazing. But wait…she had one too? “ Um…y…yes! She’s…beautiful. H…hi Buttercup!” She greeted the robot horse, brows furrowing a bit as Lance launched into an explanation about them. It was then she noticed the gathering of hunters in lawn chairs. What…what had she just gotten herself into? “ E-explode?” Molly squeaked, going wide eyed again as she stared up at Lance. She was suddenly questioning if she ever took a moment to complete a will between the time she was accepted into Deus and the time she woke up, and regretted not checking into that. Did she really have an option to decline right now, though? Nope, and she remembered what Clarice said. Don’t ask questions. Molly climbed into the saddle of the robot horse with the help, thanking the other hunter and looking further confused as she was handed a small shield. Whaaat? What was she getting herself into again? Luckily, Molly did have a bit of horse riding experience. When she was younger, a work friend of her dad’s had a farm they’d sometimes go out to on the weekends…good times that…but the horses there didn’t risk exploding. “ Eh heh…it’s nice to meet you, Daffodil Lily!” Molly replied to the robot horse, patting its metallic shoulder in what she hoped was an affectionate gesture. Please don’t explode. She then took the runic reigns, and nudged her heels lightly into its side, making an ‘eep’ as it started to move forward. Okay…it was like riding a regular horse…Molly felt a bit better. Just a little bit. Molly couldn’t help but think she was currently straddling a ticking time bomb, and it was not a pleasant thought, but she looked to Lance for further instruction.

Lance maneuvered his horse until he was next to her, looking a bit worried. "All right, things will get a bit more complicated from here," he began apologetically, reaching out to give her arm a quick reassuring squeeze. "First... Which hand is your dominant hand? Hold your shield like this in your other. Here, like this: your arm goes through the strap here, and you hold onto this bit there." Lance twisted in the saddle, lifting his left hand to show. While Molly was mounting up, one of the technicians provided him with a runic shield as well. "Aaand then go ahead and summon your weapon. You'll be holding it with one hand, too. Here, look at me." Lance summoned his weapon, demonstrating how to hold it properly. "Even though the runic horses aren't alive, don't rest it on them. Hold it like this. If your arm starts to get tired, hold it like this -" he demonstrated, "But don't keep it here. See, you and I are going to do a bit of jousting." Lance nodded towards the field, where a fence had been put up in the middle of it. "You and I are going to be on opposite sides of both field and fence and basically charge at each other. You'll want to aim for my shield." He held the shield in question up. "Aaand I'll be aiming for your's. We're going to be dealing damage to each other's Fear shields. Whoever can deal the most damage wins, best two out of three." Finally Lance fell silent. "Do you have any questions? Feel free to ride around for a bit and get used to how the runic horse moves and how to hold your weapon. When you're ready, let me know and we'll begin." Quote: Welcome to Jousting! The goal of jousting is to deliver the most damage to your opponent's Fear shield. Exceeding the damage threshold does not cause injury to your Hunter. Instead, your Fear shield merely breaks thanks to the Runic shield. Between rounds, the Life hunter technicians will restore your hunter's HP/Fear shield to full. To determine your shield's strength, take the total of your character's normal HP and add bonuses accordingly: Runic Shield: +10 HP Runic Horse: +20 HP
For the purposes of Molly's promotion, 40+10+20 = 70 HP. There are two parts to Jousting: charging, and contact. CHARGING:This is the period of time in which the two opponents stand on opposite ends of a long field. At the signal, both will goad their mounts forward. It is during this time their mount will pick up speed and the characters will begin charging energy for their attack. OOCly, you and your opponent will take turns rolling just like a battle. The first dice determines the amount of distance your mount has covered down the track. The second and third dice are your attack dice. Add the totals together and subtract six to determine how much damage you will deal upon contact. As both of us are using runic horses, we will both be rolling 3d10. Movement Result - match the number on your FIRST DICE to this number: +2 +1 +0 +2 +0 Sparks begin to shoot out from the runes! At least they stopped... +1 +2 +1 The horse shudders beneath you and stumbles! It manages to right itself, but... is it supposed to be making that clinking noise? +3 +0
The last two dice determines the amount of damage you deal normally: add the two together, then subtract your modifier. For this RP, both Molly and Lance will be using -6. Damage is not dealt to your opponent immediately; instead keep a running total of it. If the result is negative, consider the total 0: nothing is added, nothing is taken away. CONTACT:Before contact can be reached, we need to know the position of the jousters. Position will tell us where we are on the field, and how far/close we are to one another. To keep track of this, we'll use the Position field on the Jousting code. Character #1's counter should go from LEFT to RIGHT. Character #2's counter should go from RIGHT to LEFT. CONTACT occurs when the counters meet. For example, let's say Bob and Jim are jousting. Bob has rolled 9, 5, and 9. Jim rolls 6, 2, and 1. Bob: Movement 9 (9: +3), 5+9 = 14-6 = charge attack of 8. Movement 9 has an effect of +3, so Bob moves 3 down the lane. His CHARGE total is 8. Jim: Movement 6 (6: +1), 2+1 = 3-6 = charge attack of -3. As it is negative, Jim's CHARGE total is 0. He does, however, get to move one step closer towards his opponent. The positions look like this: Quote: Bob's Position, CHARGE Total: 8 [l] [l] [l] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]Jim's Position, CHARGE Total: 0 [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [l] And again. Bob: 6, 6, 3. - Movement: 6. +1 movement. 6+3=9-6 = 3. As Bob has 8 CHARGE attack from the previous round, this 3 is added to that to make his CHARGE attack now 11. Jim: 2, 2, 3. - Movement: 2. +1 movement. 2+3 = 5-6 = -1, aka 0. Poor Jim. Quote: Bob's Position, CHARGE Total: 11 [l] [l] [l] [l] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] Jim's Position, CHARGE Total: 0 [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [l] [l] Rinse and repeat the above until the s on both lines overlap. When that happens, CONTACT has occurred. Use i's instead of x's or any other letter. i's are the same size as the spaces and keep the format more or less aligned. |D
CONTACT:Contact is the moment when two riders meet. Upon reaching contact, the scores are compared. The character with the higher score wins. If both characters still have HP, they return to their sides of the field, reset their CHARGE counters, and CHARGE towards each other again until one is left. If both characters run into the negative HP, the character who dealt the most damage is the winner. For Molly's promotion RP, the Shields will be restored after contact for best two out of three. If the attack values exceed their HP, they will be knocked off their respective horses. CIRCUIT BREAKERS:These mounts have been in storage for awhile... As such, they are faulty however the Life hunter who built them did put in some safety measures! Unfortunately, said safety measures haven't been maintained and, well... If you roll a 5 or 8 your mount has begun to malfunction! You have three circuit breakers, and can roll either of these numbers three times. If you roll it a fourth time, then the promotion mission will end due to explosion. TL;DR:1) Find your HP total. 2) Find the dice you roll based off of your mount. 3) CHARGE until CONTACT. 4) Upon CONTACT apply damage. 5) Repeat 3-5 until one character is victorious, best two out of three.

