Optheli had been watching for the signs very carefully for the past several sevendays. She had to as the cues for the green getting proddy were very subtle. She finally spotted the restlessness and agitation of her normally shy green. Even then it required delicate mental prodding and reassurance.

Dynith had been putting off her Flight. She was sure none of the dragons would notice a green like herself. But a tiny voice in the back of her mind, sounding much like her rider, kept telling her that they would; they would notice and fly for her. Something finally sunk in, or clicked all of a sudden.

The anxious yellow eyes turned deep purple in an instant. She would be noticed! She would be heard! Dynith sprung to her feet in her wallow. She bellowed a roar to the males of her Weyr. A second call followed the first as she leaped toward the feeding pens. Faintly she sensed her rider following her. Dynith folded her wings to dive into a pen and snag a herdbeast. Her claws killed it with one blow and her open jaws swung over the carcass.

Blood it only! Do not eat the flesh Dynith. Take only the blood.

The litany sounded over and over in her head until the green gave in and sucked the beast dry. She glanced around and took down another herdbeast. Again the voice in her head telling her what to do when she wanted to fly far. Dynith drained the second animal and raised her bloody snout. Her hide glowed softly. She screeched to the males, taunting them. In a flurry of dark wings Dynith left the animal pens for open sky.

Oh, he had noticed. Pipith always noticed, always flew when a female took to the sky. While there was not nearly as much at stake when a green or fighting crimson flew, his pride was still on the line. Every Flight was another chance to prove that he was the best, to show his skills and to win. Dynith flies, he warned his rider, and waited for neither permission nor approval. Set'al never had a say in whether or not the bronze chased, even when his dragon wasn't mad at him. He was left to brace himself, and hope that if anything came out of this, it would at least distract Pipith from has frustration and finally banish the memory of why he was angry.

When the green screeched and launched into the air, Pipith echoed her call and followed within moments.

Thath had been tormenting the herdbeasts when Dynith dove for her kill, her calls barely noticed at first. The sight of her gleaming hide, however; woke a primal instinct in him that even the lazy brown couldn't deny. Dynith rises! Sleepily H'ner nodded, more to himself than anything. Will you chase? Of course! I am the best. Who better to catch her than me. And see how she shines. So radiant. H'ner snorted and waved a hand as he stood up to walk to where he could watch the proceedings. Ai. I suppose you're right then. With that the brown burst off of the ground with a beat of his wings echoing her.

Hatteth was sunbathing by the lake when a roar sounded, then again. He looked over at the sudden flurry of activity by the feeding pens. A green was there, blooding kills, and males were gathering. Dynith rises, he told his rider.

J'nes was mending riding straps when his brown bespoke him. Planning on chasing her? he asked.

Hatteth considered this. Normally he didn't bother, since he never won and didn't expect the female would take notice of him when larger, more impressive males were around. But he had caught Hyweth when last she flew. Perhaps he could catch another. Yes, I will. he said decisively, already leaping into the air to join the chase.

S'kiro was outside when he felt it. The subtle feeling from Neptanth told him that a dragon was rising. I am after Dynith Really the rider didn't mind. It was the first time for both of them and he knew that the larger ones would be there first.

The blue stretched his wings and pushed off the ground. Normally wanting to laze about, Neptanth decided that he should get out a bit more. The green was shouting her challenge and others were in the air already.

The green had gotten herself firmly sky bound before she looked back. The worst she could see was nothing. No male dragons following purposefully behind. To her delight, Dynith saw a number of males. She faltered slightly as she saw the bronze. A bronze was chasing her?! Her moment of distraction allowed Pipith to gain minor ground.

Dynith bellowed. She wasn't going to be caught so easy. The green went into rapid spirals interspaced with quick side slipping left and right.

(Blue Opeth (Tawny), Brown Asoth (Rev) will be rising late after this post.)

It was inevitable that other males would chase, that the blues and browns would chase the green as well, but he dismissed them without even looking back to see who his competition was. He was a bronze, the very best, and he would win Dynith.

And he had already caught her eye, evidently, Pipith determined smugly when she was distracted by the sight of him. Of course she would be! But she was also very fast, and while his smaller size lent him greater agility than other bronzes, it was difficult to follow a green's maneuvers.

Thath bellowed in anger as Pipith gained ground. He would have none of it. He shot forward in a vain attempt to pull ahead of the bronze, ignoring all other dragons but the green. She would be his. She had to be. He dipped low trying to pick up speed before shooting back up angled off in an attempt to catch her from below.

Hatteth was not the only dragon to chase, and he had certainly not expected to be. That didn't mean he wouldn't try. When Dynith started flying in rapid spirals, he tried to predict where the spirals would end and fly in that direction.

Neptanth gave a mental sigh as he watched the bronze move closer to the green. It wasn't that he wasn't willing to push himself for her, it was almost the same amount of work as fighting Thread. Only with fun at the end and not disaster. He hoped. Another good shove with his wings to get him closer to the rest, but not in the middle.

Dynith crowed with delight as her spirals confused the pack. She was showing them her capabilities. Just a green, Dynith had maneuverability on her side. Again she looked back at her pursuers. They still followed and she taunted them. Those tiny efforts wouldn't catch her!

The green beat her wings. Straining for height above the males. When she felt like she had enough, Dynith winged over and dropped like a stone toward the males. She would see who would get out of her way and who was smart enough to follow.

Asoth and M'lan had been out of the weyr on some errand and was slightly late to the party as the green shot overhead, bronzes, browns and blues in pursuit.

"MINE!... Mine a flight... oh please.... hurry .. let me chase" he said, fidgeting as he landed while M'lan unstrapped the leather flying gear. "DYNITH I COME!" he bellowed as he took off, nearly knocking M'lan off his feet in his haste.

Beating his wings hard he managed to catch up with the chasing males, he eyed the Bronze Pipith and was slightly smug to note they were about the same size. Despite the fact his mind was filled with lust for the Green, he showed off, he hovered above Pipith, matching wingbeats with an amused rumble before attempting to pull in front. That was not to say he ignored the other males chasing, they just didn't matter.

Roaring to Dynith again he rolled, showing off his flying skills to her. Unable to resist his inherit behaviour of wanting to be the center of attention despite the fact SHE was.

He may not have been able follow Dynith's spirals closely, to match them, but he was still ahead of the others, still ahead of the late-coming brown. When Asoth tried to match him, Pipith snarled and snapped and pulled ahead. You are late! You do not deserve her!

He might have pressed the matter if the brown had stayed near instead of rolling to show off, but it was just as well, as Dynith dropped towards them. He didn't try to get out of the way, oh no, he was intent on following her.

When Dynith began flying straight upward Hatteth began winging upward to follow her. Then she abruptly dove downward, and Hatteth hurriedly stopped his ascent. As she shot past him, he folded his wings to try and dive after her.

The blue noticed the late brown, though not fully pleased at having another competitor for the green. His mind was turning more lustful and he kept his eye on the prize. He pumped his wings to gain speed, doing what he could to catch up with the rest. Neptanth watched as Dynith climbed, angling to be in her path when she started to drop.
