Kat knew something was happening around here, yet she had no idea what it was. And then she walked into the lecture, just as she had heard Reine accept to go on a mission for several months! Several months! Of all the--she just wakes up, and now Reine was leaving? What exactly was going on here?

Waiting back out in the hall for the life hunter to enter the hallway, Kat shifted her position, huddling for warmth in the coat she had stolen from Mark as she leaned against the wall. Finally, Reine exited into the hall, and the sun hunter made a grab for her arm as she was passing by. "Your leaving?"

Kat felt the words come out in an almost whine, but she couldn't help it! She was hoping to catch up with everyone, including Reine, and she felt as though she was missing them all over again.

After the talk with Clarice, Reine had thought to head straight back to the underground base to sort her things out, or maybe even go back to the dorms for sentimentality's sake- it was the last time she'd be able to do that for a while, even if the whole place was still covered with fog- she wasn't completely ready for goodbyes, yet. Those plans fell through the minute someone else's hand grabbed at her arm- surprised, the life trainee lost her balance and fell right into Kat's arms.

You're leaving?

She found herself unable to answer for a moment, tears welling up again in her eyes. It wasn't permanent. It might last a long time, but she'd come back, and they'd all be here still. They had to.

Pulling herself away, she tried to blink away the tears fogging up her vision, finally resigning herself to using the sleeve of her jacket under the pretense of dust in her eyes.

"For a few months, yep." Reine tried to keep her tone upbeat, mentally convincing herself it wasn't such a big deal. "I've missed you," she murmured, moving to hug Kat. "I haven't seen you around for a bit- have you been okay?" As if a thought suddenly struck her, she rummaged in her pocket, pulling out a chocolate bar- loot from one of her ventures into the main buildings with Rep- that she offered to the other girl.

Settling onto the ground, Reine patted the area beside her, as if inviting Kat to sit down- there was time enough to catch up, if the other girl was free- and if not, this area was quiet enough for her to sort out her thoughts alone.

The labs were safe, too, which made her feel a little better, because that meant if they kept up with killing the fog-creatures, the rest of the compound would eventually be safe again. Maybe by the time she got back, things would be back to normal.

She could only hope.

When Reine lost her balance, Kat made sure to hold her steady, patting and rubbing her lightly on the back. She wasn't sure what was going on, but it was something big. When the girl pulled away, she made no attempt to stop her. Instead, she waited patiently for her to answer.

A few months? She heard several. that was more than half a year! At least! Where was she going, and what would she be doing that would require her to be away so long? If it was anything dangerous--her thoughts were interrupted when the life hunter moved to hug her. Responding in kind, Kat hugged the girl close before releasing her again, and taking a spot on the ground beside her. "Eh..I was on..uh, lay away." Half grinning, she re-adjusted the stolen coat she had. This coat was no where near as comfortable as her own.

"What's been going on around here? The last thing I remember happening around here, was there was frost on the ground. Now..now everything seems to be really dire." And where were the others? Were they all off on missions too? Or were they all just not around here at the moment? There was so many things she wanted to ask, but she didn't want to overwhelm the poor girl with loads of questions.

"You changed your look." She smiled, batting a strand of hair lightly from Reine's face. "Its a nice look for you."

"Since Christmas, huh?" That seemed like such a far-off memory, now, and it brought back a twinge of pain in her heart; Christmas she associated with Julie and cookies, and.. Julie was dead now.

"I guess there's been a fair bit going on." Where.. should she even start? "We've been on a bunch of missions. Standard stuff, I guess." Where 'standard' apparently meant people dying. Sandy, Barney, Julie... and then there were all the injured people.

"Basically the higher-ups were going after these.. uhmmm, horsemen. Remember back when they captured four of the things, and made us watch over them for a while? Turns out there are a whole ton more of them, like, so many I can't even count. They're disgusting creatures, too, they-- ugh." Even more painful memories of her own mission, and how she'd had to watch her friends suffer in front of her. But Kat didn't need to know that, not when she'd just gotten out of a pod; there had to be something.. good that had happened? Some kind of good news she could come back to?

