Animus' bedroom. A very modest room, not only in size but in furniture. Here you can find Animus resting at times of great stress or if he just needs to hit the sack and sleep.

"If you make mistakes..."

Animus slid open the door to his living quarters, and slid it closed, as he entered his sanctuary. His room itself was of decent size, but extremely modest for a captain's standards, let alone for someone of his caliber. Sighing, he set down the katana that he held in his hands, which was a fake of his true zanpakuto, that he picked up from his room before heading on over to the captain's meeting. Setting it down on the drawer that was nearby his bed, he toke off his haori, and folded it, as this haori that he had on was his walking around haori, as he had a drawer full of very expensive clothing and other trinkets that he had accumulated over the years. Then opening the top middle cabinet, he placed his current haori in the compartment. He then grabbed a very elegant black box with a white ribbon tied around the box. Sliding the compartment shut, he then sat down and opened the box, revealing another sleeveless haori. However, this haori was a more cleaner and slimmer haori in comparision to the traditional sleeved or sleeveless haori. It was a much more contemporary look, with his squad's insignia placed on the back of it, in a very elegant manner. He then turned his eye to his zanpakuto, Ryūjin Jakka. Picking it up, and then unsheathing it by a few inches, he stared at the blade, which had the words 流刃若火 carved into the blade itself. Then thinking to himself. "Sigh. I guess I'l be using you once more old pal in battle." Sighing, once he got on his haori and with his zanpakuto strapped onto a sash that was on his back, he vanished using shunpu, as he headed on over to Viki's squad.

"...then you know well that your trying."

~ Leadership isn't about speeches or being liked...

Kenshin soon appeared in front of his new living quarters, as he stared at the door that separated his new room and his person. "This doesn't feel right. I've lived for so god damn long on my own without having the need for others, so why the hell is it that now I'm feeling so god damn conflicted? I was trained for this god damn job, so why the hell doesn't this feel right?" Sighing, he opened the door to his new living quarters and closed the door behind him. Looking around, he noticed that the room he was now assigned to live in was quite modest, particularly with the size of the room. Setting down his three katana's down near his bed, he then grabbed his actual zanpakuto from his right sleeve, as it was a very sleek and metallic katana. However, his zanpakuto was different from any other shinigami's, as it was with no guard, which was the very essence of making a zanpakuto unique for it's user. Kenshin placed this weapon on a stand that seemed to belong to Animus' zanpakuto, as he set it down and stared at it for quite some time. Sitting down in front of his zanpakuto, he began to perform Jinzen, as he needed to speak to his zanpakuto immediately.

As he performed Jinzen, he had a rather long discussion with his zanpakuto in regards to his troubles and personal advice in handling this new role of leadership that was assigned to him. Once he finished, he sighed, as he opened his eyes and stared right as his zanpakuto. Bowing his head out of respect, he soon got up and headed over to his bed and fell right onto it. Yawning, he closed his eyes and began to sleep, as he was exhausted from all the crap he just had to go through in the past 48 hours. Between the events that he was going through in the world of the living, being assigned to this new role of leadership, seeing a old comrade die and seeing his old rival still alive and still causing mayhem was becoming a bother for Kenshin. Falling to a deep sleep, Kenshin was snoring rather loud, as he was deep into his slumber. However, he may have seemed peaceful while he was asleep, he was going through a rather violent dream, as he was seeing the captains of the Gotei 13 being slaughtered by the hands of the Taizai. He tried desperately to stop this massacre, but his zanpakuto was refusing to fight and he was being overwhelmed by Wrath. Suddenly, he was stabbed in the chest by the hands of Wrath, as he immediately woke up and yelled in pain, as he was sweating a lot from such a vivid dream. He sat up, as he leaded against the wall and stared down at the floor with a very troubled look on his face. "Why do these dreams of failure keep haunting me?"

Harumi was a bit tired after all that exhausting talk with the long haired man, after all they have gotten two important points across as well as reminded her about her Captain's dead. As Harumi walked through the Squad 1 corridors she could hear the men speaking about the arrival of this new figure that was suppose to be the new Head Captain, indeed she had heard a lot of good things about this man but she still missed Animus, his warm nature and the way he was so passionate about reading and peace it truly inspired her. Yet he was now gone and all that was gone with him but no matter she knew she still had a duty as lieutenant and she wasn't going to fail to get through with it.

As Harumi began to walk to her chambers she heard a noise coming from her captain's room and she walked in without knocking and looked around noticing the new captain sweating and shivering. She wrapped her arms around him in a hug and spoke to him softly and quietly "Are you ok Captain you seem a bit scared and troubled." She didn't want to be so forward or rude towards her captain but the situation seemed quite weird and the fact he was just sweating like he had seen a ghost really troubled her. "My name is Harumi Shimizu Aeturnum by the way sir and I am your assigned lieutenant." Harumi said still holding unto the captain seeking to calm him down.

