Mentoring

As students being to narrow their interests and expand their abilities, Amityville staff as well as certain approved guests (such as Boogeymen and Trick-or-Treaters,) will begin to mentor those students in small, select groups. Mentorship involves everything from personal advice, training, and field trips to gain Human World insight and experience. Third year students are recommended to approach mentors whose field of study or profession is in line with their own post-graduation interests. Certain mentors have public or even hidden requirements before they take on a student!

Types of Mentors

Amityville Staff: each of these individuals has a great deal of ability in very specific areas. While mostly known for their classes, they do on occasion take a few individuals under their wing.

Trick or Treaters: known for pranks, world hopping, and hidden agendas, ToTer's actively recruit students at various schools. Being successful in the ToTC often means building a network of capable allies who can be relied upon for information, access, back-up, and many other uses. Students being mentored by a ToTer may find themselves learning a very odd array of skills. More information on them can be found here.

Boogeymen: An umbrella term for Halloween's armed forces, they deal in everything from the military to small-scale police work. Because of how seemingly diverse they are, most fail to realize how specialized each division and part of the Boogeymen are. Students who mentor under them will be expected to find or create their own particular niche in their organization, however anyone that does wish to mentor under them will be expected to work hard and receive little in return. Privileges in the Boogeymen are earned, not given.

The OOC

For now Mentoring is limited to Y3 students, until we know how both staff and players handle it!

Think of mentoring as much smaller classes (anywhere from 1-5 students) that is ongoing, not open, and you can only select one or two to join. They can be run very much like a regular class, or like a training course, or missions that may vary from serious business, to grunt work, to strange errands. Your student may still take regular classes, mentors are just our way of providing a way for your student to ICly focus on a certain subject/skillset/career. Mentors are also more open for PRP requests to help guide/harass your student on a more personal level.

Once you've decided on a mentor and met their requirements, please PM the mentor player. Remember, communication is the key to everyone's satisfaction!

Mentors & Students

Picking a mentor is a definite commitment for both GM and player. While real life happens, and we'll do our best to make sure no student is stalled if other players or their GM aren't able to be active for a time, these are not something that should picked up and dropped one after the other. Put time and thought into your choice, and remember to communicate any do-wants or problems to your GM or an admin.

Mentor NPCs will only be taking on a limited number of students each, and may have special requirements for your students to be eligible. It's suggested that you have at least several in mind, rather than pinning your hopes on one specific mentor.

Abilities

You can learn skills and abilities from this, though they likely will be more mundane and won't involve gaining Meteor Powarz. Things such as regular stealth, demonic accounting, blending in with the humans/their world. A history teacher might give new insights about Halloween's past, a Trick or Treater might teach your student to pick locks, while a Boogeyman may teach a student the basics of tracking. This isn't to say they may not get more battle skills or those that involve enhancing or increasing their more "powered" abilities, but these will be fewer and mixed in with the more mundane ones.

  • Professor QB: Generally takes the form of a small minipet- like creature for travel convenience, this guest lecturer can be reached and contacted if one wishes very hard from the core of their Fears. He is a part of DETH, and thus also highly educated in the subtle dealings of the Human World, and inter human-Halloween relationships, from a relatively pro-Human perspective.
What to expect: Well aware of the world situation, Professor QB is blunt and will always speak his mind, or so it seems. He will do his best to fulfill the wishes of students, as long as they fulfill his terms of contract.
    Student Limit: 3
    Requirements:
    - Successfully complete his Open Class
    - Offer him one Grief Seed (the item on the minis site)
    Player: Zoobey

  • Moira *********> This headcrab zombie is the school janitor, but don't let the supposedly menial title fool you - among other things, Moira is Lord of the Gnomes, commanding the cranky minions of Amityville with effortless charm (and the occasional creepy concoction). She also has a small army of home-built robot servants.
What to expect: Moira is an expert in mechanical design and salvage, as well as being unobtrusively powerful and competent - she's quite a bit more canny than she seems at first glance! She understands how to make unlikely, seemingly unimportant things into valuable resources, and she's happy to pass that knowledge on to others.
    Student Limit: 3

    - Have passed the solo version of Trashology 101.
    - Seek her out in her office and ask her to teach you!

