Raikinti flicked his tail and laid his ears back nervously, tension skittering through his form. The trees around him seemed far less imposing than the ones he faced, ancient things that grew much closer together and blocked out much more of the sun's light. He hovered at the border of his known 'territory' staring into the deeper woods with hesitation. And perhaps a little fear. Maybe a lot. What the hell was he thinking? Cloven hooves dug deep into the earth as Raikinti rocked his weight onto his hindquarters, nostrils flaring wide as his eyes searched for the source of a sudden rustle in the brush. What was that? A Kalona? A Skinwalker? A wolf or a hunting cat or a - ... squirrel.
"Oh man." Raik muttered, shaking his head as he relaxed, muscles un-bunching as he took a half step back. Flicking his short tail, he stretched his neck out and let his head hang, waiting for his heart to slow down. "I'm going to talk myself straight into the ground... What am I doing? Why did I listen to Delri when he suggested I just spontaneously 'explore'?" Slowly, he inched backward into his well-known neck of the woods, eying the meadow that sprawled just beyond the trees. A walk in a meadow was safe, right? Slinking toward the open ground, the striped stallion sighed to himself. "Little steps, Raik, little steps. New place, filled with creatures that can eat you... Take small steps."

Orion had only narrowly escaped. His latest--and best!--prank (that involved his mother and sister, four lizards, a bucket of sap, nine horseshoes, and the willful--if oblivious--cooperation of his adorable, darling pseudo-nephew) had gone spectacularly well. As a result, he had only narrowly escaped the wrath of two angry--and sticky--mares and thought it prudent to not return to the teepee for awhile.
A really looooonng while. However, as a result, Orion was so very, very--
"Boooorrreeedd." Orion whined aloud, scrawled out on his side on the soft, green grass. "I'm so boooorrrreeedd," he said again, sounding uncannily like an petulant foal. He rolled on his back, his four long legs up in the air as he squirmed, his head thrown back and staring at the world upside down. 'Bored, bored, bored, bored, bor-- SQUIRREEEL.'
He caught sight of a squirrel out of the corner of his eye, darting across the meadow, and jumped up, managing to untangle his limbs and regain his balance at a startlingly impressive rate. In a flash he was off, chasing the poor, unfortunate squirrel across the meadow.
"Ohhhh squirreelly~ Coommeee plaay with mee~" he called after it gleefully, running after it as it zig-zagged itself across the grass. "Squirrely-squirrel~ Squirrelly-squirelly-squirelly~"

In most cases Raikinti considered himself the observant sort. After all, it was way too easy to get into trouble -or, you know, eaten- if one wasn't paying attention. Because he wasn't fond of being in trouble -or in danger, or being in danger of being eaten- Raik paid attention. Elementary, logical, common sense. Delrialto -Raik's best friend ever, if only until he found someone with sense- was not one to put much stock in any of those qualities. Delri liked action, and pranks, and mischief and traveling. Someone had been a very bad influence on him. And okay, so once in awhile Raik let himself be dragged along on one of Delri's escapades... Because really, how could one avoid it? It was Delrialto, and the youngest generation of the SilverShadow family was just that way. (That good, or that bad, depending on one's point of view and the prank of the day.) But really, all of that was okay because Delrialto was there, and there was... Well, a possessive force -one could call it- that was never far away should Delri actually find himself up to his ears in danger. So Raik had always been, well, safe... ish. And now he was out here, by himself, talking himself into a panic... Not paying attention. Sufficient to say, when the white and gray painted stallion shot into view chasing the squirrel like some mad thing, Raikinti reared and whistled in sheer surprise and, well, terror. "WHAT THE- HEY! ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL SOMEONE!?" He yelped as he jumped backwards and fought the urge to cower behind a nearby shrub, his heart galloping in his chest. "Oh my god, I think I just lost ten years off my life... I'm gonna drop dead tomorrow and it's all your fault."
