The races of Faerie are dying. T hanks to the advancement of human technology and greed, their beloved lands have been intruded upon. Surplus in human iron and steel are disrupting the flow of magic underneath the earth on which they feed, their source of immortal life. Their ability to reproduce has become strained as their lives dwindle down into human years. There is only one choice left if their kind is to survive. A human conceived of magic will be born into magic. For centuries the Fae have embraced mortal bodies in the hopes of producing halfling children. Usually the humans chosen are young and in their prime, making it easier for them to produce more than one halfling child. The process, one might not think, is a tricky one, for once the child is born it is near impossible to know if they carry Fae blood within them. U nless the magic within a halfling child is awoken, that child shall remain a human, oblivious to their Faerie lineage. However, once the magic is disturbed within them, they will begin the process of becoming a full-fledged Fae. E ven now the flow of magic has become weaker, the traces of it becoming even harder to spot. Defects have started to show within children born of mixed blood. Many don't last beyond the age of seven. The Fae now have no other choice but to hunt down the remaining humans that already carry traces of their kind in their blood, in hopes of rekindling a generation of Fae stronger than the last. S ome humans have agreed to help the Fae, a rare kind who can see the Fae without the help of magic. These humans are known as Seers. Long ago, the Courts would have blinded or killed any human who could see them while holding no trace of Faerie blood. Now they have become allies. T heir deal is a fair one: if the Seers help the Faerie clans return to their former glory, they will spare the lives of them and their predecessors when the time comes for war. If the Fae win, they will grant the Seers immortal life.
I n order to keep their end of the bargain, the Seer clan's leaders have banded together to create a facility where halflings and Fae court members can mingle. The facility has been disguised as a boarding school located on the coast of Scotland, where it can be influenced by the pure magic of Avalon, the realm of Fae. By the influence of Avalon, the halflings have begun to awaken.

❧About The Academy❧
The academy is known by its students as Avalona, named, of course, after the realm it connects to. Avalona is located on a remote island off the coast of Scotland, known by the locals as Persephone Isle. The Isle itself is nothing more than a rumor for those who live on the coast, thanks to a glamour of invisibility given by the Fae who live at Avalona.
As both Persephone Isle and Avalona are directly connected to the Faerie realm, many magical folk tend to traffic in and out of both places, using the isle as a bridge between the two planes. This was done in knowing it would be easier to stir the blood within the halflings brought to the academy. The condensed magical energy that flows between the worlds causes the process of awakening to quicken, to have the change occur within months rather than years. This also makes it easier for the Fae to spirit away the halflings without suspicion. Where before they would have had to steal the halflings when they were children, they can now use the clever ruse of a boarding school to trick the mortal parents into giving up their children without suspicion.
With this said, a halfling will not notice changes within themselves until the first three or four months at Avalona, though they may indeed feel the magic coursing through the island or start to see past the glamour of certain objects.
Oh, and thanks to the glamour that shields Persephone Isle, there's little to no hope of the halflings escaping if they find something amiss. That is, until it's too late...

❧ Extended Information on Halflings ❧ Bloodline and the Inheritance of PowersBasically, a halfling is born fully human, but the genetic code for the fae attributes exists within them. When that part of them is agitated by magic (usually by being in the vicinity of full-blooded fae or the pure magic of Avalona itself) they will literally mutate into a full-blooded fae. The human part of them is "detoxed" from their system, and over time it will leave them completely. In reality, the term "halfling" is pretty inaccurate, because there is no way for a human to become half-fae indefinitely. The term halfling is meant only for the transition stage from human to fae. Depending on how weak the bloodline is depends on how long the change actually takes place. A human with one human parent and one fae parent will take less time to fully transform than a human with an ancient fae ancestor.
As for their powers, that is their birthright. The strength of their magic depends entirely on their species of fae. The biggest challenge for the halfings is not how much or how little power they have, but how to control that power.

