((Backdated a bit, since I was trying to clear other stuff before starting this one...))

Between the nightmare and the whispers that kept insisting it had happened, or at least would happen, Mitzi had barely made it out of her room the last couple days. Finally, though, she had eaten up both her own snacks and the ones Imryn brought, and the need for more food had forced her to get out and head to the cafeteria. She looked a mess, exhausted and haggard, and kept looking over her shoulder as though expecting something to pop out at her. Even seeing the cafeteria ahead didn't calm her down at all; it just was one step to getting food, and then getting back to the (relative) safety of her room.

As much as she was constantly looking around for... something... she wasn't really noticing any students. They weren't what she was worried about, and so although she was slightly staying out of everone's way, she didn't seem to pay attention to who anyone around her was.

Jack never had lunch during the lunch-hour. Even for a demon who revelled in the spotlight, he felt that it was just so . . . over the top. Thusly so, the cat-demon found himself traversing the halls of the school, working hand in pocket, with his tail fluttering behind him, he enjoyed the silence that came after the storm. He almost missed Mitzi completely, the bubbly sweet Reaper he had met prior was so much more dimmer looking and skitterish than he remembered, which made the demon perk up curiously.

Starting a soft little whistle, he closed the gap between them quickly with a few long strides, the soft clicking of his shoes echoing off the floor in the hallway before he just about danced around her, spinning with his steps so that he was facing her, walking backwards, eyes alight and playful.

"Hell~o Mitzi" He sung out to her, his voice reflecting the playful-ness as he waved to her with his bandaged hand, which kind of looked silly since he couldn't use most of his fingers. It wasn't until he noticed her spooked face that a seriousness rolled over his face, and his eyebrows raised as he bent down to her, looking her over quickly.

"What's wrong sweets, you seem. . . pertrubed." He requested, less of a question, more of a statement.

When Jack appeared in front of her, she didn't even notice him at first, her attention flickering around too quickly; she just knew there was a student in her way. She started to walk around him, although his dancing about kept him in front of her. It wasn't until he greeted her by name that she really saw him, and she pulled up short, her breath catching. She let it out in long sigh when she recognized the demon, almost but not quite of relief.

"Jack," she replied, with what sounded distinctly like a hint of nervousness in her tone. Not at him, at... something else. "It's good to see you." Although her words mostly rang true, there was an undercurrent that seemed to tell the opposite. Not him in particular, more that she was avoiding everyone.

At his question she somehow managed a wan smile. "I, it's... Did you go on the Horsemen trip?" She didn't remember seeing him in the milling crowd the morning afterwards, but she had missed others who had been there. At this point she'd spoken to enough friends who'd been on the trip to suspect that most, if not all, of them had had a similar reaction to it, if for varying lengths of time. She got the distinct impression Jack had not been there for that second week, or more specifically the disaster that followed, and she didn't feel like she could explain, at least not right now. "It's... it's nothing, just something that... I'm fine, really." If she could convince him, maybe she could get something to eat, and then escape back to her room.

A shadow off to the side caught her eye, and she glanced over, and then back, and then over again. Something was definitely bothering her, whatever she might have said.

That was a loaded question.

Giving her a bit of a look, he kind of looked down at his hand, lightly picking at the bandage that rested over his main hand, shrugging a little, trying to figure out how to express how it had been.

"I was at the islands. For a bit. I did a week in the Isle of the Conquest clan before I was dragged back. Dinged myself up pretty good actually." He stated, shrugging a little idly, tail flicking behind him. It wasn't that he didn't want to go back - he was just persuaded to stick around before the next set of classes in . . . what was it, War clan? Had started. Something about having a hand that was mangled a bit would do bad when attempting. He did try at least - roped up a little too.

"Did something happen tho, little one?" He asked her out of the blue, going to sit next to her so he could be there, in case she needed to talk. Everyone needed to get something off their chest. "Don't hesitate to talk, you can't hurt my feelings by a little chatter." He offered up, hoping that she would try to open up a little, tell him what had her uncomfortable.

"Oh." So he'd missed the end... and, she figured, all the fallout thereof. Had he been at that other event she'd heard about, where a teacher succumbed to Insanity? Well, it didn't matter - she still didn't think she could explain what was going on, even still. It had been hard enough to explain it to Imryn, who had been there.

As Jack sat down near her, clearly intending for her to sit beside him, she paused. A part of her knew that she badly, badly needed someone around, needed to actually escape her room and interact with someone, anyone else. But another part now understood exactly what Roch had been talking about, that morning when she'd run into him - that part was absolutely certain that anyone around her would get hurt. If not now, then later. So with some obvious reluctance she shook her head. "No, I... I shouldn't. It's not safe."

She started to edge down the hall, until she was completely past and backing towards the cafeteria. Her eyes darted to the side, and then back, and for the first time she seemed to actually register the damage to his hand. "Oh, uh, I, um, I hope your hand feels better..."