Sighing as he was trying to recover from such a vivid nightmare, Kenshin noticed that he was sweat quite a lot and that he was trembling a bit. "I'm over 3000 years old and I'm still sobbing like a goddamn child. I just hope no one enters this room and sees me in this state." However, he noticed that a woman had entered his room and wrapped her arms around him. He was embarrassed to have his lieutenant see him in such a state. SIghing, he looked at her and told her, "I'm alright. I'm just having ghosts of the past haunt me in my sleep is all. It's nothing really new for me considering how long I've lived. Guess it really can't be helped." Pausing, he then looked at Harumi's lieutenant badge and smiled. "So your Harumi Shimizu Aeturnum? Pleasure to meet you madame. I look forward to working with you as your Captain and hopefully friend." Smiling, he was trying to avoid the fact that Harumi had walked into him in such an embarrassing situation.

Harumi would unwrap her arms around her captain once she could see he was doing better, Harumi was quite a child when it came to people been troubled or having nightmares but in battle she could be as fearless as anyone. Harumi would look at the captain smiling and smiled back and spoke to him once more "There is no reason to pretend your not embarrassed I know I would be if someone would walk on me when I am at such state but no need to worry your secret is more than safe with me." Harumi said as she walked towards a round table he had on his room and grabbed the water jar and poured some into a cup and handed it back to her captain. "There drink some it should help you recover faster as long as to stop sweating." Harumi said in a kind tone as she giggled and sat in front of him.

Kenshin smiled out of relief as he heard Harumi say that she would keep this situation confidential. He smiled as he took the cup of water that she gave him and drank out of it. It was a relief having someone talk with him for once without trying to start a fight or having to do with business. Kenshin then got up, as he walked over to a shelf, as he grabbed a towel and began to wipe off the sweat from his body, as he was getting himself back in order before starting a conversation with his lieutenant. Once done, he tied his hair together and walked back over to Harumi and sat in front of her, as he smiled and began to talk with her. "So Harumi. I have to ask you something if that would be alright with you. I've noticed that on my way over to my room, I noticed several people from our squad stare down at me with confusing faces. It seems like people aren't very happy about me replacing Animus so quickly. So I have to ask you this. Do you think that I should be here?"

Harumi stood silent as she noticed the head captain go about and straighten himself out, as he sat in front of her and spoke to her she smiled a bit trying not to seem to unfriendly about the fact most people were shocked how fast Animus was replaced. "Well Hiroshi-sama I am going to be honest with you no point going around the bush about such delicate situation." she said and paused for a second to eat a piece of candy she had on her pocket. " People here are used to sen Animus and the news of his death has not been easy in anyone of the squad specially not me since he was like a father to me but I trust you would do a fine job as Head captain and people will warm up to you once they get a real chance to meet you, so don't be worried is just a hard transition is all." Harumi said to him in a kind and polite tone trying to inject some confidence unto the negativity that was going around the man's head, after all he was the new Head captain and people were talking bad about him. She did not blame the men for been concerned but she truly admired his strength and posture.

Kenshin remained silent as he heard Harumi give him input in regards to his question. It made sense what he was saying, as this wasn't anything new for him, but he just didn't seem to like this transition yet. "At least she's straightforward and honest about what she's saying." Chuckling, Kenshin grabbed his cup of water and drank the rest, as he smiled at Harumi and thanked her for her input. "Thanks Harumi. I've been fairly curious on how people were feeling about me replacing Animus, so it's good to hear that from you." Pausing, he then remembered the old days where he and Animus were rather close friends prior to him becoming the Head Captain and when they were both just best friends living life to the fullest in the world of the living. Sighing, he then looked at his lieutenant and told her, "Well hey. I've known Animus well before he was the Head Captain of the soul society and I'm aware of the fact that I have quite the hole to fill after Animus died. Hopefully I can get people I can rely on like yourself to help me do so. Think you could help me with that?" Smiling, he then waited for Harumi's answer to his question.

"Well I don't think that would be an easy task at all but you have been fair and polite so i owe you to at least try and get the Squad to understand you just doing your duty as a Captain. As for the friendship thing we can work on that as we go its too soon for me to pass a proper judgement on you" Harumi said still keeping her answers as straightforward as always and with her hands now gently playing with her dark hair. "So you and Animus were good friends? Don't you think as a good friend you should of declined the offer of becoming Head Captain as respect for your fallen comrade and friend?" Harumi said with a very polite voice, she had no meanings of disrespect but was rather curious as to what the answer would be, indeed the answer to that question would decide the way Harumi would judge this new character from now on and how much she would admire the new captain.

