The sun shone down brightly on the mountain top. The days had been getting warmer as of late but there was still plenty of snow on the ground and much fun still left to be had. Maiko was both sad and happy to see the snow slowly melting away. She had always loved playing and burrowing in the snow but abundant amounts of snow made racing very difficult and Maiko did love racing.
Speaking of racing, hadn’t she been sent to do something that involved something to do with her racing team? Maiko stopped in mid step and thought. She probably had been sent to do something but now that she tried to think of the task, she couldn’t remember. Oh well. No sense worrying about it; Nika will just remind her later.

What to do, what to do? Why did feelings have to be so complicated? Why couldn’t he just go up and talk to her? Gah! Derez let out a sound of frustration as he paced back and forth in the snow between two trees. His constant pacing had begun to make a tiny ditch in the snow that was gradually becoming deeper. But he couldn’t help it, the pacing gave him a way to release his frustration of himself.
A few weeks back, Derez had run into a sweet little vixen named Maiko. There was no doubt that she was ditzy, very forgettful, and super clumsy but Derez also saw her as very sweet and kind and pretty, and good natured and... Well he could go on and on about the positive side of her. Maiko had partnered up with him and assisted him on a few tasks one day and since then, Derez hasn’t been able to get the thought of her out of his head.

As Maiko continued her walk, the feeling that she was forgetting something was growing on her mind. Obviously, whatever it was that she had been told to do, it had been important. Yet, despite all her efforts, the information was lost in the depths of her memory.
Ugh, she hated when this happened. She forgot stuff all the time, but usually it didn’t phase her for she was highly accustomed to it. This time however, the thoughts tugged at her mind, forcing her to focus on trying to remember the something she had forgotten.
After a few minutes of trying to shake the feeling, Maiko finally sat down and tried her hardest to consentrate on the events leading up to her walk. She was unaware though, that there was someone else in the area.

In the short time he had talked with her and developed this little crush, Derez had learned that Maiko was pretty easy to talk to, although he would have to explain simple things to her sometimes. If it was so easy to talk to her, why couldn’t he just go do it then? Instead of just walking up and saying hi, he was pacing around in the snow acting like a pup who couldn’t fend for himself.
With a huff, Derez stopped his pacing and sat down. Fine, he decided, I’ll just go talk to her. The next time I see her, I’m just going to walk up and start a conversation. With Maiko, starting a conversation can’t be that hard. So I’m just going to go for it. Yep. Next time I see that bright bouncy vixen I’m gonna talk to her.
As Derez stood to head back down the mountain, a flash of light blue caught his eye. And there she was; Maiko. She was sitting in the snow, for once looking like she was actually concentrating on something. Although Derez had just finished giving himself a nice pep talk, his body stood stiff as if the snow had frozen him in place.

The memory of what she was supposed to be doing was so close yet so far away. No matter how long she sat there staring at the snow, she just couldn’t remember it. By this time she had fully given up. The best thing to do now was return back to the gang and ask Nika what it was she was supposed to be doing and hopefully not forget this time.
Maiko stood, shook the snow from her coat and headed back to camp. As she turned to leave, she started thinking up fun things to do after she finished the days tasks once she remembered what they were. She had made it half way back to the gang when the forgotten instructions decided to interupt her thoughts.
That guy! She had been sent to find the black and blue newly recruted fox named De- something. Now having remembered what she was supposed to be doing, Maiko turned and took of in the direction she had come from.

It was her. She was there. Like, right there. Was it fate that he had just persuaded himself to talk to her and she’s here once he turns around, or was it a curse? Derez couldn’t really decide. He had just promised himself to go talk to her... But she looked so deep in through, maybe now wasn’t the best time. In the back of his mind, he knew if he let that excuse fly, he’d be able to come up with an excuse of why he couldn’t talk to her each time he saw her but a bigger part of him didn’t care as long as he didn’t have to talk to her now.
His eyes stayed glued to the bright vixen as she stood and walked away from him. As soon as she was out of sight, Derez began swearing up a storm, cursing himself for not having the guts to just grab her attention. That was his chance and he missed it.

Derick, Dedric, Derall, Derizz, Deram....So close but that still wasn’t it either. Maiko knew she was close to the male, she could smell him upwind of her, but she didn’t want to approach him just yet. One thing that Maiko had come to notice was that most foxes remembered her name, but she didn’t remember theirs. It was something that had always made her feel bad for a few moments. The males name was on the tip of her tongue, she could feel it. Surely if she sat there long enough the name would come to her. And it did.
“Derez!” She nearly shouted the name as she jumped up and bounced towards him.

