Two weeks after their weekend in the woods and Requiem Driscoll still could not stop thinking about it.

He supposed this was normal. After all, the weekend had not exactly turned out the way either of them had planned, what with Lycander getting attacked and almost dying and the subsequent...intimacy...that had followed this rather unexpectedly.

Sometimes Requiem wondered what on earth had gotten into him that night.

It was not that it had been bad. That was so far from the truth it was almost ludicrous, but Requiem had never before been such a forward individual, so thinking back on his own actions made him flush red with embarrassment, and every time Lycander had touched him since then - whether it was a simple squeezing of his fingers, or a tap to his shoulder - he had, in fact, run away as quickly as possible.

They hadn't even kissed since returning to their flat, let alone gone farther. It was more than a little humiliating, but Requiem could not seem to help himself. He felt awful for a) putting Lycander through what he had for the past six months, and b) putting Lycander through the same thing after giving him one night (and morning) of not running away.

They were back at square one. Which was why Requiem had made up his mind to do something for Lycander, several days after their eventful weekend. It had taken him quite some time to figure out just what exactly to do, but he had the distinct feeling that if he didn't do something to change the situation, the gap between them would grow even more, and despite his aversion to everything right now, that was something that Requiem could not let happen.

He was not going to lose Lycander. And since the space between them was his own fault, Requiem was determined to fix it.

Somehow.

A note was left on Lycander's door almost two and a half weeks after their weekend:

Meet me in the park at 10am tomorrow.

He was worried. Very very worried. Maybe saying close to terrified was a better way to phrase the growing feeling in the pit of his stomach. He was also confused. And didn't know what to do.

Ever since getting home from their camping trip, there seemed to be a gap forming between him and Requiem.

What...did I...do wrong?

The weekend he'd planned for the two of them had not gone as he had planned. Lycander had wanted a quiet trip away from everyone, giving himself and Requiem some time just to themselves. A chance to relax and enjoy one anothers company. Maybe even bond a little more.

Not that things had quite gone that way.

Lycander sighed heavily to himself, reclined on his bed with a book resting against his stomach. It had been vastly ignored while his mind wandered. Just like his mind did every night. He'd lay awake for hours, just staring up at his ceiling, trying to figure out what had happened. Had he made the wrong choices? Should he not have allowed...that to happen? No. No he didn't regret that in any way. Even if they were growing more distant, Lycander would never regret giving Requiem that night.

He just wished things didn't seem so awkward now. Every little light touch would send Requiem running from him. To the point Lycander found himself keeping his hands to himself as much as possible. Afraid to have Requiem leave his company.

I am patient, though. And I love you.

Usually, he would just finally fall asleep with those thoughts sifting through his mind.

That morning, however, when he'd gotten up and taken a shower, letting the hot water ease some of the aches in his back from a restless sleep, he felt a mixture of fear and giddiness. Last night, he'd discovered a note on his door. He'd almost missed it, mind only being half there. The flutter of something brightly colored - because Lycander loved color and had bright pads of paper placed around their apartment - against his darker door. Pausing, he reached out a hesitant hand and pulled the sheet off, reading it twice.

Requiem.

He'd known his boyfriend's handwriting well. Such clean and elegant strokes. A smile curled his lips up as he ran a hand through his wet hair, but it fell almost instantly. That feeling in the pit of his stomach grew and a stab of fear pierced him. He instantly shoved that down, quickly entering his room and glancing at the clock. He had half an hour to get ready and make it to the park.

Twenty-six minutes later, Lycander was dressed in a nice black button up shirt, with an orange undershirt beneath it and dark jeans. His hair was still slightly damp, but hung around his face in typical Lycander fashion.

He entered the park, heart pounding as he glanced around, searching for pale hair and golden eyes. Requiem...

He had everything under control.

Mostly. Except for his nerves, which felt like they were frayed and sparking with electricity. Requiem stood at the edge of the deserted park, anxiously twisting his sleeves together, pinching the hemline and tugging at a stray thread there. He couldn't deny that he missed Lycander - missed their closeness, since he obviously kept running away from his boyfriend - but now, hopefully, this plan would be able to stop some of that separation.

And hopefully he would stop being so damn nervous all of the time.

He'd left the note taped to Lycander's door in the hopes that he would see it, but now Requiem worried that he wouldn't, that he would miss it somehow, that something would happen, that it would fall off and Lycander would miss it completely.

All of the possibilities, and of course, since it was Requiem, none of them were really positive.

But then he caught sight of Lycander, making his way through the park and glancing around curiously, a somewhat eager look on his face. Requiem was behind him - Lycander had walked too far - and now he stepped up, uncertainly reaching out a hand.

He tapped his boyfriend's shoulder.

"Hi," he said softly, and flushed, biting his lip - a sure sign of his nervousness. Requiem rocked back on his heels, hesitating, and then, before he could regret it, leaned forward and pressed a quick, sudden kiss to Lycander's cheek. It was so light and fast it was hardly there - it could barely even be called a kiss - and by the time Lycander would have even noticed Requiem had already turned away.