The awkward pause lasted almost minutes; there was nothing Reine could come up with-- other than the conclusion of the last mission, she supposed.

"I don't know what happened exactly, but we- well, the higher-ups destroyed all of them. Or most of them, anyway. Like there was this huge explosion, and everything just blew up. The fog along the corridors? Those are the remnants of the dead horsemen. So I guess all in all it was a win."

She'd ended up staring at the ground, one finger tracing spirals on the floor as she spoke. It hadn't been a win without any losses- and it was true, in some sense, that the end result was what mattered most, but it was still hard to forget the failures, and to get over the grief.

Startled by Kat's sudden gesture, Reine made a soft meep! of surprise, blushing a little at the compliment.

"Thanks," she grinned, reaching up to twirl a lock of hair. "I'm still not used to it- I've never had my hair this short before, but I don't think about it that much anymore." Speaking of changes, the Sun trainee had changed, too- a little paler, probably from all that time in the pod, and her hair had grown longer. She felt a sudden inexplicable surge of protectiveness over the other girl- Kat was one of the people she wanted to keep safe, one of the faces she still wanted to see when she came back, if she came back.

"Promise me you'll keep yourself safe," she said abruptly, turning to look at the Sun trainee straight in the eyes. "I know I'll be fine- or I think I'll be fine, but I can't help but worry about you guys, if you have to go on missions and stuff, where it's dangerous. It's-- it's part of being a hunter, I know, the element of risk and stuff, but I just.. I don't want to lose anyone, anymore."

Kat nodded in response when she confirmed that she had been stuck in the pods since Christmas. Wow..from the sounds of things, she had been asleep for months. When she thought about it, it was kind of depressing. No doubt, everyone was further ahead in their training, and had worked on honing their skills. But she..she was far behind. It would take a lot of effort to catch up to them now. If she could catch up.

It was hard to imagine what all had been happening while she was asleep, and she was not sure she wanted to think about it all. From the sounds of things, it was dire..and she wouldn't be surprised to hear they had casualties. In fact..she was expecting it.

Kat listened quietly as Reine gave her a recap on everything that had happened, only interrupting at times to ask for more information, or to clarify what she meant. The one that shocked her most, was the news on the four clans having been destroyed. How could she had been sleeping through something like that? Guilt was definitely hitting her right now. She should have been up. She should have been there to help everyone.

Bowing her head slightly, she continued to listen as she went on. When she was finally finished, Kat loosed a large sigh. "I'm sorry..I should have been there with you guys." She doubt she would have made much of a difference, but still..every person helped.

Smiling at the life hunter, she folded her arms over her knees, resting her cheek on them as she watched Reine. "Its adorable. I think all the boys will be tripping over themselves when they look at you." Grinning, she let out a small snicker at the thought.

Raising her head again, Kat's smile faded as the girl spoke. "That's not going to happen, Reine. We're all going to be fine, and so will you. Just promise me, that you will keep safe while your away. I don't know where your going, but..just stay safe." Tugging the girl closer, she gave the life hunter a tight hug before releasing her again. "Be sure to kick a** as well, okay?"

In the short time she had been at Deus Ex, she had made little friends..but those she had had become friends with, were very dear to her. Reine was one of those people. She even felt a somewhat sisterly bond with the girl. So to know that she may be in danger where she was headed, made the sun hunter worry.

Reine didn't know what to say; you were better off not there? Instead she put an arm around the other girl's shoulder. "At least you're safe," she smiled, trying to be reassuring. "That's all that matters." There will be other missions for you to risk your life in, she thought; and I won't be able to be there for you, either.

"Boys are stupid." Thank god for the change in topic, even if it was one she wasn't entirely comfortable with either. "I mean, really! They--" ... well. "Maybe some of them aren't entiiiirely stupid." Just a bit stupid, like Justin, who also inexplicably beat her at almost everything. Shrugging, she looked away, but let Kat pull her closer, enjoying the other girl's embrace. It was likely she wasn't going to get any hugs for a while- or rather, she did not want halloween hugs; this would be as good as it was going to get for a long time yet.

"I promise." A more genuine smile, this time. "Thanks, Kat. I'm glad I got to see you again, before I have to leave."