❧ Extended Information on Seers ❧ ClansThere are five main Seer clans that interact on a political level with the Fae. The order of the houses, from most influential to the least, is as follows: The Lilthe house, the Rickon house, the Baron house, the Giure house, and the Farthorn house. The Rickon house and Lilthe house are very close to one another and intermarry often. The leader of the Rickon house, Jethro Rickon, is the headmaster at Avalona, while the leader of the Lilthe house works as an intercessor for the school grounds and Avalon. The Baron house is the third most powerful house, but they do not want much to do with Avalona or its plans to convert the halflings. They detest the Faes and do not trust them, but on orders for a truce some of their kin stay on the school grounds to survey progress and report back to their leader. If they could have their way, however, they would push all the Fae and their halfling kin back into Avalon where they belong.
The Giure and Farthorn houses are both newly formed houses, popping up around the same time a mere few centuries ago. The Guire are very much like the Lilthe and Rickon families, their thirst for immortality driving them to help the Faes as much as they possibly can. Mostly they do what they can to serve the two highest clans in hopes of learning more from them and gaining their trust to enter into the inner circle of politics. The Farthorn clan is supportive of Avalon for one reason: peace. The final house is, by far, the gentlest of the Seer clans. All they wish for is unity, and unlike their more powerful counterparts, do not care for immortality. Though some of their clan do fear war, the majority of them hope for nothing more than peace between the races. Lineage Only the seers from these five clans attend Avalona, though there are many more clans out there. Every Seer belongs to a clan, unless, for some reason, a family had decided to cut ties with their clan to hide amongst normal society. These individuals are rare and far between, because to be a seer without the protection of a clan crest is the same as committing suicide. Because of their powers to see the Fae for what they truly are thanks to the nullification of their glamour, the Fae do what they can to hunt unconnected Seers down. For them, Seers are a dangerous existence, because not only can they expose their race to the world, Seers are as educated about them as they are. If they wished, they could take advantage and overpower them, especially with the rise in human steel and iron.
In folklore it was said that is a Fae ever discovered a human to be a Seer, they would either blind and mute them, kill them, or kidnap them and make them their squall. Since the rise of the three Main Clans, however, most of the violence towards Seers ceased. With the truce and the formation of the other two main houses, Seers began to work together with the Fae in order to achieve the means to their own ends. All Seers know about the Fae and many are very well educated on the different types and their different customs. They can speak their language with ease, and many are now diplomats for the human race. But as the halfings are collected and war looms on the horizon, how will their relationship change?

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx❧ Rules ❧ ❧T his is to be a Literate to Adv. Literate role-play, meaning I expect you to post at least 8-10 decent sentences per post. The usual rules of no auto-hits or god-modding apply, and if I catch you doing either I will first warn you, then ban you on the second offense. If you can plead your case, I will think it over and (maybe) grant you some mercy. I do not want any plain posts, this means that you must include a picture of your character with your post as well as any extra trimmings you wish to add. (pretty text, icons, etc.) ❧I want this to be a fun, friendly environment, welcome to lit and adv. lit players of all ages. I will not tolerate any crazy sexual posts or remarks. If you're uncertain whether what you want to post is appropriate or not, feel free to private message me on it beforehand. This rule also applies to any gory or violent scenes. As for cursing and the like, I'd rather you not throw the harsher ones around all willy-nilly. (These would include words like the 'F-bomb', 'the C word', and other such things you wouldn't want your sickly grandmother to hear you say.) You're allowed a couple if you really feel the need to add them, but again, I'd rather you not.
❧I f you plan on leaving for an extended period of time, please inform me and the people you are interacting with before hand so we can know to wait for you (if it is within a reasonable amount of time). If you do not inform at least me on this and decide not to post for a certain amount of days (let's say four to five consecutive days) then we will move on without you. If you continue in such a pattern, I will send you a warning about letting your character fade into the background of the role-play. It will be up to you to read the posts you have missed. Also, I highly recommend you read every post rather than just ones concerning your character, just in case there is something you miss, like the introduction of a new character. ❧ Here is the list of Faerie creatures you can be, or chose to become in the case of a halfling. After choosing what you would like to be, send me your profile labeled as what creature you are or will become. If choosing to be a Seer, you may send me your profile labeled merely as "seer". Feel free to be any other type of fae that is not listed, but please, no vampires.

Hello, everyone! Currently we have four profiles accepted, but I would like a few more before we start, preferably some more Seers for the council, or at least a few more males. If anyone has any questions or would like to chat on ideas for the plot or whatnot, please post your comments in the OoC thread located at the top of this page. Thanks!

