Beti sniffed carefully at the area around her, curious and cautious. This was a new place, and...it smelled like it belonged to a pride. She recognized border marking scents, being from a pride herself, and these...were definitely it. Which meant...time to find a guard. Or...something. She just wanted to know if they'd be okay with her possibly visiting. And asking around regarding her grandparents. She still had yet to find them and it was...getting frustrating.

Shupavu walked calmly, patrolling the lands in a silent, fierce motion, eyes flicking as he moved. This was his land, his home... He would not allow more loss, more pain or tears, and he stood tall, scenting an intruder... And growled, dropping to stalk. He would watch... But one ill move....

The pale adolescent moved about, careful to not go far over the border with her steps, keeping her ears and eyes and nose open for a sign of someone she could talk to. Perhaps...if she called out? "Hello? Is anyone about?" Her tail swished a bit behind her, nervous that she might be at the border of a more...hostile pride. She truly hoped not. Despite her slightly-larger-than-average size and the fighting skilled passed to her by her mother...she wasn't fond of fighting.

Was he noticed? Shupasvu hoped not and crept closer lightly, fangs bared as he moved, keeping from sight.
"What... Is your business?"

Beti squeaked in a most undignified fashion, fur on edge in startlement as she looked around. "Hello? I'm just passing through. Hoping for news that might lead me to my mother's parents."

"Oh? Are you sure?"
Paws, a male was moving about. Shupavu prowled, watching... Reading her. Strange female.

Beti nodded. "Quite sure. My mother thought it would be a good start to my quest for an adult name, to meet her parents." She smiled. "This is really my only chance to meet my family outside my birth-pride."

Shupavu's hackles rose. A teen? Abandoning a pride? He bore teeth a bit.
"What, is your home not good enough? If you turn your back on your pride?"
The male flexed claws irritably. So many left his own home, he was angry...

The adol blinked...then laughed. "No, no. That's not the case at all. I'm going to go home, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. My home is a wonderful place. But it's the way of the pride, since long ago, for adolescents to go on a journey to find their adult name. To gain experience they wouldn't have otherwise gained inside the pride. Once we find our adult name, we return home." She smiled brightly. "Some even return with mates or new members to join."

"Sounds like a way to let your children die to me. We don't encourage anyone to leave." The male emerged finally, moving slowly, eying her. His claws were sheathed now and fangs covered, but he seemed wary-- guarded, as if he wasn't sure how to handle the female.
"There's none whom look like you, here."

"Only if we're not prepared." She nodded to him when he emerged, polite. "My parents both taught my siblings and I how to protect ourselves, how to survive outside the pride." She didn't lose her smile. "Mother was originally a rogue, before she joined for my father." She did, however, droop that none looked like her. A shame. That meant she hadn't found where her grandparents were.
"Might you or one of yours encountered anyone who bears similar markings to mine? One of them is mostly the orange I bear, and another is mostly black." She REALLY wanted to meet her mother's parents.

"Hardly." He frowned. "We haven't seen your markings here before." Not that he looked.... Not with how often he viciously sheltered his dead sister's final rest.
"Try a nearby pride." He sat, frowning. "We don't give up our kind readily, anyway."

Beti drooped further. "Ah. I see." She sighed. "Another dead end. I'm sorry for bothering you than." She smiled sheepishly, not letting his sour mood cross over to her. "I was hoping I might finally get a real lead after so many false ones." She shook her head a bit. "Uhm...would you mind me staying the night. Here on this side of the border, I mean. I won't enter your lands if you don't want me to." She knew better! Her mother had taught her well about being a rogue. And it was obvious the male had issues with strangers. She wondered what might have caused that...

"....You can stay on our side I suppose." Shupavu grunted. His mother would've let her in, and he wouldn't violate that, the large male moving to nose her inside.

The pale female blinked and let him nose her. "Alright. Thank you..." She smiled. "I promise I'll stay out of everyone's way, and be gone shortly after sunrise." Best to not overstay her welcome.
