Red Squad HOME BASE:

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Welcome to the Red Squad Home Base. Inside the home base tent are a couple cots in addition to tables holding about a week's worth of simple supplies, though there is no food around. For some reason with this gask mask on, you never feel hungry. Or thirsty. Or like you need to use the bathroom, though you still feel sleepy from time to time and worn out. The home base itself is a simple tent, easily identifiable by its bright red material.

SUPPLIES:
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Your home base shelter for your group comes equipped with all necessary supplies. Inside the accommodating tent lie three tables. The first table simply contains exactly enough first aid kits to supply each participant, all neatly organized in rows of six, one for each person.

The second table seems to have been organized with a fair amount of dedication, on each backpack is written only a number. Once again, there are exactly enough backpacks to supply each participant with one med kit, organized in rows of six.

The last table is the simplest of all and simply contains one map.

Not much else is marked on the map.

((OOC: ICly post to pick up your supplies, and ROLL ONE 6-sided dice to determine your weapon that is in the bag you randomly picked up:

1- A handgun, but it is full of rubber pellets
2- A small dagger
3 - Extra bandages
4 - A small hand club
5 - A wooden stake
6. Small nunchucks

Please go to the Battle rules to make sure you read up on HOW TO BATTLE, and what effect your weapon has. ))

It is NOT SAFE to linger too long at home base, you can and will be attacked anywhere, including your home base should an intruder decide to step into this thread. How you want to travel and approach things is up to you, but make sure if you leave the thread note EXIT THREAD in your post to do so.

You may create personal PRPs ORPs and SOLOs within in this Past RP subforum. Please remember that your character don't remember their names, their pasts, or anything about themselves. They are, for the most part, blank slates. Physical reflexes and habits from their pasts may show from time to time, but aren't conscious or attached to any memories.

exclaim At no point can your character be in two threads at once exclaim

Rather than their real names, participants are simply given a Greek letter instead. Each symbol name is first come first serve, so be sure to bold your choice and let others know which your character is. There is room for disposables here, so if your hunter already did the Spring Testing but you want to help populate this set of RPs with a disposable, you're free to do so.

A woman clad in grey and black and red finds herself in what appears to be a tent of a similar colour scheme. She is not alone: there are others dressed in a similar fashion; covered up more than a swaddled baby in January. Although she does not know it, she has signed up for a rather vast undertaking.

In fact, she doesn't know much at all, which she also doesn't know, in some sort of Möbius strip of ignorance.

She is a Candidate.

> Candidate: Wake up.

Candidate: Get your s**t together.

She awoke to red on red on black canvassing the tent and the people inside of it. The man with the voice had called them all candidates.

She supposed that since she was in similar attire, that she was classified as one of them, too. Whatever a candidate was. Whoever they were.

Standing, the candidate took a step or two with wobbly legs, irritated by that fact. She tried to think, but the wires were crossing and short circuiting, trying to speed up to compensate for prior sluggish behaviour.

Displeased by the state of her mind, the candidate decided to take a brief assessment of her current knowledge.

  • Goal: Survival for seven days. Why?
  • Yes, this is a test. What's the reward?
  • Her mind was tabula rasa, which she understood to mean that it was a blank slate. Why?
  • Removing the outfit would end poorly. Supposedly.
  • She voluntarily came here. Supposedly.
  • The strength of her suspicion kicked her in the teeth with its strength. It was not surprising, but she noted it for posterity.
  • The tent she was in must be the one the man spoke of. Supplies here.
  • Conclusion: Failure was not an option. Survive at all costs, question later.

As her mind parsed the last point, the candidate snapped out of her introspection. There was a task at hand, and she felt more at ease knowing that, if nothing else. She wondered, perhaps, if spending too long dallying with self-assessment was going to be a problem during the course of this week.

Deciding that it might be a risk to the goal, she vowed to keep such introspection at bay. The decision felt familiar, too. Every minute the candidate spent awake provided new details, and she couldn't help but think that it was more troublesome than enlightening.

With brisk movements and long strides, the candidate made her way to the first table. Gloved hands picked up the bandages that were arranged with perfect neatness.

The second table had various bags, all with a symbol written upon them. The voice had said they were to have a symbol instead of a name: perhaps there was an indicator. In a few quick moments, the candidate assessed herself. She was tall and broad across the shoulders. There were gloves on her hands and a full-body suit on the rest of her, tucked into a pair of combat boots. Fabric-clad fingers felt out a gasmask covering her face and head.

On her arm was a symbol:

The meaning floated into her mind, recalled from mathematics of long ago.

Pi. 3.14.

Her identity, for now, was Pi.

She didn't trust a goddamned thing around this place, nor would she arbitrarily put faith into the people around her just because they had signed up for the same thing that she had.

After all, it wasn't hard to be stupid.

The candidate awoke.

She - presumably she, there was no real way to know anything for sure here - woke in red.

There was an instinctual desire for red in her, it danced pleasingly on the mind.