I linger in the doorway Of alarm clock screaming Monsters calling my name
Let me stay Where the wind will whisper to me Where the raindrops, as they’re falling, tell a story My name happens to be ѕ¢αяℓєтт вєℓℓє кαнℓєя. Do not forget it. • ● •I'm destined to become A Pixie. Not like it would matter to you.• ● • ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ Even if you fall on your face, You're still moving forward. A small girl quickly opened a dorm room door, walked out, and shut the door behind her. The girl hurried on her way, long wet hair waving from side to side as she did so. "That must have been the fastest shower in the history of showers," she thought to herself, adjusting the bag on her shoulder. Her clothes were practically thrown on afterwards, and the only thing she managed to eat was an apple. Waking up late never was a good thing on school days. Although, waking up late in general was something she was almost growing used to. Maybe not to this extent, though.
It was easy to lose track of time while sketching or writing. At least, for Scarlett. The time was easily lost, along with possible sleep she could have gotten. But, whether she had actually gone right to sleep or not, her sleeping habits are awful. Always waking up, difficulties falling back to sleep, being unable to sleep in the first place, the list could go on. It was almost like, in the back of her mind, she didn't want to sleep, or something was keeping her from sleeping.
The office was in sight, and Scarlett's pace quickened to a slight jog. She didn't have to be, or want to be any more late than she already was. However, she nearly skidded to a stop when a male walked out. She was slightly shocked that someone else was this late, but shook her head slightly and continued into the office. Walking in, she made a small smile at the secretary. She seemed cheerful. Well, that was good.
After a brief conversation, Scarlett had left the office, pass in hand, and speed walking to her class. The other student was in sight, but Scarlett paid no attention and went passed him, not bothering to look back.
"Wait, what class was it I had again?" she thought, now frowning ever so slightly. She glanced down at the small watch around her slender wrist, twitching her nose. "During second period," she thought to herself. "But what the hell was my -- English. It was English," she thought, but still wasn't exactly certain. H e r e , I'll give you my phone number, When you worry, c a l l m e, I'll make you happy. . .
Handsome Seer: ℛ ʏ ɑ ɴ ℐʘsερʜ ℒ ɪ ʟ т ʜ εxx Ryan was bored.
The senior treasurer buried his head in folded arms, letting out an inaudible groan. He wasn't just half-awake, like most of the school usually is for the first few hours of the day, because he'd been up since dawn. Nothing like a good lap or two around the perimeter of the school to wake you up. True, there were some times when Ryan absolutely hated getting out of his soft, warm bed, but not wanting to break his routine, dragged himself out anyway. Most times, though, it was a delightful feeling to have energy slap you in the face. He was pretty sure today was one of those days.
However, having History first thing in the morning was not at all fun or interesting. The teacher had this uncanny ability to drone on and on and on, and really, Ryan didn't much care for the past. Ryan almost felt bad for the guy. Here he was, trying to give a thorough and intellectual lecture, and the entire class was pretty much giving him the hand. Ryan, included. Maybe they would pay attention more if he actually added a range of tone to his voice instead of just the one. Or if he just stopped teaching History. That'd be fine by Ryan.
He would soon be saved. The class was going to end in just a few minutes, and Ryan would be free. His gaze wandered over to the door as he plotted his escape route, and caught a glance of two students hurrying past. Tardy students? That was interesting. They'd pretty much missed the entire first period. It astounded Ryan how people could sleep so much. Ryan himself looked and acted the type, but he was more of an early bird.
The fact that they didn't get up when their alarm told them to amused Ryan. They probably missed so much in class. Suckers, he thought, and chuckled.
"Is there something about my lecture that you find amusing, Mr. Lilthe?" the teacher drawled. He blinked at Ryan through huge, square glasses that made his eyes a million times bigger.
Ryan blinked back and flashed a cheeky smile at the guy. He was tempted to say, "Can't tell. I didn't listen one bit." Instead he replied, "No, sir. In fact, I find your lesson absolutely engrossing." What a big, fat lie. The sarcasm practically dripped from his voice. How that was any better than what he was originally thinking of saying, he had no idea.
Maybe the teacher believed it, maybe he didn't; either way, he didn't seem in the mood to reply to Ryan's sarcastic remark and resumed the lesson. Maybe the teacher himself wasn't awake either. That was good. When teachers aren't awake, they notice things less. When they notice things less, Ryan gets in less trouble, and less trouble is always better.

