Ofelia had walked out of the cafeteria slow enough, her steps sure and her pace one of a person unaffected, but as soon as she got out of what she hoped to be their line of sight she broke into a run. It didn't matter that she knocked into a few people on the way, it didn't matter that she actually pushed someone over in the process; she wanted to get away.

There really wasn't anywhere for her to go, she couldn't make it back to her dorm room to hide on her own, so Ofelia settled for the bunk area. Thankfully there was no one in, apparently everyone was out doing something or she happened to catch the space during a shift change, and the teen grabbed a bunk near the corner and snatched the blanket from atop it. Wrapping it around her shoulders she slumped to the ground, not even onto the bed, and pressed her face against the hard metal that supported the mattress.

Her shoulders started to shake as the tears fought to come out but Ofelia wasn't going to cry. Instead she bit her lower lip, remembering the sensation of wind against her face as Rep's weapon smashed into the table in front of her. Her lip started to bleed from the pressure, she'd bitten through it, but she kept pressing her jaw down to keep the tears from coming.

She. . . she wasn't going to cry.

Running footsteps. Jordan pushed his boots under the shared bunk and looked up as Ofie burst into the room in blind distress, not even seeing him where he'd been half-kneeling on the floor to take his boots off. Ofie wrapped herself in a blanket and sunk onto the floor, her whole posture defeated and in-turned; Jordan debated with himself. Should he leave quietly and give her some privacy to pull herself together, or should he check?

Check, he decided. He stood and made his way quietly over to where she'd collapsed, sockfeet making no sound on the stone floor. He sank down to sit crosslegged nearby, giving her a little space but not too far. "Hey," he said quietly. "You okay?"

The space was wasted, for as soon as Ofelia heard Jordan's voice she turned to look at him. Her eyes were wide and red, watering every so faintly, and a thin trickle of blood was leaking down from her lips onto her chin. It pooled at the base before dropping down onto her knees, and the teen quivered for a moment before she buried her face in her hands. Her shoulders shook twice and her hands moved, the girl now crying. "Jordan. . . what. . . . what do Ah do now?" The tears were streaming down her cheeks, her words were hard to understand, and she moved her left hand to her mouth to try and muffle the sobs that were threatening to come. "He. . . he said. . . "

No, it wouldn't matter. Jordan wouldn't believe her. Rep said he could tell her anything because no one would believe her, not even Jordan. That thought terrified her, she didn't want to be ignored and forgotten and not believed. She. . . wanted someone to trust her words but then would...would it happen if she did tell and Rep was confronted he'd kill her anyway? He'd been so angry, so angry, and then the table.

"With weapon, broke the table. . . . said...he said. . . " She was practically shaking like a leaf now, unable to properly say the words. "Ah'm sorry Jordan, Ah'm so sorry."

"Hey, hey." Jordan moved over to put a gentle hand on Ofelia's back, watching her with concern. "It's okay. Who said what? Can you tell me what happened?"

"He...he said if. . . if Ah told anyone they wouldn' believe me. . . .an' then he said he'd kill me if Ah told anyway." Ofelia leaned against Jordan, her hand still somewhat over her mouth so her words were awkward and coming out at different levels of volume. The blood was still dropping from her lip. How long ago was the last time she'd bitten her lip from nerves, to the point it bled like crazy? She couldn't remember but it didn't matter.

"Wait, what? Who told you that?" Jordan frowned, worried.

Should she say anything? Well, he'd said no one would believe her so it wasn't like she had any doubts there. The hand slowly moved away from her mouth and she looked at Jordan, the bottom of her eye patch soaked with the tears that weren't able to fall. "Rep did."

Ofelia knew at the very least that Rep and Jordan were good friends so she doubted he'd believe her.

Jordan's eyebrows arched. "Rep? He must have been angry, if he was saying that kind of thing. Could you start from the beginning and tell me the whole thing?"

Ofelia shook her head, her hand moving up to cover her good eye. "No...no, it's...it's okay if ya dun believe me. He said no one would because Ah'm a stupid ginger b***h so. . . it's...it's okay." She was saying those things but for some reason she wasn't hearing them and wasn't believing them. All she could hear was the pounding of her heart in her ears and the painful taste of iron in her mouth. "Ah...Ah started it by sayin' sorry fer everythin', so. . . it's all mah fault."

