Saya reflected, there was a lot of work to be done. She promised she wouldn't sigh as she thought of it but the temptation to was awfully hard to resist. Her fingers linked together, in a quick gesture of a good luck prayer, before she unfolded from her sitting posture. breaktime was over and work time had begun.
She asked Prompto, as she stood, on his opinion on where she should head first to.
Hm. Isn't that a better decision for you to make?
"I guess I could go back and ask for nakama to help."
But Saya wasn't confident on going back to the underground base just yet. At this point, she only had Prompto though. Saya's hand ran along a pink penguin keychain, taking it out to glance at it. Her head tipped to the side, walking idly in thought.

One thing after another- one talk after another- it made her realise she needed some time to herself, and now, walking away from Kat, her mind was beginning to feel almost at peace. Reine was at that strange mental state somewhere between overly emotional and extremely zen; her heart was still heavy, and she was still worried, but she'd come to terms at least with being gone for months.
Everything would be fine. And even if it wasn't... well. She'd cross that bridge when it came to it. Worrying had become something the trainee was used to, even though she felt like she really shouldn't. Overthinking things dragged you down, made you unnecessarily twitchy, which just made the margin for error bigger. Being cautious was one thing- being paranoid was another, and being paranoid wasn't going to help anyone.
Without the need to pack for her mission- you couldn't bring anything into a pod, anyway, except maybe a nice comfortable cushion considering you would be lying there for months- the life trainee considered herself on very temporary leave- less than twelve hours, in fact. There was still things to take care of, a few more goodbyes to say, but she could afford to relax a little, maybe.
Where by 'relax', she supposed she meant a visit to Mister Cuddles in the dorms, and maybe killing a few more monsters. If she had limited time left, she wanted to make as good use of it as she could. It would be her own way of saying goodbye to the place- her way of remembering what home was like, in case she ended up somehow never coming back.

Saya spotted a familiar figure, perhaps the most familiar of all, considering recent events. That girl in the short distance ahead of her .. Her delicate features, the outfit that Saya had admired on a extremely short occasion and her icy blue hair. Saya was beginning to learn, if she didn't act now, she might never have a chance to.
Her feet moved quickly, crossing the short distance. Her hand reached out to lightly tap the other's shoulder, unsure of what to identify her as. Perhaps, she was one of the party leaders that Justin was telling Saya about. Or perhaps, a second in command?
"Um .."
She wasn't sure how to start the conversation. It had been easier in the fast pacing of the fight to talk.
".. I wanted to thank you. For earlier. When the Julie incident happened!"
Clumsily, Saya gave a low bow, crossing and linking her fingers nervously.

The tap on her shoulder surprised her- turning, Reine almost hoped it wouldn't be Eva, because she wanted to be the one to approach her friend to give her the news in person- but that particular worry ended up being unfounded. The person who approached her was someone she only had a vague impression of. Reine was trying to rack her brains, where had she seen this girl before.. ?
Oh, right. The mention of 'the Julie incident' brought a frown to her face, and she struggled to at least keep her expression impassive. Maybe it had just been 'the Julie incident' to this other girl, but Reine.. Reine hadn't just had to deal with someone she cared about having a complete mental breakdown, but also one of the superiors she was genuinely fond of being tortured in the most cruel way possible. She'd had to fight Julie, in the end- she could still remember how the swordbreaker slashing out at Julie felt, and how much her own heart had hurt then. Just the thought of it made her feel sick again, and she had to look away from the girl bowing to her.
"No problem." She wasn't even sure what she was being thanked for- helping to take Julie down? The life trainee had no idea what this stranger wanted from her, but she didn't want to deal with this right now. She'd thought she'd mostly gotten over Julie's death, after the chat with Marcus, but grief didn't fade easily- and while that was something she'd known from before, it was becoming clearer and clearer with each passing moment.
Reine wished she still had some of that chocolate she'd shared with Kat.

Reine's initial frown made Saya realized she worded that badly. But Saya had no clue how to put it elsewise, her hands gesturing randomly and awkwardly. Miss Julie, the moon division assistant-- Saya's division-- had been a figurehead that Saya looked up to. Perhaps, warned away from a lot but regardless, a really sweet person. Her cake had said much about her character, mainly that Miss Julie was someone that Saya wished she had gotten to know. Perhaps she had come too late.
"I didn't mean it like that. I meant .."
She took a deep breath, trying to get a clearer grasp on her words.
".. for saving Justin. In battle, he was left behind all the rest and everyone just dashed forward. It's not my place to thank you but .. it's a relief to know that you had his back. It's like one of those party leader things. A person with higher levels of exp and everything can protect the party leader far better than a person with a really low level exp."
Apparently, Justin had been in the process of teaching Saya about levels. It had been a hard topic. Assumably, Reine was the "higher leveled character."

Reine's gaze remained impassive as she shrugged, though she was mildly surprised- was it that obvious what she was thinking, even though she hadn't said anything out loud? Maybe the other girl was thinking the same as well, about Julie- the life trainee only just noticed that the jacket Saya wore had the Moon division's emblem on it; it was likely they had known each other.
The other girl certainly looked flustered enough- presumably, one of the new trainees, then. At any other moment Reine might have been a bit more tolerant, a bit more accomodating- but not when she had a time limit to work on, and her own problems to deal with.
"They were just doing their job. And he should have been doing his." It was easy to say this now- it had been so much harder to come to terms with it. Even so, it was something she didn't completely mean; if any of them had really had a choice, Julie wouldn't have died. Justin, too, meant a little more to her than she'd thought- maybe because he'd stayed by her, waiting for her to wake up again. She had just been returning that favour out in the Sahara; when he needed her, she would be there.
And she'd grown to tolerate his idiosyncrasies, even appreciate them to some extent- but she was in no mood to listen to a complete stranger ramble about video games. Just one weirdo was more than enough to fill that particular quota.
She had no idea how to deal with another.