A residual memory of an explanation, emptiness, a deep and nagging doubt, she'd chosen this. Logic followed that it was for a reason, a reason was a cause. She had to succeed in a cause. There was no failure. There was only survival.

She got to her feet and assessed what mattered. Supplies. Location. People. Location, un-blanking-known. People. Vague. Current mental state. Frustrated. There simply wasn't enough data to be going on. Only the red. Hands fussed with the mask before a recollection bubbled forth from the depths.

"I wouldn't try that if I were you, the results would be downright explosive," an urge to do it anyway, quashed by logic.

A table. A bandage, important. Bandages suppressed the red, the blood, restrained her red. She retrieved a bag. Bags were important. Resources were important. Things. All the things were hers, other people were merely borrowing.

Sidelong glance at her arm. A symbol there. Red also. This pleased her. A squiggle. A word.

ω
Omega

It felt like proclamation, a prediction. It was her. It was all she was here. The symbol and the red.

The current frustration was the fault of other people, she knew it. This was a mark against them. They were red so this would be accepted, for now. But it was a mark against them.

Marks were important

The first thing to register in his mind was red. He didn’t mind red. Red was familiar, but red was also the color of anger and blood and danger and a lot of troublesome things he preferred to avoid. He was ready to begin freaking out in an orderly manner, but he didn’t because he remembered the color red also meant stop, so he did. Instead, he tried to figure out where the hell he was and why, so he looked around the tent. He had only awoken for no more than a minute and already the red tint of his mask lens were already boring him. He felt tempted to pull the mask off, but instinct told him that the result wouldn’t end in his favor. He sighed. How troublesome.

Then he realized he couldn’t remember a damn thing about his life. What the hell was up with that? Had he gone through some alien abduction all of a sudden or something? No, no, he didn’t think it was that. His instincts told him he had agreed to this bizarre circumstance. He growled as he got to his feet and went to the table of first-aid kits. He swiped one and then waltzed over to the next table. He scrutinized the numbers on the pack he took. Curiously, he looked down at the sleeve of his suit and found a familiar symbol.

Beta.

The first thing that came to mind was beta radiation. He rolled his eyes. Of all the things to remember, he remembered chemistry. Brain, it would be nice if you could supply some memories of his past life. That would be really helpful right now.

Beta began to grumble to himself as he rifled through the bag. He suddenly piped down when his hand wrapped around something and pulled it out. Nunchucks. The hell? He didn’t know jack about fighting with nunchucks. This was going to be so damn troublesome.

Waking up was a traumatic experience in and of itself. She blinked open her eyes, and then shot up in the air, only to groan as the rush of waking up that quickly hit her. She fell back down, and put her hands on her head - no, a helmet. A helmet? Oh God, the memories of that little fill-me-in meeting slammed back into her, and her fingers curled as if to try and scratch the helmet away. Of course, her nails were completely covered by gloves, so she couldn't even scratch the helmet. In frustration, she smacked the helmet with her fist and almost knocked herself out.

Lying on her back again, she considered her options. Okay, so she could freak out for the remainder of her time until someone came to kill her. Or.. or she could get up.. and..

She sat up (slowly, this time,) and then pushed herself to her feet, moving to the table with supplies. In one hand, she grabbed a backpack and slung it over her shoulder, only vaguely noticing the little a stitched to her shoulder, signifying her name - Alpha. In the other, she grabbed a dagger and secured it to her waist. The thought of using it made her stomach churn.

She was going to lose this game. But she wasn't just going to sit idly behind and not even try.

She really wasn't sure what was going on.

There was a faint memory of a classroom. Classrooms were soothing. This one hadn't been very soothing. Survive for seven days, the teacher had said. And don't take the mask off.

Mask?

She put a hand up to check. There was a mask on her face. That was right. The lenses were red, bathing everything in a red glow. Seeing the world through rose-tinted glasses.

She giggled at that thought.

There were other people here, groggily getting up. Maybe she should get up. She sat up experimentally, then got up when she didn't get dizzy. That was a little odd. She often got dizzy when she sat up.

The other figures had symbols on their arms. Did she have a symbol too?

She did. ι Iota.

That was her name, right? Iota. Iota meant a small and insignificant thing. That felt right.

She took a bag from the table, humming dreamily to herself. There was a club inside the bag with the other things. Did that mean she was going to have to hit things? She didn't really like that idea. She didn't even squash spiders.

She didn't much like to fight, really.

The candidate awoke slowly, struggling through the haze that that fogged his mind. It was difficult to collect his thoughts. In fact, all he knew was that his head ached and he his body felt as though it was drained of all energy. Any other time, he would just allowed himself to slip back into a deep slumber. However, something told him that doing so now wouldn't be such a wise plan and when he opened his eyes, he couldn't agree more. All he could see was red.

...Red?

He touched a hand to his face, alarmed to find it covered by something. A ma---that's right... They were wearing masks and though panic threatened to arise, he recalled the man's words. They had chosen this. He had even shown them their names to prove this.

Names...?

What was his name again? Who was he?

"You'll also have a number to identify yourself."