    - Bring her an offering. No hints available.
    Player: Marushii

    Trick-or-Treaters

  • Noxious Firth: a young Ifrit and Amityville's lead Trick or Treat Recruiter, known for pranking, a large collection of bombs, getting kidnapped, and being kind of an obnoxious jerk.
What to expect: Human World trips, social networking, minion-status, bad attitude
    Student Limit: FULL
    - Bul
    - Jericho
    - Roch
    - Sammy
    Requirements:
    - You need to have completed his Trial by Fire course!
    Player: lizbot

  • Desu-Chan: Tiny, easily distracted and flippant, she's not really chatty much aside from text messages, but even those are hit and miss. Her anger is quick and if there is a table, it will be flipped. Her specialty is the unexpected and the illogical. Messing with people is what she does best.
What to expect: Lots of strange tasks and goals, often unrealistic. Also glitter and the human standard of 'cute' things.
    Student Limit: 5
    Requirements:
    -Make Kirakira eyes at her
    -Flip a table with her
    -Own a pink minipet
    Player: iStoleYurVamps

  • Noland O'Facey: A very basic ToTer who takes his job very seriously. You go in, you scare, you get out. He doesn't really handle frivolous activity well, which means the typical prankster lifestyle of a ToTer displeases him, and whenever he turns to pranking for his job it's with a high level of unease.
What to expect: Really the best lessons you can expect to learn from Noland is how to stay silent, because he's not going to talk much. But typically his lessons will focus on work ethic, staying on task, stealth, invisibility, and learning how to use the resources available to you in a pinch.
    Student Limit: 3
    -Shun Kuroda
    -Levis Coneseed
    -
    Requirements:
-Prove you've taken at least one class in Amity already
-Own a fully grown Kodama minipet
    Player: Nio Love

  • Luna: A floaty sort of ghoul who is much better met at night rather than during the day. She is fond of collecting objects, particularly fancy or silky fabrics. Luna's little hidey hole is lined wall to wall with silks and other elaborate clothes sewn together into beautiful (if crude) tapestries. Besides cloths, Luna often picks up and drops hobbies, as not much keeps her attention for long.
What to expect: Excursions into the human world to take the nice, pretty things from the silly little humans-- as a result, a strong understanding that timing is everything. When to strike, and how to get out fast with your phat lewts.
There will also be quests to collect her current obsession, to send the students scurrying away to beg, barter and plead until they come back with what she wants.
She says it builds character, you know. Do not question Luna.
    Student Limit: 3

    Requirements:
-Be in the possession of at LEAST one minipet that has a type with the word 'dream' or 'time' in it. Link it please!~
    - A way to get to her hidey hole at the TOP of a tower of the Monster dorms! Either by:
    - Your own power of flight/climbing up the tall, precarious thing by yourself...
    - Another student that you're using as a taxi
    - Or, if you SEE HER anywhere, you could ask her for one!
    Player: all my feels

  • Seething with Rage: is not his real name, but he's commonly known as 'Rage' or 'SR'. While he might be unfriendly and seem like he doesn't care... Alright, he really doesn't care. However, between the Horsemen and Hunters? He'll take the 'stupid kids from that school' any time. Besides, when he sees someone with potential, he doesn't mind tapping into it.
What to expect: Lots of anger management via punching, screaming, yelling, trolling. Both taught and given. He's also pretty fond of field trips and fighting.
    Student Limit: 2 / FULL!
    -> Danny
    -> West
    Requirements:
    - Knows how to take/give a punch
    - Locate/Contact him, because he's sure not coming to you
    - Does not have a good rep with Malcolm
    Player: Dragain

  • Porter Mulch: (Old Batty) is a senile old doppelganger whose specialty is blending in through the use of shapeshifting. Too bad most of the student body can't look like anyone they want with a thought.
    ;;
He understands your pain (not really) and will work with you to become the best you can be at hiding in plain sight.
What to expect: Silly costumes, Fighting Fantasy-style CYOAs, artP.
    Student Limit: 2
    Requirements:
    - Have fought him once or completed his open class
    - Come up to him and ask
    Player: Smerdle

  • Agent F (Mysterious Stranger)
The Mysterious Stranger, known to some as Agent F, is a paragon of paranoia. Around every corner is a conspiracy theory, usually involving government, aliens, or both. He's always well dressed and has a closet in a basement somewhere (probably his mother's) filled with suits, ties and sunglasses.
What to expect: He a little odd and a lot off his rocker, but when it comes to looking sharp, making up outlandish stories, and dramatic exits, he's your man. Mentor with him, and never have to resort to boring excuses like 'the vile stray ate my homework' again.
    Student Limit: 3
    Requirements:
    - Make an Agent ID (I have a template rofl)
    - Report at least one instance of 'suspicious alien activity' to his mail account
    - Submit a drawing of an alien for his 'files'
    Player: Ravvlet