Complicated.
Molly didn’t like that word…but she smiled nervously regardless and nodded her head as Lance went into another explanation. The more he went on she found that it really wasn’t that complicated at all. He was really good at explaining! What worried her now though was…small targets…shields…them charging at each other with sharp pointy objects on the back of metallic horses…but now she was just like a knight during medieval times, right? That thought in itself was…a bit exciting.
Vaska was excited, but then again, he was always excited about violence. Maybe he was felt threatened over the fact that there was another lance weapon on Deus too, and thus felt like he needed to demonstrate how superior he was. Before summoning her weapon, Molly pulled her curls back into a pony tail, fishing a tie out of her coat pocket, for serious business. It was really a good thing Molly just smiled and nodded her head as she summoned her weapon, holding it the way Lance instructed as she shifted the shield in her other hand. Huh. This was rather different…she wasn’t use to this…yay for trying new things? Dangerous new things. Molly did take a few minutes to ride around with the runic horse and her weapon out and about as well, and well, she didn’t want to keep Lance waiting for too long, so she came back over to announce that she was ready to go (or as ready as she’ll ever be, riding a four legged bomb with a giant sharp pointy object).
Standing at her spot as instructed, Molly closed her eyes and tried channeling some confidence first. Remember what she saw on television for jousting. Also, mentally wish everyone her love, just incase something happened. Now, time to get things started. "Um...Good luck to you, sir?" She called out.
Molly righted her weapon perpendicular to the ground and firmly held onto her shield. With a nudge to give Daffodil Lily the go ahead, the young woman let out a startled yelp as the runic horse stumbled, jostling her in the saddle. Luckily it managed to catch itself and Molly hastily straightened her posture and fixed her hold but…
What was that clinking sound?

Lance sat back on his horse, watching as Molly went through the basics. She seemed to be doing okay, but he couldn't help but to feel concerned as she seemed to be a bit... hesitant? He thought back to when they first met. Perhaps he should do something to instill confidence.
What would Allan do?
No -- that was a bad idea. He quickly discarded that idea. He had no idea what sort of inspiring message he could pass on. Go for it, Molly-chan! We are nakama no matter who blows up first! Was that even the right word? Those words always tripped Lance up, but Allan-taichou was pleased with him for trying.
But. No, Allan-taichou's wisdom and words of encouragement were failing Lance right now. Besides, he was a division assistant right now. He could do this. He couldn't exactly stand on his own right now, but hell. Lance was already doing something he thought he could never do again. He could do this.
As Molly called out, Lance hefted his lance and saluted her. "Good luck to you too! Don't sweat it, this'll be fun!" He was grinning, lowering his weapon into the ready position. His grin faltered slightly when there was no response to the kick. Right. That.
Whelp. Lance laughed at himself, shaking his head before he began to fiddle with the reins, trying to start his stalled horse up again.

