Having finally left his parents for the first time James was feeling a bit melancholy but for the most part he was feeling eager to see the world would hold for him. So far he had somehow gotten to lose himself in the large size of the world. He had no idea where he was only that it was far far from his little home in the abandoned human building that he had grown up in. Being lost didn’t make him sad; rather he was looking at this as an opportunity to figure out how the world worked. There was a large body of water to his left and it didn’t taste very good. In fact it was very salty. There were a lot of rough rocks under his paws and the water came in and out while James traveled making him leery of traveling to close should it start to come inshore faster than he could. Right now the water was heading out so he dared to venture down into the area that had lots of little pools with small creatures in them.

Anneth was currently taking her frustrations out on whatever creature she was able to catch in the darn pool. She had come to the ocean, because it was as far away from the mountains her parents were living in that she could get. Maybe if her grandfather or grandmother on her papa's side were around she'd try to convince them to find an island for her to live on. Then she wouldn't have to be bothered by her family. Don't get her wrong. Her mother was...alright. Her father...don't even mention him. Her sister? Odd. Course Aika also had a squid on her so that might have something to do with it. Why couldn't Anneth have a loving family like she had heard about? Well, what was love to begin with was the better question. Putting up with someone just because you had to or because they were the mother/father of your kids? Grumbling, Anneth jabbed a claw at another small fish.

James noticed something moving ahead of him. It looked like a fox, but as he approached he noticed that there was odd about it, well her? It looked slim enough to be a vixen. Still James didn’t want to be rude. “Hello there.” James trotted up smiling and nearly slipped into a pool he hadn’t noticed before. “ah um.. well that was fun. Hello my name is James. Can I know yours and maybe where we are right now?” James smiled warmly at the other fox and found his eyes being drawn to the rather bright and beautiful finned tail that the other fox possessed. He nearly dropped his pipe when he realized he was staring and averted his eyes to the pool between them. “Sorry I didn’t mean to be rude, but I do like the color of your tail. ”

Anneth started, losing the fish she was trying to stab, at the voice of another fox. She looked up through a veil of her hair. "Hmph." Anneth curled her tail closer to her. "We're by the ocean. Where exactly I don't know or care." The vixen sat up and studied the male in front of her. Her eyes roamed from the hat on his head, to the pipe in his mouth to the....why was he carrying that odd looking branch? "....." He had asked for her name didn't he. "As for my name, it doesn't concern you."

“Oh so this is what an ocean is like.” James took a moment to admire the view. It really was beautiful. He then winked at the vixen. He knew it was a vixen from her lovely voice. And if it wasn’t, well then it was the prettiest male he had ever seen. “Well that’s a pity not to learn your name, but if you won’t tell me I suppose I shall simply call you scarlet rainbow, in honor of that lovely tail of yours miss.” James knew it sounded lame but at least it was something to call the fox in front of him. He certainly liked it anyway.
(oh gawd he's distracted by rainbow colors... *headdesk*)

Anneth snorted. Scarlet Rainbow indeed. "Call me what you will." Anneth wasn't going to see this guy after today more than likely, so why bother with giving a name? Anneth nodded at the stick James was holding. "What's that?" It had to be hard to carry it when walking right? So why carry it?

He nodded with a smile on his face. At least he had something to call her. He looked at the broom he was holding. “Well my father told me it was a broom it’s a thing humans use for sweeping.” He stood up on his hind legs and pressed his face against the shaft while he wrapped his paws around the broom. Then he demonstrated two quick strokes back and forth. “Like this.” Then he dropped back down to all fours again. “Of course there are a lot more uses for it. I’ve used it before when I crawled up a tree. I just place it between two ‘V’ branches like this.” Shifting the branch so it was perpendicular to him James continued. “I can lay across a branch and it and have a comfortable rest. There are other uses too.”

Anneth eyed the 'broom'. "Then the humans must have known which types of tree branches were sturdy to be able to hold a grown fox's weight." This James fox must be joking surely. "Tell me, what other uses are there? Because I doubt, unless you are one who feels everything has to be in its place and nice and tidy that you use that broom like the humans do."

“I don’t think they meant for it to hold a fox’s weight, but it does so I use it like that.” He laughed. “Believe it or not I have actually used it to clean before. Still you’re right I use it a number of other ways to. I can poke and knock down high things like apples with it. I can use it to block off a small hole or whatnot if a cave is cold. I can always use it to distract or hurt an enemy and of course I can poke and annoy things from a distance.”

"Ah." Anneth was going to say more, like he didn't need the broom to annoy things or others, but her mama taught her somewhat better. "So what are you doing all the way out here?" Maybe just passing through like her? Not that Anneth really cared...

Mentally sighing James wondered if he had botched what he said somehow. Normally he would get a laugh if he said he was going to use his broom to annoy someone. Still at least this lovely lady was polite. “Well honestly I’m lost. Completely and utterly. It doesn’t’ much matter though. ”

Anneth yawned. "I gathered as much when you asked what place this was." Anneth stood up, stretching from sitting so long. "I suppose not. Not if you like traveling to random places. Experience new things, see new places." Would be worst if one got lost without meaning to and was supposed to be somewhere else, meeting someone maybe.

Definitely not much for humor. Still James didn’t mind. She seemed nice enough even though she was a bit strange. “I certainly do like to travel this is my first time really at it so I think everything looks exciting.” He gave her a huge grin. Then he started to move to the other side of the small tidal pool while looking in it. “So Miss scarlet rainbow what brings you out to the ocean?”

Well, that really wasn't a too personal question. And James had answered a lot of hers, so Anneth figured it might only be fair to answer that one. "I just needed to get away. Find some space of my own." She shrugged. "It just got to be too much at home you know?" Way too much. And the mountains really weren't her thing either.

A response at last! “I understand that.” He kept moving along the edge of the pool until he was on the side the vixen was on. “My own family let me go with some reluctance on my mother’s behalf.” He smiled. “It seems she wanted me to stay a kit forever and was surprised when I grew up one her.” James winked at the vixen and then looked around at the land from this side of the pool. He liked the different view.
