Meleena let out a deep breath that had been locked in her throat. The sun had long fallen behind the horizon and the stars were now starting to dot the sky. Meleena was just beyond the borders of the Moonlight Herd. She came out this way sometimes when she wanted to forget. Forget. How she wished it was that easy.
Since she had come to this place her brother and sister had joined her, and finally her mother. Her only solace was that at least Drayus had also come, he kept Arei in check slightly.. Meleena now had many more siblings, she even had two daughters and a son of her own. And soon, very soon even, she was to be a grandmother again, even a great grandmother as her grandson Calais was also having children. Despite being unable to find a mate of her own, this had brought joy to her. She hoped life would be easier for them than it had been for her.

Starlight, moonlight, they were things that made life more simpler to a twilight colored mare. Her long, curved, golden horn reached skywards as her liquid gold eyes watched as the stars, her children, popped into sight. How long had it been since she left them to start a new life from the starscape? Too long and she had wandered in and out of the lives of others throughout her own life. Now she wandered betwixt and between the waking worlds. Cresting a small slope she had been walking, yellow hooves rested in the long grass as the rustic red and purple mare looked out over the world beneath.
"Those to fall, be born again. To find another, a one true friend." She uttered almost in a dream like way, eyes glazing over before she shook her head clear. She wasn't sure what it meant, but she moved off the ridge and unknowingly in the direction if the Moon herd and their wandering leader. Well one of them anyways.

Meleena's hooves continued to wander further out into the grass, until she finally reached a long winding river. This was a river she had visited often, she had named it Ilikra, which meant "liquid ribbon" in her father's language for it danced around the land as did a ribbon on a dancer. She had come to love this river, it was clear and beautiful, though also somewhat shallow. It made for a good wading pond to cool down in when the night air was too hot. Taking a few steps into the water, she began to close and hum to herself, a tune her father had taught her.

Her travels brought her closer to others all the time, but this time it felt different. Janna approached the same river another mare was standing near. Her mind fogged over by the message that had wrapped itself around her mind. Lowering her head to drink, it was now that she noticed another elder much like herself. This one was very lovely in color, she even sported a horn from her forehead and lion like tail. She didn't bother drink, but wander over closer to the mare on the other side of the river. Long tail flicking behind her, it unnaturally dragged the ground where others she saw kept their own above the ground.
Stopping again she tilted her head to one side, observing the mare. "Hello there" she greeted her voice a little raised unsure if the mare across could hear her other wise, then again she wasn't all that sure of the distance between them.

Her head twisted around when she heard the voice, her song dissipating. "Um, hello." She returned the greeting with a slight hesitation. It was obvious that she wasn't that use to others, despite being a Herd Leader. "I hope I wasn't bothering you." Meleena immediately recognized the star pattern on the other female's coat and thought she might be from the herd, but she knew she had never seen the female around so she couldn't have been. "Your pattern... reminds me a little of my daughter." She stated out loud with a little smile pulling at the ends of her lips.

Janna's head had to turn a little as she looked over her star studded coat before looking back to the mare across from her. "It is I who should apologize, you were here first." She said a little meekly, backing up a pace or two from the water's edge. "I seem to have been drawn here, unsure of why." Janna said more to herself, but was loud enough for the other to hear her.
"So you have family around here? It has been so long since I have seen another since leaving my homeland." She glanced back to the river between them. "My name's Janna, do you mind if I cross? It might make things a little easier." she smiled warmly, a cloven hoof pawing at the stony river side.

Her head bounced up and down in confirmation, "Please, by all means." She then twisted, her snout moving back over her shoulder. "My family's Herd is back that way, not too far. Its a Herd dedicated to the Moon and Stars. Judging by your pelt you'd fit in well there." She gave a quick smile. "Its a pleasure to meet you Janna, my name is Meleena, I'm one of the Herd Leaders of the Moonlight Herd." Her head lowered in a small bow.

Janna gave still a warm smile as she stepped into the night chilled water, though it was true that the river was always a little cold. Wading across she pulled herself up close to the other mare and shook the water from her coat, while trying not to get the other wet. "There, that is better" She grinned before looked in the direction of the herd the mare was said to be a leader of. "The Moonlight Herd, sounds like a nice herd to be a leader of Miss Meleena."
At the mention of her own pelt, this raised a small laugh from her. Head bobbing a little in the effort not to over due it. she watched Meleena with liquid gold colored eyes that seemed to sparkle the same way her horn did in the moonlight. "So it would seem. Back home we had many herds, most separated themselves from the moon and stars. Your herd is the first I have heard of being dedicated to such." her head turning to the side a little.
"Might I be a little bold to ask why you wander far from those of your herd?" Janna's head tilted to the side again as her ears flicked back some. She hoped not to step on Meleena's hooves with the question.