Stupid stupid stupid! How could he let himself pass up the perfect chance like that? Agh! Any passerby could easily tell how frustrated the male sled fox was. Derez had resumed his pacing as he swore at himself mentally. His fluffy curled tail twitched behind him in a very aggitated mannor.
Naturally, he was taken by surprise as he heard Maiko shout his name. He had been so certain that she was long gone that he literally jumped a few feet in the air from the startle. And that was just high enough to hit the lowest branch of the tree he had been pacing under. Which in turn, of course, dropped a fresh pile of snow on top of him.

“Hey, hey, hey!” Maiko said excidedly as she bounce up and down in the snow next to Derez’s trench. She settled herself only for a moment to look at him and remembered why she had been so excited to take the task to find him. He was muscular, but not too muscular and his blue reminded her of a night sky. His markings were pretty cool too.
Seeing how cute he was again and how adorable his look of frustration was when he was covered in snow, Maiko couldn’t help but resume her bouncing and wiggle around for joy that she got to be the one to talk to him.

Derez took a deep breath and shook the clumps of snow off of himself. Maiko had caught him off guard but it didn’t even seem like the vixen noticed that he had completely made a fool of himself by being so startled he knocked snow down all over himself. She seemed to have a one track mind, which of course he already knew, but it always surprised him just how simple minded she could be. Regardless, she was still super cute and sweet.
“Yes?” Derez asked, to her persestant calling of his attention. It seemed like she had some business with him which interested him greatly.

Maiko was just about to tell Derez to come back to the main tribe to speak with Nika when Derez’s pattern caught her attention and she completely forgot, once again, what she was meaning to tell him. After a few seconds of admiring the interesting pattern that covered his back and sides, she realized that he was waiting for her to speak. Of course, her mind was drawing a blank on what to say though. Then she vaguely remembered something Danali said about how to “pick up” a guy.
“Do you leave here often?” She asked Derez in the cutest, flirtiest voice she could master.

Did she just ask if he left the tribe often? And why did it seem like that question was meant to be flirty? Derez started at her, one eyebrow cocked, with his head slightly tilted to the side. “Uh, no.” He replied staring almost blankly at her. Waaaait. Could she have meant....?
“Do you mean do I come here often?” Derez asked her slowly, his look confused and trying to figure out just what exactly Maiko was trying to actually ask him.

Maiko was confused at Derez's slow speech and forgot that she was trying to flirt with him. Why was he talking to her so slow? Could he not think as fast as she could? Perhaps that's why she forgot so much stuff, she thought to herself, because I think to fast. With her flirting attempts forgotten, Maiko wasn't sure what Derez was talking about anymore. Asking her if she came here often. That was what he asked her right?
"What?" Maiko replied. "No, I don't come here often, Silly. I only came here for you." She tried to match his slow speaking pace so that he could follow her thought process. For a moment when she spoke she remembered that she had come to get him at Nika's request. She really should get around to telling him her message.

He thought he was confused but now, there was no doubt that Derez was completely lost and confused about their conversation. The dark male took a minute to think about how he wanted to proceed. Firstly, Maiko said she'd come here for him. The statement filled him with butterflies and excitement. Secondly, it seemed she was mental. She couldn't even follow the simplest of conversations. He had obviously asked if she had meant to say that not asking her if she came her often. She was an idiot but he couldn't help but feel an attraction to her. Almost as if he needed to protect her like a little kit to make sure she didn't get taken advantage of. But for now, he decided, he'd just concentrate on her being here for him.
"You came here for me?" He tried to hide the excitement in his voice but failed. His ears perked up as he awaited her answer, an anxious feeling growing in the pit of his stomach.

"I sure did!" Maiko said, getting to her feet and bouncing around. "I came out here to find you and I did!" She bounced more unable to contain her excitement. She wasn't sure what she was excited about but she knew she was definitely excite. Maiko was also wrongly proud of herself. Her mission had been to find Derez and bring him back to Nika, back to the others. But with her new growing excitement, she had forgotten about that and was proud that she had completed her mission of just finding Derez.
"Why did you come here?" Maiko asked looking at Derez with bright cheery eyes as she bounced around in the melting snow.