Hope and pray that you'll never need me, But rest assured I will not let you down.
I'll walk beside you but you may not see me, The strongest among you may not wear a crown. Oh, my name? ѕเ๓๏ภ ค๔ค๓ нยภtєг. It's a pleasure! • ● •I think I'm supposed to become An Elf. Interesting, really. • ● • ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ It is not what we get, but who we become, what we contribute... that gives meaning to our lives. With arms outstretched before him, and his chin settled on the cold, hard desk, his blue eyes trained up at the teacher, watching them speak. Yes, he watched, but the words that came out of their mouth merely went in one ear and out the other. Simon, at this point in time, couldn't really bring himself to fully focus on school or learning. His mind, really, was elsewhere at the time.
What he was really thinking about was where he used to be. His old life, his friends, family, what had happened that he blamed himself for. He couldn't shake the guilt. He couldn't help feeling that it was his fault. If he was smart enough to realize something was wrong, if he would have kept a closer eye on things. Was she mad at him? Was he forgiven, or would he ever be?
Simon's eyes closed, and images of her in the hospital entered his mind. "No, no," he thought to himself, forcing the images away. Instead, he began to think of a recap on his morning. Up early, as usual. Showered, dressed, packed up the books, and walked around a little bit after a bowl of cereal. He found a new 'calm' spot. A fountain that was somewhat close to the school that looked like not many people hung around. Although, that could have been because everyone was either sleeping or off doing something.
Whack "Simon Hunter!"
Simon's eyes flashed open as his head sprung up from the desk. His widened eyes stared up at the teacher for a moment, now realizing she was smiling. "Uhh," he began, and started scratching the back of his head. "I was.. Paying attention," he said and let one corner of his mouth curl into a smile. The teacher made a look as though she didn't believe him, bringing Simon's eyebrows to furrow slightly. "The answer is butterscotch," he said, as if to lighten the situation. For himself, at least. A few people snickered at the comment, and the teacher seemed to even smirk a little before walking to the front of the class again.
Simon slumped in his chair, letting out a sigh in relief. It seemed a few people were still looking at him, as though trying to read his expression, but he ignored them and acted natural. His fingers tapped on the desk a couple of times as he focussed his eyes on the teacher once again. _____________________________________________________ "Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about." Ⓐⓜⓔⓛⓘⓐ Ⓞⓟⓗⓔⓛⓘⓐ Ⓡⓐⓨⓔ ╄ Night is coming, all light is fading XXXXXXOpen your heart to the magic's spell. ╄ ✰☽✰☾✰ The old analog clock held the attention of the class better than the lecture in history class, all except for the girl beside the Lithe kid. Her eyes were completely closed under her combed forward bangs that drifted down to the tip of her nose. The rest of her hair ended somewhere between her ears and just barely touching her neck, but it wasn’t a masculine style on her petite, yet girlish, figure. It was hard to discern that so early in the morning, however, because she was slumped forward, elbows on her desk. Her breathing didn’t give away her slumber, since the quiet class shared the steady and slow rhythm. It really was a boring class, but Raye’s snoozing seemed so genuine, one could imagine her greeting the teacher this morning with a wily “Nighty night!” before tucking herself into her seat for the next hour or so.
Needless to say, Raye hadn’t noticed the late students in the hall. It was a miracle she wasn’t one of them, at least not today. She’d been late at least once a week since school began, after all. Some of her peers took this as lack of ambition or motivation, even though she always scored well on exams. She didn’t particularly care if she looked bad, as long as somebody lent her notes for what she missed. There were more important things on her mind.
Not long after the exchange between Ryan and the teacher, the hand that propped her chin twitched just a tad bit. Her eyes slowly blinked open. She let out a long exhale, and brushed her hair out of her eyes. Her half-Hawaiian lineage made her stick out a bit in the European school, but the hair helped to mask it. What she couldn’t mask, however, was her unease now that she was awake. ✰☽✰☾✰ ╄ There's something waking up withinXXXXX Darkness that needs released. ╄ Post Layout by: Zimmzy
