Some of the waters fed into the Underground Caverns from the Waterfall cliffs above have found their way into small collections of pools which reside over geothermal pockets created by lava streams lying deeper in the surface. These pockets heat the waters gathered in these pools to a comfortable 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) which makes them perfect for relaxation and therapeutic use. Several of the pools are lit by large vents which allow beams of light to trickle into the ponds when available, but for the larger majority of the time, visitors simply use torches or basic ninjutsu to light the areas within the pools.
The hot springs are not easy to find however, and are often referred to as the "Legendary" Hot Springs of Iwagakure because most visitors can't find the time to reach them due to their poor knowledge of the Underground Caverns and the day long trip it takes to reach them. Since few visitors have the patience to travel to them, they are in some circles refuted to be a 'myth', but that is far from the truth. Any experienced Iwagakure Shinobi who has made the trip to the springs at least once can easily access them via the Doton-based Shunshin technique.
Due to the nature of the hot springs and their remote location underground, the springs are considered a 'mixed' spring and no bath house exists near it to entertain guests when they arrive. It is simply a naturally formed hot spring which people can come and take advantage of when they wish... if they can it... and if they take the time necessary to reach it.
