- Name: Ever Ambrodiel
Nickname: n/a
Age: 29
Social Class: Hunter
Occupation: Hunter
APPEARANCE
Years of rough living on the edge of the forest, of hunting and climbing and gathering, have not turned Ever into a powerhouse of strength; instead they have left him lean and gangly, very tall and very skinny, with broad hands and feet and somewhat roughened skin. Extremely fair with unnaturally pale hair and unnaturally dark eyes, Ever has dealt with the prejudiced against the tainted all his life. Where he is covered, his arms and legs, his skin stays a very pale pink. Where he's exposed, his cheeks and the tips of his ears, his hawkish nose, he is usually sun-burned and sometimes peeling. His clothes are mostly greens and browns, leather lined with thick fur to protect him against the chill. His hair is chopped into an unruly mess, likely done with a knife in the woods. When he enters the city proper to sell his goods, he usually comes clean shaven -- but even when out on his own, unshaven, the hair that touches his cheeks is pale enough to be virtually invisible.
He is not attractive, but he is distinctive, sharp-featured with a too-big nose and almond-shaped eyes. He is charismatic, with a too-wide smile usually spread across his mouth and an edge of humor behind the expression that might be at someone else's cost.
PERSONALITY
Unlike many of his Hunter brethren, Ever lacks the serious and somber edge that keeps them separate from society. Instead of retreating against a blank-faced wall, he chooses humor as his fortifications -- disguising whatever he might be feeling behind dry jokes and mockeries. Instead of respecting the distance nervous peasants and Artisans usually give him, he dances in too close, refusing to give them the personal space they so badly want.
None of this really makes for any kind of long-lasting relationship. Those who know him well are likely to know him only for a short amount of time before he slips back into the woods, unable to deal with personal questions or emotional conversations. Those who don't know him as well are likely to say he's just an a*****e who likes to crack a joke at their expense. Either way, he has many acquaintances but few -- if any -- friends.
ABILITIES
At some point in his life, Ever had schooling beyond that of the average peasant. While he doesn't speak often of his family, they must have been Artisans, as he can read and write and knows a wealth of the more popular mythologies about the Speaker and the Masked families. Not that he has much opportunity to use this, other than flummoxing people who have certain expectations about Hunters; more often than not, it's his capability with a bow and arrow, with skinning animals, with starting fires and finding his way in the woods that come in useful.
He is not strong, but he is quick; couldn't carry more than his usual pack plus some game, perhaps, and usually what he hunts is small creatures, as opposed to the more vicious monsters in the Blackwood. He can cook, but only the basics, heating meat over a simple fire. He doesn't know how to make anything complicated, and when it comes to fruits and berries, there are only a handful that he can recognize on sight and deem 'safe to eat'.
Overall this means that he hunts and he catches things and is more than willing to come past the walls to sell his game, or trade it for some fruits or greenery. Meat and furs, uncured and untreated, serve as his currency. It may also be that he likes a bit of social interaction, not as well suited to the hermit life as many Hunters are...
HOBBIES
There is a leaf that grows in the woods that, when smoked, gives energy and a faint sense of well-being. Ever doesn't know its name, but he's well acquainted with its effects. He's rather good at finding it and twisting it up into a shape that he can light and enjoy, huddled under tree at the edges of the Blackwood.
When he comes into town, much of Ever's coin or furs are used to buy beer or stronger liquors. He's frequently found at one of the outskirt pubs, alone on a bench with men and women giving him wary looks and a wide berth as he happily raises his voice with the song. It's hard to tell if this is due to his strange features, his Hunter reputation, or merely the fact that he's completely tone deaf.