"This way," he said softly, and gestured. Ahead of them was a red and white checked blanket laid out, a cloth lined basket sitting on the corner, with several pillows tossed around. The park was empty, since it was a weekday afternoon, and the reason Requiem had picked it was because it was thick with trees and lush green grass. This particular area was set in the middle of a ring of tall oak trees, making it semi-private, nice and secluded.

"I, um," said Requiem anxiously. "I thought...we could...have a picnic.

"Um. Together..."

He wasn't sure what to expect when he first entered the park. But there was one thing he was positive on. Lycander was excited. And terrified at the same time. As his racing heart was proving.

Why had Requiem been so distant? Lycander wasn't sure what- okay that wasn't true. He had a fairly good idea what had been the 'cause' of the strange behavior.

I don't regret any of it though.

With a sigh, the redhead entered the park and looked around curiously for his boyfriend. He was thrilled that Requiem was reaching out in his own way to try and...talk. Or do something. Lycander felt his stomach do flip flops. He was trying really hard to stay positive and not think of any of the other reasons Requiem might suggest meeting out here. Just his fears trying to get the better of him.

He loves me. Lycander reminded himself.

But why the distance...?

The tap on his shoulder made him pause and glance over his shoulder. And his entire face lit up as a warm smile crossed his lips. "Hi," he responded quietly, turning slightly to fully face Requiem. But before he could complete the movement, there was a quick, barely there kiss pressed against his cheek. Nothing like the spine tingling kisses he'd gotten before. But Lycander appreciated it all the same, a soft expression crossing his features.

Following just behind his boyfriend, Lycander kept his hands shoved in his pockets as Requiem revealed what he'd been planning for today. Blinking, Lycander slowed to a stop next to him, staring at the fairly simple picnic that somehow seemed very...thoughtful and intimate just at the gesture itself.

For a moment, Lycander was quiet, just staring at the set up before him. Then slowly, so as not to send Requiem running, Lycander slid his hand over to lightly squeeze Requiem's. Stepping closer he placed a sweet and chaste kiss to his cheek before stepping away and towards the blanket.

"I think you've come up with a splendid idea, darling!" He said over his shoulder, picking a spot to sit down comfortably. "Very sweet and today is such a nice day as well."

Requiem's heart was racing too, probably for the same reason as Lycander's - though neither one of them was actually aware of that fact. He did not regret that night, but he could not think of it without flushing a bright, scarlet red and shaking. It was not fair to Lycander that he was this way, but he could go no further without at least trying to mend things into something better.

Sometimes he disliked how horribly uncertain he was over everything.

Lycander's voice was uncharacteristically quiet when he said his greeting, and Requiem felt his heart drop a little, automatically running every possible negative scenario over and over again in his mind. He did not want Lycander to think ill of him, but if he did there was no changing that. Heart beating fast and keeping silent, Requiem led his boyfriend (hopefully he would still be able to call him that) over towards where he had set everything up.

Lycander was still quiet. Requiem's stomach dropped just a bit more, disappointment mixed with panic searing through him unpleasantly.

But then he felt warm fingers touch his own, and even warmer lips press against his cheek, which felt hot. Requiem flushed, nodding rapidly, his hair falling over his face as he hastily moved over towards the blanket, taking a seat beside Lycander.

"Well, um...I have...I have food here," he said, and pushed the basket closer towards Lycander. "There are sandwiches, and some fruit, and I think there's also dessert of some kind..."

He let his emerald gaze travel around the set up Requiem had made for them. It was rather sweet and Lycander couldn't recall any other time his boyfriend had done such a thing. Or rather, any other time aside from that one night. A night he'd been so shocked that Requiem had been the forward one. And been so proud too.

Lycander watched the way Requiem moved. How he seemed so hesitant and unsure of everything. The redhead hated seeing his boyfriend like that. But he honestly wasn't sure what to do. Everything he'd tried seemed to only send him running.

Again he felt that painful tightening in his chest.

He grinned, tapping a finger against the basket pushed towards him. "Excellent! I can't wait to dig in. Especially since it came with something extra special included." Lycander held Requiem's gaze for a moment before looking down to the basket. Opening it up to reveal the contents. He reached in, pulling out a couple sandwiches, placing one in front of himself and the other in front of his boyfriend. Fruit followed the sandwiches as did a juice boxes. Those definitely had Lycander grinning.

"Kiwi Strawberry. Mmm...one of my favorites." Lycander opted to sit in silence as he tasted the sandwich and nibbled on his fruit. Then, after debating it in his mind, Lycander reached over and placed his hand lightly on Requiem's leg.

"Thank you, darling. This was very thoughtful of you!" He hesitated, not sure if he should leave his hand there or not. Slowly, Lycander let his hand fall away. He didn't want to make his boyfriend uncomfortable. Not after he'd gone through the trouble of setting up such a lovely afternoon!