Maybe Lance could see it. The very nervous and trying to be reassuring, shaky grin that Molly gave him from further down the field as she wiggled her lance a bit at him in return. Fun...yeah...
Okay…try to look at it like…fun! Like…a training match or a spar, right? Molly nudged her heels into Daffodil Lily’s sides once more, and was rather pleased as the steel steed start to pick up speed, and the clinking sound faded, for now. It was a small, smooth action, but it was starting to build her confidence again already.

Despite the lack of a start from his, Lance was looking forward to this. How many opprotunities did one have to joust? Not many, even if you removed the runic equipment from the equation. What would they do otherwise, run at each other? Have Molly in a chair as well? There was a sort of dignity that game with the sport in question that made Lance dismiss the idea immediately. No thanks. And Buttercup still wasn't moving. "Oh come on!" He snapped the reins, running his fingers over the runes. Shoot, shoot, shoot. These things were nothing like the real thing. Hmm… Lance wasn’t moving…was everything okay? Just as she wondered, her own mount slowed to a stop. Uh…Molly blinked, and gently nudged it forward once more, and lo and behold, she startled and yelped as sparks began to shoot forth from the runes. She swore her life flashed before her eyes…and not the sparks from the runes, and instead of abandoning ship so to speak, she stayed on the back of the horse, tensing and closed her eyes. A few moments passed. Molly cracked an eye open. …Okay…they stopped…was she safe…for now? "Hey Lance! Are you having trouble getting it on?"Lance shot the idling Life Hunters a black look, the expression turning into alarming concern when he caught sight of the sparks issuing forth from Molly's mount. He held his breath until the sparks settled. It looked like everything was all right. His mount began to hum under him before it began to walk, stumbling muchto Lance's swearing as it righted itself. Well. At least it was moving now. Lance flashed the watching Life hunters a one-fingered salute. Molly almost didn’t want to nudge Daffodil Lily again. It was like…kicking a sleeping dragon. It resulted in fireballs, she was sure. She looked up as Lance seemed to be ah… having a talk with another hunter, and smiled sheepishly. Okay, she still needed to do this, though. She reached out to pat the horse’s steel shoulder once more. “We can do this, Daffodil!” She tried to encourage, and shifted her shield back up. The young woman nudged her steed once more, and squeaked in pleasant surprise this time as the robot horse started down the field at a nice, consistent, yet quick pace. His clicking mount slowed to a stop, thankfully pausing with all four dainty runic hooves flat on the ground. Except then sparks began to issue forth from the runes, the hunter jerking back out of reaction. He transferred his lance from one hand to the other, freeing his hand in order to slap the sparks off of his legs. "Heeeeeey Lance! I never knew you blew your load early!""Yeah! I never knew that you just sat there, either!"Lance contemplated the chances he had of goading the runic horse into motion and running down the Life techs. He wished now that he had a ranged weapon instead of a lance, but if he did... They wouldn't be doing this now, wouldn't they? Dare Molly feel hopeful? Daffodil seemed to be doing great right now! Or…she was… Until she slowed and came to a stop…and then started to spark again. “ Eep!” Molly yelped, waving her shield-covered arm around as if that would quell the sparks. After a few moments, they faded…and once again, it left Molly wondering… What also left Molly wondering, though, was all this talk about blowing loads early. She looked up, and looked between Lance and the lounging Life Hunters, her brows furrowing. Lance’s horse seemed to be doing the same thing as hers…and he did say they could explode…One had to pardon the young woman really, for what she was about to assume, and for what she was about to call out across the field. “ Uh…Lance, sir!” She cupped a hand on the side of her mouth. “ I think mine is about to blow its load early!” Seriously. This horse could explode underneath her at any minute. Molly really wished she looked into that will. Lance ignored the hoot of laughter that came from their audience. At least not all of them were laughing, though in all honestly not even Lance could prevent an (albeit embarrassed) grin fron his face. Though... She really did sound concerned. "If you're not comfortable, we can stop now and do this again after they've been properly checked," Lance called back to her, giving the Life technicians a pointed look. "Or we can keep going as we are." Meanwhile, Lance was still fiddling with his horse's controls, trying to goad it into moving. Beneath him the mount seemed to shudder as it moved... then stopped again. "Son of a..."
