The sunset in the distance forced its way into her vision as her eyes pried themselves open, at first it was blinding, so bright and then it dulled as her gaze adjusted. Blinking away the sleep collected in the corners of he eyes she looked around and found herself alone, she was sure her twin had been her when she allowed herself sleep. Unsure as to what the current situation was, or even where abouts she was she suddenly felt herself nervous. Peren hadn't been in the world long, and there was still so much she didn't know, had no understanding off!
She was part of a herd... and they where protected in the herds territory right? Or had she got that wrong, it was all very confusing, surely there was someone around? Her throat suddenly felt dry at the prospect of being lost, they hadn't had time to explore much yet and there was still so much she needed to learn...

Underneath the shiny surface of a deep river, a white streak swam by, scattering the fishes in its wake. Deneb kept his front legs tucked close to his underside, his eyes wide open at the rushing of the water past his face. Now that his tail was more grown in, he was prone to exploring the water around his home territory. Swimming through the rivers as fast as his little tail could carry him. His mane streamed behind him, rippling constantly like the folds of a silk blanket. Ears folded against his neck, he raised his head so his horn broke the surface, watching the affect it made on the water. Almost like the sharks he had heard of.
Happiness over his tail nearly exploding in him, Deneb ducked back down in the water as far as he could, brushing the dirt below him with one hoof. A cloud was released around him, hiding his lower half from sight. Doing a twirl in the water, he rose quickly and burst out in a shower of droplets to land back underneath. The whole thing took what last stamina he had, so he settled on the bank, turning to sit on his rump with his tail flicking the water like a mermaid.
Then he noticed the filly nearby. By her movements, she seemed lost. He turned over onto his side, propped up as far as he could go by his two hooves, and tilted his head.
"You're awfully young to be all the way out here."

The foal found herself completely off guard by the sudden burst of sound, jumping on the spot she turned to find it's source. As her heart took part in a marathon she dared look at the voice, tail flicking nervously she looked around to make sure it defiantly was the weird creature in front of her that had spoken to her.
Furring her brow she took in a sweep of the creature, she'd never seen anything like it! Though that wasn't saying much, she hadn't seen much of anything at all. Stilling her tail she calmed herself, this was herd territory and she had been assured that nothing bad could happen.
"You look funny." She blinked, stifling a laugh as her eyes hung on his tail, instead she looked at her own to compare and approached gaining a burst of confidence. "You have a horn like my father! but your all different." Then she couldn't help it and let out a little chuckle and clip-clopped a little closer, a smile starting on her lips.

Deneb was glad he never put a smile on his face. Because if he did, it would have been wiped off pretty quickly by the comments of the foal. It wouldn't say it hurt his feelings. At least not a great deal. He was quite proud of his tail and being a Nova. He would be more proud if he had wings. Then he could be a flying Nova! But a horn was good enough for him. A Nova had the best of both worlds. And in his opinion, the world under the water was the better of the two. Above was so dry and hot. If you were too hot below, you just went deeper.
Not to mention he could also do fun tricks in the water one couldn't on land. The lack of the two back legs made for easier agility. In the opinion of one who didn't know what it was like to have two, anyway.
"You look funny to me, too, little one," he joked, realizing she was probably too young to have seen a Nova, even far away. If the rest were anything like him, they wouldn't like it on land. To only be able to survive for a hour was a little stressful on the mind. "Who is your father?"

Blinking at his question she didn't have to think very hard, though she had only been in the world for a short time she had quickly come to realise that she was the daughter of someone others considered "important" whatever that meant. Not knowing why but knowing most where happy to hear of her origins and father she had no hesitation in answering "Lore is my father, someone said he's good at it too." Peren hadn't understood the full meaning behind that either but it sounded like a good thing to say at the time.
After she spoke the foal wandered over to the river and looked down into it then back at the strange looking male. "I guess you can't really walk like I can, do you live in the water?" She didn't know better about asking personal things, she was young with little to no experience of the world, to her she was just curious at the others origins. Peren wanted to know all about the creature who looked like her in some ways and of a different existence in other ways!

The Nova shifted his position, watching the foal wander past him towards the water's edge. Instinctively, he tried to shuffle his body closer to the edge, just in case she happened to fall in. It was deep enough an adult would have to swim to get to the other side and there wasn't much of a gradual increase in how deep it was from the bank to the middle. Once close enough, he slipped back beneath the waves, popping up head up over the surface. He paddled close, resting his forelegs on the shore like a swimmer in a pool talking to someone standing on the side.
Deneb didn't have to toss the name around in his head for long before he recognized it.
"I know Lore. By sight. We share the same three half-siblings." That was the most he knew about Tenar's other mother's vast family. Deneb tended to keep to his own side, too busy in his learning off his mother and writing different things for his sister to sing.
At the next question, he tilted his head, a drop of water falling off the edge of his nose. "Yes. I can't stay on land for very long. But I prefer the water. I don't like the air's dryness. My sisters have four legs like yours. And my mother. Her name is Azha." The Nova puffed up his chest at the last sentence. It always made him feel proud to have an Elder like Azha as his mother. Though he looked almost the spitting image of his father, he could never remember meeting Mercury. Perhaps he had once but had forgotten or was too young.