Kenshin sighed as he heard Harumi ask him a question in reference to why he took the job in the first place. It wasn't a very comfortable question to ask but Kenshin felt that it was important for his own lieutenant to know just why he took the job. "Animus was a dear fried of mine, and quite frankly, seeing Animus die from the realm of the soul king was something I took personal. However, I've tried declining the job ever since the Soul King and Central 46, but I was already chosen to become Animus' replacement for the past 200 years. You see, the role of being the Commanding Captain of the soul society is of utmost important and having that spot vacant is something that the soul society cannot afford. Things would lead to chaos and possibly the downfall of the soul society if things become to complicated for deciding who should take charge of the spot. So when the spot was open, it was my duty to assume the position of leadership, just so that I can guide the Gotei 13 to the best of my abilities.

Pausing, Kenshin sighed, as he was quite stressed with dealing with this position. Scratching his head, he then looked at Harumi and resumed explaining himself. "So really, I took this job not only because it was my duty, but because I want to make myself useful for once in life without having to just spend my time fighting pathetic human wars in the frontlines or having to drink myself to the point where I blackout because of ghosts from the past that continue to haunt me. So quite frankly, this is more so an opportunity to redeem myself for all the wrong that I've lived through and have caused over the ages. Afterall, when you've lived as long as I have, your bound to have done a few things that you wouldn't be proud of." With that, he closed his eyes and sighed, as he started to think back on his younger days during the time of the Han Dynasty and the golden age of China. "Weren't those the bad days?" Smiling, he then looked at Harumi and asked her, "Well then. Enough about me now, why don't we talk about you for a change? That is of course if you'd be willing to talk that is."

Harumi listened closely to every word the new Head Captain was saying specially the passion and honesty that flowed through them as he spoke. She was actually sorta amazed at the amount of sentiment and melancholy behind the man's words and certainly felt rather uneasy to have questioned his motives for taking the job but this sympathetic feeling is what made her trust him a bit more after all he had said. She then look upwards at Kenshin's eyes and smiled a bit before taking a sip of the tea, "Well there is not much to be known about me except the fact that I work my a** off for this squad and the people of the Seretei. I do not care much for death as long as I can save the lives of those who are important to me." Harumi said with a very determined tone as she remembered the day of Animus's funeral and a tear could be seen rolling down her cheek.

Kenshin remained silent once more, as he heard Harumi speak a bit about herself. It was clear that although no one knew much about her but he was rather curious to know more about her than what she was telling. It was well apparent that Harumi was holding back some of her past, and this was concerning for Kenshin. Being that she was his lieutenant and that she seemed like a rather pleasant person to have as a comrade, he worried for her. Then hearing her speak about Animus, Kenshin understood what she meant by her words, but when a tear rolled down her check, Kenshin soon slid over right next to his lieutenant. He wrapped his hand around her shoulder, and attempted to comfort her, and wiped her tear from her face. "Hey. There's no need to hold back your emotions, especially after going through the death of your superior. Besides, you should know that I'm here to not only serve as your superior, but also as your mentor and friend, so there's no need to hold back anything that might be bothering you Harumi." Looking into her eyes, he smiled, as he hoped his attempt of kindness towards his lieutenant would work.

" I appreciate your honesty and intent of helping me during this trouble times Kiyoshi-sama, but there are certain problems we must face alone out of pride and respect." Harumi spoke with a kind and determined tone as she was not looking to disrespect her captain or even make him feel uncomfortable. She grabbed her tea cup and sipped the last it was of the tea and looked at the captain once more and gave him a warm smile. "Do not worry they will warm up to you, you will make an excellent captain and I am sure your friend will be proud." Harumi said and got up grabbing her cup and placing it where the dirty china was. She then looked outside at the Gotei from the window and smiled. "You have done a great job Animus now its time we trust our souls upon Kiyoshi, you will never be forgotten." Harumi said and wiped her eyes as they began to water again.

"Excuse me Kiyoshi-san but I think its late enough and I wish to trouble you no more, you have had enough for one day to worry about. I am just go to my barracks and finish my report for today and hand it to you at your office tomorrow morning. Thank you for the tea and the talk they were both exquisite." Harumi said and bowed her head kindly at the captain before opening the door out his room, she then looked back and tossed a letter at him. "That is my resignation letter as Squad 1 Lieutenant I wish you luck in all your business here Kiyoshi-sama." Harumi said and walked out of the room and shunpo towards her room to pick up her clothes and belongings.
