Mary suppressed a shiver. Droplets of water beaded on her fur and picked up the soft chill of the springtime night. She had slept through the heat of the day, though not so deeply that she hadn't been able to tell just how warm it had been. They were now closer to summer than winter and the weather showed it. Still, the nights still hung onto some of that cold.

Starlight shimmered off the surface of the lake behind her. She had just finished bathing and the lake water still dripped from her mane and ran down her legs. She smiled softly to herself. Though she was philosophically distant from her Draculesti family, she couldn't fault their inclination for cleanliness. She turned to a red cloth lying on the ground and gently lifted it onto her back. It grew darker where the fibers soaked the water from her fur, but it would dry. Her stole was one of her precious possessions from her homeland, so she always treated it with the greatest care.

Now that she was clean, she let her mind wander over the plans for the night. Her brother Vlad was hunting, not something she wanted to be involved in. She'd have to find her own entertainment for a time. The first matter on the agenda was finding a little something to eat herself. She smelled a faint whiff of honeysuckle. That would do nicely. Folding her four wings to her side, she began to walk toward where she thought the vines might be.

It had been a terribly long day when he'd finally decided that sleep was in order. In truth it had probably been a few days but Hoto was unaware of it. Walking and running was better than thinking so he'd kept going and going. Until finally he'd noticed his head drooping and him legs shaking from exhaustion. It was accident that had placed his sleeping place on a comfy grass floor under a fragrant honeysuckle bower. He was sound asleep for once in what seemed like months. Throughout the journey he had slept lightly always in case of danger and fitfully most of the time because of an anxious ache in the bottom of his heart. Now he was sound snoozing and the only thing what would wake him short of shout was a arrow or gunshot as he was still a warrior. Something just never could be erased.

Mary found the honeysuckle and was soon browsing on the sweet flowers. Of all the flavors in the New World, this was one of her favorites. She thought that she even preferred it to apples or the sugary treats that humans sometimes carried. Unlike sugar, she could get honeysuckle whenever she wanted during the spring and summer, and where it grew it was always abundant. She nipped off another clump of blooms and blinked. Not too far away there was something that looked a lot like a soquili sleeping.

Slowly but curiously, she approached. She gazed upon him and her silver eyes traced over the markings on his coat. They looked like they each told a story, though she wasn't sure what stories they were. He looked very large and strong, and yet slept just as peacefully as a foal. Mary smiled softly at this unexpected find.

Hoto continued to sleep peacefully for several minuets as Mary ate. It took a long while before the smell of mare processed into his brain and he cracked open an eye. Still to tired to get up, he turned his head to look at the silver angeni. She was smiling at him even as the kalona like fangs gave him a start. As with the multi eye markings. She looked full angeni since she had all the wings in the right places, including behind her ears and on her back legs but looks could be deceiving. He knew that it was rare for an angeni and kalona to breed but it was not entirely unheard or. Just extremely rare. He also knew that one of those could have an unstable and ambivalent personality. So he gave her a hard look and decided his first words would be a warning. "If you mean to harm me, be warned that I am not such an easy target to take down."

Mary couldn't help but be amused at the threat. She let out a quiet laugh that rang out softly through the silent night. "I'm an angeni, you know," she scolded him with a good-natured smile. "You have more to fear from biting insects than you do from me." She was the least dangerous one to come from a very dangerous family.

She believed him when he told her he wasn't an easy target. His legs were thick and strong. He seemed to be quite the warrior. Even if she had been a wandering miscreant, she doubted that he was the sort she would have wanted to tangle with. Fortunately, she meant him no harm and doubted he would harm her either.

Interested now, he raised one black brow at her. "I'm aware of what you appear. But I'm too damn old to trust something that looks like one thing and could be another. Your fangs have me very puzzled." Deciding that she was no threat and his current sleeping place was rather comfortable, he didn't get up. Instead shifting his hooves into a position that he could get up quickly if he wanted. She could at least be a good distraction from his worries for a bit.