The words echoed in his mind, and immediately he checked himself over, squinting through the red lenses of his mask to locate the 'number' the man had spoken of. Surely enough it was there. On his arm there was a symbol... no, a letter printed in red.

ψ

Psi? So this was meant to be his name for the time being? Whatever. Getting off the ground was more important for the time being... and he was going to need some equipment if he was to make it through this test. Equipment, which thankfully was provided for them. Evidently they didn't expect them to use sticks and stones. Though he wasn't sure how effective a handgun with rubber pellets would be. Still, he supposed it was better than nothing.

Sleeping was always a struggle with this Canidate, He'd rather sleep his day away then get up and face what was to come. So when he woke, he wondered if he should briefly...if anything go back to sleep so he didn't have to suffer through another day. The blink of his eyes open was met with filmed over covering on his face. It felt stale...breathless and warm, but mostly stale. Red...He just saw red.

He blinked again as he felt his body, Armor...Mask.

Chosen?

Oh...He had been chosen for something...but what? And why?

"Identify yourself."

He blinked as he felt around, looking for that piece of himself that would tell him who he was. On the back of his hand he noticed a small mark, staring at it.

ρ

Rho

So his name was Rho, Nice. Breathing in....He looked at the table and head to choose a weapon. Something told him he'd need it more then anything else. His eye's fell on a pair of Nunchucks and behind that mask was a serious grin.

"Rocking it like Bruce Lee here." He picked the chucks up, giving them an experimental test before smacking himself in the mask face. "Ow...Damn...Okay meant to do that...." In any case anyone was looking.

Iota wandered over to stand by Rho, looking up at him curiously. "You meant to smack yourself in the face? But why did you want to smack yourself in the face?"

Darkness. Heat. Panic. Noise. What was the word for it? Pandemonium. Pandemonium had been in her head since waking. Spots in her eyes, static in her ears, shakes in her lungs - and the thrum of her heart trying to manage it all to one rhythm. Or was the noise words? Someone, maybe a teacher, breaking uniform with its cloak, telling them how things were to be done that they had all agreed to this at some point. Funny, she couldn't remember signing her name.

What was her name for that matter?

Color was beginning to filter past her eyelids and noise was beginning to pour into her ears, and with a small groan she roused herself from the bed. It was hard to yawn for some reason, like air wasn't wanting to come through her mouth - mask, she amended, brushing a glove against her face. No pandemonium here: just a group of individuals in similar suits. Everything had a tinge of pink to it through the lenses. It was almost calming, like pastel flowers.

Blinking, she slid off the cot and stretched, finding that she was a short specimen of a human (or at least in comparison to those standing already) and light on her feet. She almost felt as if she'd glided to the table rather than walked, taking one of the bags and peering inside. Something glinted within; she picked it up curiously and found it to be a small dagger. The sheen allowed her to vaguely read what was printed on her chest.

ταυ

"I thought they said they'd give us numbers," she mused quietly, her voice distinctly feminine and soprano in quality. It looked like a word to her. On her left shoulder was printed a large τ. That was also not a number. Maybe she'd heard wrong?

She turned in time to hear one of the other people mention something about a Bruce Lee before whacking themselves on accident. And she found herself smiling under the mask, laughing a little. "Maybe to make sure he's really alive in there?" she suggested, unafraid to butt into the conversation even if she sounded as shy as a transfer student. "This feels like a dream to me." She held up her dagger for them to see. "But I stick the pointy end into someone right?"

The way she said it, it was almost hard to tell if she was joking or being very, very serious.

Rho looked up as two...and he hoped he had guess this right, Two ladies came to stand with him at the table. Not one to turn shy at the company of females....gasmasked and armored up but still females, He twirled the Nunchuck again.

"Maybe to make sure I'm alive, Maybe to test how much it hurts to get hit by one of these." His voice held an air of flirtatious fun as his mask looked down to the dagger in Tau's hand, "Well, if you wanna get it on then yes. Stick the pointy end in the someone were going to be battling. Cause I assume we'll be battling."

"Also, I like how durable these mask are..." He looked to Iota now, tapping the gas mask with the nunchuck butt. "It didn't break easily when I hit myself so...you...that probably means its strong armor or something."

"I guess we're going to be fighting," Iota said. She held up the club from her pack. "Do you think - I don't know if I can hit people," she said plaintively. "I mean, if I have to I guess I have to, but I don't know ... "

She edged closer to Rho. "Will you help me? I never fought before. I don't think I did, anyway," she added puzzledly, putting her free hand to her head as though that would help her dredge memories out of the blank space that was her mind.

"I think it's more about killing than battling," Tau commented in a morbidly cheerful manner. "You'll clock them on the head," she pointed to Rho, "you'll bash their kneecaps in," she indicated Iota, "and while they're down I'll stick 'em in the kidneys~" she finished with childish exuberance, poking the air with her dagger.

It was going to be that easy . . . right? Even with Rho proving the thickness of their armor, the stuff could only hold out so long. Well, so she hoped at least. Did she have it in her to stab someone? Hmm. Maybe it was one of those easier said than done things.