Inside her head Rue was calling bullshit as hard as it was possible for a weapon to do.

"No, I believe you," Jordan said quietly. "Rep says some pretty harsh things when he's worked up. He doesn't necessarily mean them after he calms down, but I believe he said that." He suppressed a sigh. "It'll be okay. You started by saying sorry, all right, what happened then?"

Ofelia shook her head again but she didn't pull away from Jordan, nor did she speak right away. "He almost did once." She placed a hand on the bandage that was still on her chest, the wound not fully closed. Thanks to the flowers the whole thing had become agitated and taken longer to heal, not to mention all this running around wasn't doing her any favors "He seemed ta regret it afterward an' Ah didn' want him ta think Ah hated him, an' then he summoned his weapon towards me an' cut the table an' if Killzone hadn'a shown up . . . "

Ofelia was skipping around, trying to avoid that she'd pushed him into it. She had made a promise she wouldn't say he was gay but to get to the root cause she'd need to tell eventually, right?

Jordan nodded. "He doesn't think when he gets mad. He pushes people away by scaring them instead. He split a table?" Jordan paused, surprised. "I've only seen him do that once before. Think about it, though. He was angry enough to threaten to kill you, but he didn't hit you. He hit the table instead."

He wasn't listening to her, not really, or at least not in the way that Ofelia wanted Jordan to be listening to her. Each word to her sounded like he was defending Rep against everything and each time he spoke the sickening feeling in the pit of her stomach only continued to boil. "He was going to hit me next. If Killzone hadn' shown up, Ah wouldn' be here. Ya can cover it as much as ya wanna, but his impulse control woulda had him cut me in half." The teen's words were soft as she rubbed the blood from her lip and chin, her hand and face now sporting twin crimson streaks. She pulled her eye patch off and rubbed at that eye as well, the full sight of her scar now visible to Jordan. Her fake eye was missing, probably lost somewhere during one of the runs she made earlier, and the hollow socket stared outwards as she wiped away the tears. With all the blood from her lip it looked as though she were giving herself war paint.

"Am Ah such an annoyin' person that the easiest way ta deal wit' me is jus' ta kill me?" It...would make sense as to why everyone kept saying she had a death wish. Ofelia didn't particularly want to die, even though she knew she was already legally dead, but that just meant she didn't fear what was to come. She knew what was expected of the Sun Division, they were meant to go out and clear areas, and she also knew what was meant of all the trainees. Everyone was cannon fodder in one way or another - she simply just didn't feel the need to sweat about it.

. . . yet.

He hadn't been there, hadn't seen what was going on; Jordan restrained himself from further speculation with an effort. Instead, as Ofie wiped her face, he asked, "Did you lose your eye somewhere?"

He shook his head at the question. "I don't think so," he said neutrally. Ofie was less than tactful, mule-stubborn, and seemed to lack survival instinct, but she was trying so very hard. Unfortunately, that might not be enough to keep her safe, from their prey or their colleagues. He wasn't entirely sure what could be done about that, either. He paused thoughtfully, then asked, "What were you apologizing to me for, just a minute ago?"

Ofelia moved her hand and touched the empty eye socket, the tips of one of her fingers actually going inside of it. "Ah dunno. Last Ah remember Ah had it in but Ah been runnin' round so much is possible Ah dropped it durin' a fight." She pulled her hand back and blinked, trying to wipe away the last of the tears that had streaked her face. For the time being she'd stopped crying but that didn't mean she wasn't going to start again any time soon. She was still scared, still nervous, and her stomach rolled with unease.

When Jordan continued to talk, she answered as best she could. "Well, ya like Rep, yeah? An' he likes ya very much, or maybe Ah'm jus' makin' mah own signs outta what Ah been seein'." Ofelia enjoyed watching people almost to the point of being creepy. It was more or less her chance to observe, see their mannerisms, but sometimes it bordered on overly attentive. The teen was pretty oblivious to feelings though which made it easier on some people who were trying to be discreet. "Ya warned me ta be careful an' jus' . . . well, ya've always been lookin' out fer me an' Ah jus' run mah mouth an' make stuff worse. Ah'm sorry Ah keep lettin' ya down."