Meleena's smile waned just a little, "Its not always nice when its your family." There was a little bit of a sadness showing through in her eyes. "I guess in a way I've always felt alone. Its been worse since my mother has come back. So I come out here to get a better perspective on things, to clear my thoughts. I guess as ironic as it is to my other statement, it is sometimes good to truly be away from others, especially those that are causing strife." Her lips formed a hard line that she tried to force into a smile.
Lifting her head, she looked up toward the stars, "My mother was once a moon, and thus my herd is dedicated to the ambiance it gives. Its kind of... a family thing. My brother has markings from the sun, my sister the moon, my mother the stars. I'm more or less the odd duckling." She chuckled softly as her eyes laid upon the other female again. "The night is our domain, therefore we try to give it the praise it deserves. A star, the moon.. not even the sun could shine without the darkness. And that darkness.. in my family... is me. I suppose that is how I fit in. However, because of it I never truly will."

Janna's ears flicked back and eyes closed as if someone had hit her. Shaking her head a little she looked back to Meleena. What she had spoken of sounded really complicated and that much family in one herd sounded like chaos. Thinking back to her own herd in the stars, she was known as a twilight mare. One who wasn't day or night, but in between. But her home herd wasn't much of a herd, anymore. "Sounds like a lot of members and at times chaos. I was an odd one to my family, I was neither day or night, but the one in between. But I vaguely remember what my family was like to begin with." she too looked to the stars over their heads. "For the most of them are still up there. Others have been lost. You are lucky to have so many around you."
She didn't mean to make the air around them even the more gloomy, but the mention of family and such things brought it out. Looking away from the sky, Janna again looked towards where the herd was said to be. She wondered how close knit it was, even with one that felt she was an odd one out. "Those to fall, be born again. To find another, a one true friend." Janna muttered again, but less eye glazing, it was more from memory, but it still puzzled her.

Meleena found herself nodding in agreement, "It must... be hard for you to truly be alone. Different or not, at least I do have my family." She felt ashamed, though she also couldn't help but stifle back a tear or two. "I'm hoping my father still resides up there, elsewise... " She didn't even want to think about what could have happened to him. Shaking her head back and forth at her own thoughts, "You..." She hoped she wasn't being too brazen, "If you like... you could always come back to my herd. That way you don't have to be alone. I'm sure they would welcome you there."

Turning her head to the side in thought, she had been alone for a long time now. She didn't mind being alone, but sometimes talking to herself made some she encountered think she was crazy. At the mentions of fathers, her gaze went ground wards. "My father winked out a long time ago, my mother is still there, but I fear he ain't anymore. I don't know if he has fallen to ground, or something else." he voice was a bit shaken, but she shook it away to brighter thoughts of joining Meleena.
"I will come back with you and see. It would be nice to be around others again. I'm not sure I will stay, time will tell?" She offered a hopeful smile, she was unsure about joining the herd. But if this herd was what Meleena had said it was, she might stay and flourish here.

Sniffing back some of her own tears, she shut her lids tight, shaking her head softly, "I apologize... its hard... to lose a parent... It isn't a subject I should have brought up so lightly." As her lids alighted, she viewed Janna and smiled just lightly, "Of course. You only have to stay if you wish to." Her cheeks flushed just slightly. "I don't wish to push you into something you don't want to do. It wouldn't be a good way to start out a friendship." Was she sounding too demanding? She hoped not. She didn't want to scare her away so quickly.

Janna shook her head before smiling kindly. "Its ok. it was bound to happen sooner or later. When a star fades, another is born. New life thrives forever in its place." though Janna wondered if her father was truly gone, there was no real way of knowing.
Stepping closer to Meleena, Janna was a head shorter then the older elder. Perhaps that had to do with her small build, Janna had been small even when she was a foal at birth. Her parents worried she might not have made it. Lifting her head slightly she watched the others expression. I would enjoy seeing your herd lands, if you will be my guide. The herd that sheltered my after my fall was a small one, rather loose in its members and held little land." she looked to the ground as she spoke. "We were too often pushed from what grounds we had by larger and more aggressive herds. Now I seek a place to call home again." She looked up again. "Perhaps my home lies here with you and your family." Janna tilted her head thoughtfully.

Giving a sad nod, Meleena listened intently to the female. "Sadly... its something I can relate to." She missed her father a lot and she knew her mother wouldn't be the same without him. In fact, her mother had been sleeping around with many others to fill the void that Meleena knew was there, rather her mother denied it or not.
Hearing the rest of her statement, Meleena's eyes flew open and she nodded quite fervently. "Oh! Definitely. I can show you all there is to offer if you'd like. We have a vast amount of lands to offer, my brother gained most of the lands in battle from some very savage wild animals. He's defended them ever since." She smiled softly in pride of her younger brother, he was quite the warrior and she admired him for that. "Either way, you'll be welcomed any time you would like to visit."
